3: Yu Qingyi: You Want to Be a Director…
“This is too sudden, but I still wish Xiao Yu and Xiao Xingxing all the best!”
“Protecting the world’s best Xiao Yu! Xiao Yu will keep getting better /love”
“Don’t be sad, Xiao Yu! Your fans will always be with you /love”
“Though I don’t know what happened, I hope Xiao Yu and Pan Xingxing find their own happiness /roses”
Yu Qingjia’s fans didn’t pry into the reasons for the divorce, instead offering blessings and comfort, hoping their idol could quickly move past the shadow of the breakup.
Since both Yu Qingjia and Pan Xing’s Weibo posts conveyed an amicable parting, it didn’t spark much controversy. Yu Qingjia even appeared in her fan group, stating that the divorce was a carefully considered decision, praising Pan Xing as a good wife and urging fans not to harbor resentment towards her. Touched, her fans were even more convinced that Xiao Yu was not only beautiful but kind-hearted, marveling at what an incredible idol they supported.
Netizens, however, were relentless in digging for gossip:
“What’s going on? Flash marriage, flash divorce? Anyone got the tea?”
“This has to be the fastest marriage and divorce ever. Are they treating marriage like a game?”
“My friend in the industry says YQJ cheated and got caught by PX. YQJ left the marriage with nothing /photo”
“Is this for real? Their vlogs were so sweet before. How long has it even been? /crying”
“They’re both actors, of course it’s sweet. YQJ’s acting skills are all in her personal life, her dramas aren’t even that good /eating popcorn”
Since several sources claimed the divorce stemmed from Yu Qingjia’s infidelity and being caught red-handed, and her studio issued no response, many netizens remained skeptical.
Yu Qingjia didn’t care much about the rumors, as she now had to face “Xiao Yu’s” parents.
Learning of their youngest daughter’s divorce online, the Yu couple rushed over immediately.
“Why the sudden divorce? Weren’t things fine before?” Mrs. Yu looked at her daughter and Pan Xing in confusion. But the calm, amicable atmosphere between them made her realize the decision was final.
Seeing the familiar, elegant woman, Yu Qingjia’s demeanor softened with natural affection. She stuck to her “second personality” explanation.
Mr. Yu glared at her. “Nonsense! Your sister said you’re perfectly fine. Be honest, did you do something to betray Xiao Pan?”
His temper was exactly like her real father’s, making Yu Qingjia feel a sense of closeness. It was like returning home to the smell of home-cooked meals after starring in an absurd play, the surreal feeling in her heart finally began to fade.
Noticing Yu Qingjia’s warm, affectionate gaze toward her parents, Pan Xing spoke up. “She didn’t betray me. She… really has changed a lot. I barely recognize her.”
She knew Xiao Yu’s acting abilities well. From the moment they met at the hotel, Yu Qingjia had transformed completely—her gaze, thought process, and behavior were so different that, if not for her familiar face and the small red mole behind her ear, Pan Xing might have thought someone was impersonating her.
Hearing this, the Yu couple realized the gravity of the situation. They observed their daughter closely, and soon Mrs. Yu hugged Yu Qingjia, tears streaming down her face. “How did Xiao Yu get this illness? How can we cure it?”
Mr. Yu’s face tightened. “What’s wrong with your sister? She said you were fine. That doctor must have messed up. How did we never notice you had a split personality before?”
Yu Qingjia: …
Even though she’d claimed it herself, hearing her parents conclude she had a mental illness felt oddly surreal.
“I don’t feel the presence of anyone else,” Yu Qingjia said.
Mr. Yu glared at her disapprovingly. “Before this, Xiao Yu didn’t know you existed either.”
Unable to argue, Yu Qingjia was dragged by her parents to see City A’s top psychiatrist. After a full battery of tests and medical evaluations, the doctor concluded she couldn’t be diagnosed with a split personality disorder and was mentally sound.
This baffled the Yu couple. They wanted their daughter to be healthy, but the reality was that Yu Qingjia had clearly become a different person, and the second personality seemed real.
Has Xiao Yu been overtaken by this second personality?
At this thought, Mr. Yu’s gaze toward Yu Qingjia aged visibly. His daughter had been ill, and as her father, he hadn’t even noticed.
Seeing her parents’ low spirits, Yu Qingjia gently comforted them, though her mind couldn’t help drifting to her life in the modern world.
As she was lost in thought, Mrs. Yu, choking back sobs, asked, “What’s your name?”
Yu Qingjia blinked, looking around and seeing no one else. Realizing her mother was staring at her with teary eyes, she remembered that each personality might have its own name. “Of course it’s Yu Qingjia.”
What, was she supposed to make up a new name for herself?
This surprised the couple. They’d expected the second personality to have a distinct name to differentiate itself from the primary one. Did this mean the second personality didn’t care about standing out?
