- Chapter 2 - She’s Sick, and It’s Not a Mild Case…
2: She’s Sick, and It’s Not a Mild Case…
Labeled as a “split personality disorder patient,” Yu Qingjia inexplicably wanted to laugh, but she maintained a serious expression and said, “I hope President Ming can keep this matter confidential.”
Ming Yin’s face flickered with a trace of annoyance. “Mm, don’t take my earlier words to heart.”
Yu Qingjia waved it off nonchalantly, picked up the clothes scattered on the floor, and said to Ming Yin, “I’m going to get dressed,” before heading into the bathroom.
The bathroom was neat and tidy, showing no signs of use. Glancing at the heart-shaped bathtub, Yu Qingjia inwardly clicked her tongue and turned to the mirror. The reflection showed a face almost identical to her own, but with more glamorous makeup and hair styled in sexy, voluminous waves, giving her a more alluring aura than her original self.
They remembered to strip her clothes but couldn’t be bothered to remove her makeup, letting her sleep like this all night. Yu Qingjia grumbled internally and began washing her face.
When she emerged, Ming Yin, now fully dressed, was on the phone. Her silky black hair was neatly pinned up, exuding a sharp, professional air that matched her role as the head of the Ming Corporation in the novel.
Seeing Yu Qingjia, Ming Yin tilted her head and asked, “Do you mind if my assistant comes in?”
“Do as you like.” Yu Qingjia waved dismissively, and Ming Yin continued her conversation.
Spotting her phone at the foot of the bed, Yu Qingjia moved to grab it, intending to walk around Ming Yin. But she tripped over something on the floor, losing her balance. Trying to avoid Ming Yin, she stumbled, only for Ming Yin to swiftly pull her back. The momentum sent both of them tumbling onto the rose-petal-strewn bed.
At that exact moment, the suite’s door clicked open.
“President Ming, you—” Assistant Lin’s voice cut off abruptly upon seeing the two on the bed.
Though Yu Qingjia quickly propped herself up and stood, pulling Ming Yin up with her, Assistant Lin’s shock deepened when she saw Ming Yin being helped up—
President Ming was the one on the bottom!
Despite her serious expression, Assistant Lin suppressed her curious gaze and glanced at Yu Qingjia, initially wanting to see who President Ming had spent the night with. But when she recognized the face that frequently appeared in entertainment news and online forums, her step faltered.
Wasn’t this the second daughter of the Yu family, who just married that child star?!
President Ming was involved with a married woman!
President Ming, you’ve fallen!
Assistant Lin screamed internally while maintaining a professional, stoic facade.
At that moment, Pan Xing, who had gone to check the surveillance, returned. Assistant Lin’s heart clenched upon seeing her, instantly on guard. If Pan Xing tried anything against President Ming, she’d drag her boss out immediately and let the couple sort it out themselves.
But the expected scene of a wronged wife confronting a mistress didn’t happen. Instead, Pan Xing looked somewhat deflated and said, “No matter what I said, they wouldn’t let me see the surveillance.”
Surveillance?
Lin Min, young but capable enough to be the assistant to a corporate president, sensed something amiss. She looked at Ming Yin and said, “I’ll retrieve the surveillance from last night’s gala and the hotel now.”
Ming Yin quickly assigned the task to her assistant. Before leaving, she politely apologized to Pan Xing and turned to Yu Qingjia, saying, “After your checkup, regardless of the results, please send them to me.” Then she left the room first.
They couldn’t leave together, one after the other would raise suspicions, as paparazzi were likely waiting outside. So Ming Yin left first, and ten minutes later, Yu Qingjia and Pan Xing would follow.
Yu Qingjia glanced at the object that had tripped her, a black quilted handbag from a luxury brand, the one the original Yu Qingjia carried to the gala last night.
Seeing Yu Qingjia staring at the bag in silence, Pan Xing asked, “What’s wrong?”
Snapping out of it, Yu Qingjia bent down, picked up the bag, brushed off nonexistent dust, and shook her head. “Nothing.”
The hospital wouldn’t find anything. If Shen Ru had set them up, she wouldn’t leave any traceable evidence.
As expected, Yu Qingjia’s body showed no signs of drug use. Ming Yin’s team also reported that the surveillance yielded nothing. The gala footage conveniently missed the area where Yu Qingjia and Ming Yin had been, and the hotel’s cameras “happened” to be malfunctioning.
Thinking of the impending moral backlash, Yu Qingjia’s head throbbed.
But before the scandal could break, she was confronted by her furious older sister, Yu Qingyi.
Seeing her once-youthful sister now exuding maturity and poise, Yu Qingjia’s eyes held a trace of amusement. She’d expected to feel awkward around this “sister,” but there was no discomfort at all. She could even call her “sister” without hesitation, as this woman only bore a seven-point resemblance to her annoying little sister and was otherwise completely different.
Yu Qingyi was here to demand answers. Glancing at Pan Xing, she held back from throwing out the photos, and suppressing her anger, greeted Pan Xing first.
Pan Xing, seeing her sister-in-law’s expression, knew she’d heard something and quickly explained what happened, “This isn’t Xiao Yu’s fault—she was framed.”
Caught off guard, Yu Qingyi paused, trying to rein in her emotions. Her expression grew serious. “What’s going on?”
She’d initially worried this would hurt Pan Xing, but it seemed Pan Xing knew something, and there was more to the story.
