6: #YuQingjiaPanXingRekindledRomance…
Yu Qingjia’s agent, Chen Ruo, was stunned for half a day when she learned Yu Qingjia wanted to transition into directing. It wasn’t until Yu Qingjia called, asking her to contact the café owner to arrange borrowing the venue for shooting, that Chen Ruo realized she was serious.
Resigned, Chen Ruo secured a time slot with the owner. Then Yu Qingjia informed her she planned to go to the film city to find extras.
Chen Ruo said, “No need to go to the film city. Xinghui just signed a few artists. If you need extras, you can use them directly.”
After a brief hesitation, Yu Qingjia agreed and listed her requirements. Seeing her seriousness, Chen Ruo dutifully selected eleven actors for her.
Initially, the actors were excited to work as extras for Yu Qingjia’s new project. Though Yu Qingjia wasn’t known for her acting skills, she was a major star. Appearing in her project could catch a director’s eye or at least get them some screen time with audiences.
However—
Actor A: “Sister Chen, which director is Xiao Yu working with this time?”
Chen Ruo: “Director Yu.”
Actor B: “Director Yu? Which Director Yu?”
Chen Ruo glanced at the two young actresses. “Director Yu Qingjia.”
Actor A, Actor B: ???
So this “project” wasn’t what they thought!
The two exchanged looks. As expected of the boss’ sister and the chairman of Tianyue’s daughter, she was truly capricious.
Besides casting Pan Xing as the female lead, Yu Qingjia chose Meng Zhou, a newly debuted Xinghui artist, as the male lead. The filming crew was also borrowed from Xinghui.
Yu Qingyi initially opposed the idea, but unable to resist Yu Qingjia’s pleas and pressure from their father, she relented and let Yu Qingjia borrow the crew.
The so-called crew was small, as Yu Qingjia only intended to shoot a short film to prove her abilities to Yu Qingyi, not to do anything grand with it.
On the day of shooting, the weather was clear and cloudless.
Yu Qingjia led her “crew” to the café. Upon arrival, Chen Ruo was sipping coffee and chatting with the staff.
Yu Qingjia first confirmed the shooting areas and camera positions, assigning tasks to the crew while explaining the general roles to the extras.
The extras listened intently, surprised by her professional demeanor. Their initial dismissiveness faded, and they paid close attention to her instructions.
Originally, Yu Qingjia planned to have actors play the café staff, but since they weren’t familiar with the operations, she asked a staff member if she’d be willing to appear in a few shots, promising payment after filming.
The staff member, there to handle the handover for the owner, was excited but hesitant. “Can I do it?”
Yu Qingjia raised an eyebrow. “Why not? Anyone can be a great actor. I’ll guide you.”
The staff member wavered, skeptical of Yu Qingjia’s acting skills and even more so of her teaching others to act. But the allure of being on camera was too strong, and she agreed.
Soon, Meng Zhou arrived. Yu Qingjia had already sent him the script and briefly went over his role and the day’s shooting plan.
Though Meng Zhou had never done films, he’d acted in two TV dramas. Listening to Yu Qingjia’s detailed explanations, he was inwardly dismissive. As a top actress who’d starred in several hit dramas, if she couldn’t even manage this, she had no business making a short film.
Yu Qingjia didn’t care about his skepticism. As long as the actors performed well, it was fine. Even if Meng Zhou doubted her directing skills, he wouldn’t dare openly oppose her—she was the sister of Xinghui’s president, after all.
The crew’s veteran members, however, were impressed. They’d initially thought this was a spoiled princess playing around, expecting them to scramble while she took the title of director in name only. But Yu Qingjia was surprisingly skilled.
When the cinematographer adjusted the camera, Yu Qingjia pointed out it was positioned incorrectly and needed to move right. The cinematographer found it amusing, she hadn’t even looked through the lens yet, and she was already making bold claims. About to argue, he saw Yu Qingjia adjust the camera herself, altering the frame’s depth.
Xinghui’s crew were all professionals, and the cinematographer immediately recognized the difference between the two setups. Stunned, he let go of his initial disdain.
Even if it was a fluke, Yu Qingjia’s skill was remarkable.
Thanks to her father’s entertainment company, Yu Qingjia had been fascinated by filmmaking since childhood, often visiting sets he’d invested in. She’d watch the lighting technician adjust lights, observe the cinematographer, or follow the director to learn their craft. Unlike academically trained directors, Yu Qingjia was like someone who’d risen from the ground up, deeply knowledgeable about every technical aspect.
Even the lighting technician couldn’t escape her instructions. Yu Qingjia told him exactly how to adjust, sparing him the effort, and he followed her lead obediently.
The crew adopted a professional attitude, which inspired the extras to take the work more seriously.
Pan Xing arrived ten minutes late, slightly sweaty from rushing over. “Sorry, I’m late. There was a small issue with my car.”
“You’re here now, that’s what matters.” Yu Qingjia said nonchalantly, calling the makeup artist to prepare Pan Xing.
Pan Xing’s arrival subtly shifted the café’s atmosphere.