“Then I’ll call you Xiao Jia.” Mrs. Yu said, wiping her tears. “Since you’re divorcing Xiao Pan, so be it. Don’t live on your own, move back home. I’m not comfortable with you living outside.”
This reminded Yu Qingjia of the housing situation. Xiao Yu and Pan Xing had been living in their marital home, which would go to Pan Xing after the divorce, meaning Yu Qingjia had to move out. As for where—
“Your mom’s right. Move back home. We’ll feel better that way,” Mr. Yu declared firmly.
Yu Qingjia’s head ached. How had she forgotten? If anything was wrong with her, her parents would never let her live alone. Protesting was futile, she had no valid reason to move out.
Fine, she’d stay for now and find a chance to move out later.
After a few days at the Yu family villa, Yu Qingjia unexpectedly received a message from her sister, asking her to come to Xinghui Media.
Xinghui Media was a subsidiary founded by Yu Qingyi, and Yu Qingjia was signed to it, partly to support her sister’s work.
When Yu Qingjia arrived at Yu Qingyi’s office, she was surprised to find a familiar figure there besides her sister.
The person wore a tailored light-colored suit that accentuated her tall, graceful figure, exuding an air of refined elegance from head to toe, with a hint of undeniable sharpness. It was Ming Yin.
Ming Yin’s dark eyes briefly scanned Yu Qingjia’s face, her pale pink lips curving into a perfectly measured smile, neither overly warm nor cold—as she nodded slightly. “Miss Yu.”
Seeing Ming Yin, Yu Qingjia realized her sister had likely called her to discuss the findings about that night.
When she heard it was Shen Ru, the current head of the Shen family, Yu Qingjia raised an eyebrow in surprise.
As expected of the villainous big shot who rivaled the female lead, Ming Yin had actually uncovered the truth.
“She likely targeted me and used this to warn President Xiao Yu, inadvertently dragging Miss Yu into it.” Ming Yin said, sounding apologetic but with no trace of remorse in her tone.
Yu Qingjia didn’t mind. The first part was correct, but the second was off. No one would guess Shen Ru’s real motive was to get Pan Xing, as the two had no apparent connection.
Yu Qingyi’s face darkened. “I didn’t expect Shen Ru to resort to such underhanded tactics.”
Yu Qingjia nodded in agreement. Underhanded, indeed. Even if they traced it back to Shen Ru, they were powerless against her.
Ming Yin stayed silent, her gaze subtly lingering on Yu Qingjia. Noticing, Yu Qingjia openly asked, “Is something wrong with me?”
“Miss Yu doesn’t seem to care much about this.” Ming Yin said, her eyes probing.
Yu Qingjia paused, understanding her meaning. As a victim caught up in this scheme, forced to divorce her newlywed wife, she should be furious at the mastermind. Why was she so calm?
“To be honest, if it weren’t for Shen Ru, I wouldn’t have gained control.” Yu Qingjia said deliberately.
Yu Qingyi’s sharp gaze shot toward her. “Don’t worry, President Ming promised not to say anything, right?” she said, smiling at Ming Yin.
Yu Qingyi immediately looked at Ming Yin, who remained composed. “Thank you for your trust, Miss Yu.”
Yu Qingyi vaguely sensed something between the two but decided not to dig deeper. Ming Yin stood up. “I have other matters to attend to, so I won’t disturb President Yu further.”
Yu Qingyi saw her out, while Yu Qingjia watched Ming Yin leave with a smile.
Once the office door closed, Yu Qingyi looked at Yu Qingjia suspiciously. “Do you know President Ming well?”
“If being set up to end up in the same bed counts as knowing someone.” Yu Qingjia replied casually. Her gaze swept over the documents on the desk, catching the word “director.” Her interest piqued. “Is the company hiring directors?”
“Yes,” Yu Qingyi didn’t hide it. “Huayue poached several of our directors. We’re planning to collaborate with Shouying to train new talent. These are candidates recommended by the school.”
Xinghui had relied on directors from the parent company, but with three veteran directors poached by Huayue, they urgently needed capable directors to keep the company afloat. Training new directors, however, was costly, time-consuming, and risky.
Yu Qingjia’s mind sparked with an idea. Over the past few days at the villa, she’d watched films and read related books. This world’s film industry was similar to her modern world’s, and with her skills, she could make a mark. Acting wasn’t out of the question, but her true passion was directing.
This was the perfect opportunity.
Her gaze toward Yu Qingyi grew fervent, making her sister uneasy. “What’s with that look?”
“Sister, I want to transition to directing. Why not train me too?” Yu Qingjia’s eyes burned with enthusiasm.
“What? You want to be a director?”
For the first time, Yu Qingyi understood how her parents felt. How had her perfectly fine sister suddenly gone mad?