Pan Xing glanced at Yu Qingjia, who spoke up, “Last night, my drink was spiked. I felt dizzy and was about to have Xiao Yue take me home, but when I woke up, I was in the hotel. I don’t remember anything that happened in between.”
Yu Qingyi’s face darkened. “No results from the checkup?”
Yu Qingjia shook her head.
Yu Qingyi gritted her teeth. She’d heard of such tactics but never imagined they’d be used on her sister. Who was targeting Xiao Jia, and in such a way?
“Can I see the photos?” Yu Qingjia asked.
Yu Qingyi handed her a stack of photos. “These were bought from Zhu Huai. He wasn’t going to sell, but Ming Yin pressured him into it.”
The photos, likely taken from a window ledge, were at an odd angle but clearly showed Yu Qingjia and Ming Yin. Their bare shoulders and intimate posture screamed that Yu Qingjia was having an affair.
Zhu Huai was a notorious paparazzo, known for breaking major stories. Celebrities both loved and hated him, loved him for ruining rivals, hated him for exposing their secrets.
He’d clearly been tipped off. If they could pry open Zhu Huai’s mouth, it would be ideal.
As Yu Qingjia pondered, Yu Qingyi frowned. “You seem different today.”
She’d noticed something off about her sister the moment she arrived but was too angry to dwell on it. Now, calming down, she saw her sister was entirely unlike her usual self.
Yu Qingjia glanced at Pan Xing, whose hands tightened on her knees. Feeling a pang of guilt, Yu Qingjia said, “I’m not Xiao Yu. I’m this body’s second personality.”
Yu Qingyi: ???
Yu Qingyi: Which bastard drugged my sister and messed up her brain?!
Seeing Yu Qingyi’s “are you still half-asleep” expression, Yu Qingjia sighed helplessly. “I’m not lying. Xiao Yu’s gone, and I don’t know where she is.”
Yu Qingyi looked at Pan Xing, who bit her lip and looked away. Yu Qingyi’s heart sank, she couldn’t believe her sister had a split personality.
Still skeptical, Yu Qingyi said, “We’re getting a doctor to check your mental state right now.”
But after a series of tests, the doctor confirmed Yu Qingjia was mentally sound, with no issues.
Relieved, Yu Qingyi’s expression shifted the moment the doctor left. She grabbed Yu Qingjia’s ear, fuming, “Is this something to joke about?”
Yu Qingjia, who’d never had her ear twisted growing up, winced in pain. “Let go, let go! I’m really the second personality!”
Yu Qingyi didn’t buy it. The tests showed nothing, yet she was still lying. “You’re married! When will you grow up and stop fooling around?”
Yu Qingjia wanted to explain but decided against it, her sister was too angry to listen.
Surprisingly, Pan Xing spoke up. “I believe her.”
Yu Qingyi: ???
Yu Qingjia: !
Pan Xing gave Yu Qingyi a faint smile, her gaze resolute. “She’s really not the old Xiao Yu.” The way she looked at her was completely different, no tender affection, just the calm scrutiny and pity one might show a stranger.
Whether it was a second personality or not, she wasn’t the Xiao Yu she loved.
Yu Qingyi was stunned. “Xiao Pan, you—”
Pan Xing turned to Yu Qingjia, her clear eyes holding a resilient strength. “Let’s get a divorce.”
“!” Yu Qingyi’s shock turned to fury, directed at Yu Qingjia. “You lied just to get a divorce?”
Yu Qingjia didn’t explain to Yu Qingyi. She couldn’t pretend to refuse, she genuinely wanted Pan Xing to agree to the divorce. Still, hearing those words stirred guilt in her. If she hadn’t transmigrated, if Shen Ru hadn’t interfered, perhaps Pan Xing and Xiao Yu could have been a loving couple.
“I’m sorry. Thank you.”
Pan Xing’s lips tightened, her expression bitter. “You’re really not like Xiao Yu.” Even when she mentioned divorce, Yu Qingjia’s eyes showed only relief and a touch of guilt. How had things changed so drastically in a single day?
It was all because of whoever framed Xiao Yu!
Seeing the two had made up their minds, Yu Qingyi calmed down, though her expression was weary. “Are you sure about this?”
Both nodded, their faces free of resentment or anger.
Yu Qingyi sighed heavily. “Fine. I’ll call Lawyer Liu.”
To compensate Pan Xing, Yu Qingjia left the marriage with nothing, even giving Pan Xing some of her assets. Pan Xing accepted everything without comment.
That afternoon at 4 p.m., top actress Yu Qingjia and child star Pan Xing announced their divorce on Weibo, sending the platform into a frenzy.
Shen Ru, who had been preparing to leak the scandal, squinted at the post. After a moment’s thought, she changed her tune and told her assistant, “…Hold off on releasing it.”
Meanwhile, Ming Yin was listening to Assistant Lin’s report:
“Zhu Huai got a call from Yang Yi to go to the Aigeli Hotel. Yang Yi was acting on orders from President Shen’s assistant, Zuo Shu. Also…”
Assistant Lin paused abruptly. Ming Yin looked up, her expression calm. “What?”
Assistant Lin’s face showed a hint of hesitation. “Miss Yu and Miss Pan announced their divorce.”
President Ming’s charm was unmatched. After one night with her, Yu Qingjia went home and divorced Pan Xing—less than three months after their marriage!
Assistant Lin’s gaze toward her boss turned subtle.
Ming Yin, however, recalled the morning’s conversation.
It seemed Yu Qingjia truly had a split personality disorder, and it wasn’t a mild case.
