I Am Her Secret Beauty and Strong Alpha (GL) - Chapter 23
Mu Xi locked the door of the housekeeper’s room and sat on the small sofa across from the bed, staring into space again.
So… for the next five or six days, was she just going to stay here doing nothing?
Actually, her room had everything—there was even a fully equipped mini kitchen. Mu Xi could do everything she needed for daily life right here.
Although the marking was already done, her heat period still had some lingering effects. Mu Xi gave herself a regular suppressant injection and curled up on the sofa scrolling through her phone.
Soon, she started to feel bored and uninterested.
People who are used to being busy can’t sit still, especially someone like Mu Xi, who usually worked herself to the bone without time for fun.
Now that she had time for leisure, she couldn’t figure out how to pass the time.
Might as well… go to a construction site and move some bricks.
She laughed at herself for the thought, even though she knew it was impossible.
Did she not have any hobbies before becoming a housekeeper?
From the moment she arrived in this world, she had been attending Household Management University. As a physically strong alpha, she used to spend her free time hiking, cycling with friends, and even went through a phase of being obsessed with off-road adventures.
Of course, none of those outdoor activities could be done in the housekeeper’s room.
But then Mu Xi remembered something else.
If she hadn’t tried to recall it on purpose, she might’ve completely forgotten that she used to really enjoy art appreciation.
Not the serious kind, but the random kind—just opening a painting, preferably impressionist or abstract, and wildly guessing the meaning behind it using her imagination.
She wasn’t sure how she developed such a quirky hobby, but it was perfect for indoor entertainment. So she started browsing obscure artworks online.
It was kind of silly and vulgar, she admitted. Someone like Nan Xi, who came from a refined background, would probably look down on it.
But Mu Xi genuinely found joy in this. It brought her a simple kind of warmth and happiness. The only thing missing was someone to enjoy it with her.
So she kept doing it, laughing at her own strange ideas.
There was food and ingredients in the fridge, and she’d cook when hungry. There was even a treadmill, thoughtfully provided for alpha housekeepers isolating during their heat, so Mu Xi could keep up her exercise routine.
Just like that, three days passed.
When she got a call from Nan Nan, she was lying on the bed laughing at how the character in The Scream looked like a potato.
“Hello? Good afternoon, Second Young Master. Is there anything you need?” she answered automatically, switching back into housekeeper mode without thinking.
“Mu Housekeeper! I’m so sorry, but could you please bring me a change of clothes to the office? Something happened to mine…”
“!”
Mu Xi jumped up from the bed, ran upstairs to Nan Nan’s room, packed a full outfit, then ran downstairs to grab the car keys and rushed out.
The house staff stared in shock. One tried to call her, “Mu Housekeeper, aren’t you—”
“I’ll explain later,” she shouted, already out the door.
Wasn’t she supposed to be on leave for her heat? Back to work already? She really was like a superwoman.
“Wow, she’s even wearing her uniform during her break,” someone said.
Everyone nodded in agreement.
Nan Nan had bad luck again—an employee spilled coffee all over him while handing over documents. He had a very important meeting in 30 minutes.
He didn’t dare ask his assistant to buy new clothes; the only one he trusted was Mu Xi.
She had always solved every problem for him, never making mistakes.
And she didn’t fail this time either—she showed up ten minutes before the meeting with a full business outfit, even down to matching shoes.
After changing in the break room, Nan Nan smiled at the mirror.
“You really are the best, Mu Housekeeper. If I sent my assistant, who knows what disaster they’d bring?”
Mu Xi calmly said, “You flatter me. I’m just doing my duty.”
“I was just thinking it’s been a while since I’ve bothered you,” Nan Nan said while adjusting his tie. Then he paused and looked at Mu Xi with realization.
Mu Xi, no longer distracted by the task, suddenly remembered something.
Right. She was on leave for her heat period.
Her face froze like a cat caught off guard.
