- Episode 90 - The Letter
Once again, time rewinds.
Urgore had begun his battle against the two members of the Hoshiros Marquis family.
“David, maximize your magic detection! If you’re even a little late, you’ll die!”
“Yes!”
Urgore’s signature move, *Hollow Shadow*, was a spell that cloaked him in black mist and made him vanish in an instant.
It thinned his magic presence to the limit, making it a perfect assassination technique.
Even for the Hoshiros family, who had experienced countless battles with him and knew his tricks, defending against a surprise attack was nearly impossible.
The two of them tried to keep their distance by using arc-shaped magic beams to keep Urgore at bay, but eventually, the balance broke.
“Ugh!”
Urgore forcefully broke through with a magic barrier and closed the distance, swinging his long-bladed sword to sever Galtano’s right arm.
“I’ll take over!”
David immediately stepped in and counterattacked Urgore.
Urgore blocked the strike with his sword.
If it were a one-on-one fight, he could have overpowered them, but with two opponents, it was turning into a battle of endurance.
Seeing Galtano use healing magic to regenerate his arm, Urgore clicked his tongue.
“As persistent as ever. But I will end you here.”
Urgore drew magic from the door behind him.
His arm glowed with a bluish-white light, like pulsing veins, extending down to his sword.
Then, cloaking himself in *Hollow Shadow*, he disappeared and lunged at them.
“That’s… the Light of Exorcism! Switch, David!”
“Father?”
Galtano stepped forward, signaling David to fall back.
Against the overwhelming physical enhancement of an Exorcist Mage, David wouldn’t stand a chance.
Urgore smirked as he saw the fool stepping forward.
“The bl00d of the great sinners… claims another.”
Urgore brought his sword down, charged with menacing magic.
Galtano blocked it with his star artifact.
The impact sent a jolt through his entire body, and he felt his bones creak under the sheer force.
The blade didn’t stop and slid from his shoulder toward his heart.
“Gaaaah! Now… do it, David!”
Just before the sword reached his heart, Galtano shouted.
David hurled a small, square box at him.
The box stopped in midair, and several black tendrils shot out, wrapping around Urgore.
“Huh? What is this?”
“…Haha! It activated successfully. This is the end for you, Urgore. Disappear into the subspace!”
Galtano grinned triumphantly, bl00d dripping from his mouth.
“I see… then at least one of you is coming with me.”
“What?”
Urgore increased his magic output.
He resisted the pull of the black tendrils and swung his sword down.
“Damn it! How does he still have this much strength?! Gaaaah! Stop it!”
“Give my regards to Dalmenus in the afterlife, Hoshiros head.”
Urgore sliced Galtano’s body in two.
His upper half slid off and collapsed onto the ground with a sickening splatter.
—One down.
“You… how dare you kill my father!”
David fired multiple arc-shaped magic beams at Urgore.
It was the Hoshiros family’s secret technique, *Aim Arrow*—a powerful spell specializing in speed, precision, and rapid-fire attacks.
(I can’t dodge this… then…!)
Urgore made a desperate charge.
His instincts told him that those black tendrils were extremely dangerous.
(I need to eliminate him before I’m pulled in.)
Urgore had a rare talent for intuition and the reckless boldness to act on it.
And this time, it paid off.
“Monster…!”
Covered in bl00d, Urgore closed the distance and swung a deadly strike at David.
David braced for death.
But—
(Damn it!)
The attack slightly missed its mark, leaving a deep gash but not a fatal wound.
Urgore was finally pulled in by the black tendrils—sealed inside that tiny box.
“Hah… hah… I did it! Urgore is dead!”
David’s face broke into a triumphant grin.
The nightmare that had tormented the Hoshiros for decades was finally over.
The price was his father’s life, but that was the fate of a noble who lived by the sword.
“Haha… hahaha! That’s right, from now on, I will be the Marquis of Hoshiros! Urgore is gone! This is the beginning of my era—!”
Suddenly, a thunderous roar filled the air.
A massive bolt of lightning struck David.
The scent of burnt flesh spread through the battlefield as he collapsed.
“Wh… What just… happened?”
He looked up and saw a young girl in men’s clothing standing before him.
“I’m sorry… but you were an enemy of my grandfather.”
Her cold eyes stared at him as she raised her sword.
David, still weakened from Urgore’s attack and the lightning strike, couldn’t move.
“W-Wait! No! Stop! Please—!”
The girl, Roa, swung the star artifact once owned by the Stellar-class warrior—decapitating David.
◇◇◇◇
The setting sun cast long shadows on the ground.
Roa’s story left us in shock.
“I see… You did well, Roa.”
“Ehehe.”
I patted Roa’s head.
Even though David had been injured, the fact that Loa managed to take down the next head of the Hoshiros family was impressive.
The beautiful girl, Roa, had now proven herself as a true warrior.
“So, the head and the heir of Hoshiros are both dead… and my grandfather is trapped inside that *Tamakushige* thing?”
“Yes…”
It was a small box, barely ten centimeters on each side.
Physically, it made no sense.
But in this world of magic, anything was possible.
I had once studied space magic myself, but I had never managed to make it work.
“This is likely an ancient artifact from one of the great empires,” said Luna, the princess who had earlier had her thigh exposed.
She was now wrapped in a blanket.
“An ancient artifact?”
“Yes. Over 1,200 years ago, a great empire existed. Some of their high-tech magical relics have survived to this day. We call them *ancient artifacts*.”
“I see.”
“The ones discovered so far are powerful enough to disrupt the balance of nations, so they are strictly controlled. The *Tamakushige* is said to trap people in subspace.”
Such a dangerous thing exists… If our enemies have more like it, we need to be careful.
“Is there a way to release my grandfather from *Tamakushige*?”
“I’m sorry, I don’t know…”
I tried pouring magic into the box.
But nothing happened.
“No good… There must be some condition.”
“Is grandfather safe…?”
“I don’t know, but we have to believe he is.”
Now, what should we do next?
My father was still unconscious, and we couldn’t stay in enemy territory forever.
“Geraldo, can I assume that the final decision-making authority of this envoy now falls to me?”
“Yes. May I make a suggestion?”
“…What is it?”
I was slightly wary of Geraldo’s proposal.
Hopefully, he wasn’t about to suggest slaughtering Luna and Nicholas.
“Shalka, we are deep in enemy territory. There could be more attacks. We should abandon the ceasefire talks and retreat immediately.”
“Hmm.”
At least it wasn’t something reckless.
Geraldo’s logic was sound.
We couldn’t stay here forever.
Now that I was in charge, I couldn’t make careless decisions.
After some thought, I made my choice.
“…Luna, I’m sorry, but the ceasefire negotiations end here.”