As the only couple to flash-marry and flash-divorce, their ability to work together harmoniously now sparked gossip among onlookers.
Seeing the orderly set, Pan Xing felt unexpectedly nervous, like her first time filming a TV drama—excited yet anxious about meeting the director’s expectations. But glancing at Yu Qingjia, who was calmly directing the staff, she felt she was overthinking.
“Is everyone clear on the process? Let’s do the first scene.” Yu Qingjia stepped behind the camera. “Places, everyone. Action!”
…
“Mommy, I’ve been good lately and haven’t been picky with food. Can I have a strawberry cake?” Zhizhi hugged Ming Yin’s leg, looking obedient. Ming Yin was about to ask Assistant Lin to take her to buy one when she recalled Zhizhi’s encounter with Yu Qingjia. Setting aside her work, she decided to take Zhizhi herself.
As Ming Yin stood, Assistant Lin entered the office.
“President Ming—” Lin began to report, then saw Ming Yin leading Zhizhi, dressed in a pink bunny outfit, toward the door. “Where are you going?”
Seeing the documents in Assistant Lin’s hand, Ming Yin said, “Put them on my desk. I’ll review them later.”
Zhizhi, meanwhile, bounced excitedly. “Mommy’s taking me to eat strawberry cake!”
Assistant Lin’s gaze paused. “That shop is closed today.”
Ming Yin stopped, her calm gaze settling on Assistant Lin. Assistant Lin quickly explained, “Miss Yu rented the shop for filming.”
Hearing the familiar name, Zhizhi’s eyes lit up. She tugged Ming Yin’s hand eagerly. “Mommy, I want to see Xiao Yu!”
“Filming?” Ming Yin’s brows furrowed slightly. She hadn’t heard about Yu Qingjia working nearby.
Assistant Lin, who’d been keeping tabs on Yu Qingjia since noticing her interest in Ming Yin, had all the details. She was ready to help Ming Yin avoid or “coincidentally” meet Miss Yu if needed.
Assistant Lin said, “Yes, Miss Yu seems interested in transitioning to directing, but President Yu doesn’t approve. She’s shooting a short film to prove her ability.”
“Directing?”
Ming Yin pondered the implications, glancing at Zhizhi’s expectant face. After a moment, she asked, “Where else has good strawberry cake?”
Assistant Lin blinked, realizing Ming Yin didn’t want Zhizhi meeting Yu Qingjia. “There’s a Red Encounter on Siting Street. Their strawberry cake is famous.”
“Alright, we’ll go there.” Ming Yin said.
Hearing their conversation, Zhizhi realized she wouldn’t see Xiao Yu and grew anxious. “Mommy, I want to see Xiao Yu!”
Ming Yin, unruffled, remained gentle. She bent down, kissed Zhizhi’s cheek, and said, “She’s working. We can’t disturb her. Don’t you want strawberry cake? Her shop doesn’t have any today.”
Zhizhi’s little brows knitted in distress. Ming Yin waited patiently for her response. After a long pause, Zhizhi said, “Can we see Xiao Yu after eating strawberry cake?”
Ming Yin hadn’t expected Zhizhi to be so attached to Yu Qingjia, but she quickly composed herself. “She’s working. We can’t interrupt people’s work, remember?”
Zhizhi persisted, “I won’t disturb her. She likes strawberry cake too. I want to bring her some.”
Ming Yin wanted to refuse, but seeing Zhizhi’s hopeful eyes, she couldn’t bear to say no. “Alright, but we can’t disturb her. We’ll give her the cake and leave.”
“Mm!” Zhizhi nodded vigorously, her lips curving into a sweet smile.
…
Yu Qingjia reviewed the final scene and nodded with satisfaction. “Great job, everyone. I’m treating you all to dinner!”
The exhausted “crew” cheered. After a day of working together, they were thoroughly impressed by Yu Qingjia. The most shocked were Pan Xing and Chen Ruo.
As Yu Qingjia’s agent, Chen Ruo knew her client’s abilities and temperament well. Today completely reshaped her view of Yu Qingjia. Her demeanor was indistinguishable from seasoned directors, and even the notoriously difficult lighting technician followed her instructions—not out of financial obligation, but because he was genuinely convinced by her technical expertise.
The phrase “Yu Qingjia’s technical skills” felt surreal to Chen Ruo. Who would believe Yu Qingjia was skilled in filmmaking—and not just skilled, but an expert?
Pan Xing was even more stunned. She’d agreed to the collaboration to signal to the public that they were on good terms post-divorce. But Yu Qingjia’s performance exceeded all expectations.
Yu Qingjia might actually become an outstanding film director.
This thought solidified Pan Xing’s belief in the second personality explanation. She could now treat Yu Qingjia as a completely different person—a stranger sharing the same name and face as her former love, Xiao Yu.
The shoot went smoother than Yu Qingjia had anticipated. Once she edited the short film and showed it to her parents and Yu Qingyi, she was confident they’d approve her transition to directing.
But at that moment, a topic was climbing the hot search list online—