“Wait a second… Mu Housekeeper, aren’t you supposed to be on leave?”
Nan Nan was confused. “I forgot, but you too? Isn’t your heat hard to deal with?”
Mu Xi raised her hand and dropped it. “Um…”
How did she forget? Was she really trained like a police dog by Nan Zhiya—responding to orders no matter what, even if it meant jumping off a cliff?
She was frustrated. She had unlocked the room herself, driven here by herself.
All the other family members remembered she was on break. Only the clueless Nan Nan called her, and somehow she reacted even more cluelessly.
Now what?
She could only hope Nan Nan, as a beta, didn’t know much about alpha biology—maybe she could fool him.
“You don’t look too uncomfortable,” Nan Nan said, squinting at her. “Wait—I get it, you must’ve already bonded with an omega!”
Mu Xi: “?!”
Already feeling guilty, she wished she could grab a vase and knock Nan Nan out.
She stubbornly denied it. “N-no, it just ended early this time.”
“No need to hide it,” Nan Nan said kindly. “There are lots of omegas in the house. If you found someone you like, that’s great!”
Mu Xi’s mouth opened, then closed tight.
She let him believe whatever he wanted, as long as it didn’t involve Nan Xi.
Nan Nan got even more curious. “So who is it? Xiao Jiang? Annie? Xiao Ji? I never would’ve guessed…”
The names of those staff members flashed through Mu Xi’s mind.
She couldn’t throw anyone under the bus.
She took a deep breath and blushed slightly. “Second Young Master, none of them. But please stop asking—I won’t say.”
Nan Nan laughed and walked toward the door. “So loyal! Alright, alright, I won’t ask. But if you two really get married, we’ll give you a big red envelope!”
Mu Xi took another breath. “Thank you, Second Young Master.”
He had to rush to his meeting and left quickly.
Mu Xi was left alone in his office.
As soon as the door shut, she began pacing frantically.
But no matter how long she paced, she still couldn’t come up with a solution.
Her brain was still rebooting—everything felt blank.
She needed help—someone smart.
After thinking it through, she decided she had to tell Nan Xi about this.
They had already slept together, so this should be handled together.
She messaged her:
“Miss, I went out. I’m in Second Young Master’s office.”
Twenty minutes later, Nan Xi replied with a plain:
“?”
Then her call came in.
Nan Xi sounded a bit out of breath when the call connected. Mu Xi guessed she had either rushed out of the lab or was so angry she couldn’t breathe.
Mu Xi’s voice was tiny. “Sorry, Miss…”
“What happened?” Nan Xi’s tone was cold.
“I… I answered Second Young Master’s call and ran out on instinct,” she said softly. Then quickly reassured her, “But don’t worry. He thinks I got through my heat by bonding with some staff omega.”
Nan Xi’s voice turned icier. “Which staff omega?”
“Ah.”
Mu Xi froze, not getting her meaning at first. She quickly apologized. “Sorry, Miss.”
“I’m asking, if they keep pushing you to say who it was—who would you name?”
Who would she name…
None of them. She couldn’t.
“No one. I won’t name anyone.” Mu Xi looked up helplessly. “If they really force me, I’d rather resign than drag someone else into this.”
This time, Nan Xi paused. Her voice was even colder: “Who said anything about resigning? You want to quit?”
“…If they have to know, you can say it was me,” Nan Xi said lightly. “They won’t make things too hard for you.”
“W-what?” Mu Xi’s hand slipped—almost dropping her phone.
“Of course, you’ll get transferred somewhere else. We won’t see each other again.”
Nan Xi added with a smile, “So… it’s better if you don’t say it was me. Just be firm with your answers.”
“……”
Mu Xi didn’t know what to say.
Nan Xi laughed softly. “Don’t worry. That’s just the worst-case scenario. They probably won’t ask anyway. Your personal life isn’t something they care about.”
“As long as you report to me, that’s enough.”
