I Am Her Secret Beauty and Strong Alpha (GL) - Chapter 4
Nan Xi couldn’t remember how she got back to her room from the living room the night before.
It seemed Mu Xi had escorted her all the way to her door, constantly coaxing her, telling her not to be too sad and to rest early. Coaxed into a daze, she entered the room with a mix of pain and happiness, collapsing onto the bed to cry without even unpacking her luggage.
Even now, Nan Xi felt a bittersweet torment, like she was on the verge of madness.
Of course, she was happy. Mu Xi, who had disappeared for five years, had reappeared completely unharmed. Just standing there in front of her, doing nothing, Nan Xi felt her heart melting into a puddle. The slap she gave Mu Xi was also a punishment for herself.
But Mu Xi didn’t remember her at all. Nan Xi knew her well; all her reactions and actions showed no trace of deception. She had truly forgotten her completely.
A suit and trousers, a Bluetooth earpiece always at the ready, a professional polite smile. Mu Xi was now truly a housekeeper.
What had Mu Xi gone through in these five years? Why had she disappeared five years ago?
Had she willingly chosen to forget her?
Nan Xi rolled over on the soft bed, facing the ceiling and the crystal lamp, letting tears stream down her temples to her earlobes.
She replayed everything from her reunion with Mu Xi that day.
After the initial surprise came a heavy wave of anger and grievance… discovering that Mu Xi didn’t remember her, the hatred that surged in her heart almost drowned Nan Xi.
Her emotions shifted again when Mu Xi insisted on taking care of her despite Nan Xi’s words about firing her.
Nan Xi could feel the instant softening in her heart at that moment. She was so familiar with Mu Xi’s way of doing things, managing and caring for her meticulously, with her health being the top priority.
Back in university, because Nan Xi was a particularly delicate omega, Mu Xi had put a lot of effort into looking after her.
Every day, she would check how many layers Nan Xi was wearing, help her carry anything heavy or awkward; before going to crowded places, she would prepare a mask and protect her from being squeezed or bumped… and she always made sure the water in her cup was warm.
So when Mu Xi said to them that she would prepare warm water for her in the future, all of Nan Xi’s anger vanished instantly.
Even though she didn’t remember her, Mu Xi hadn’t changed at all.
Strong, composed, and meticulous.
Nan Xi had said she didn’t want warm water because she didn’t want anyone else pouring water for her. If someone could take good care of her, that person could only be Mu Xi, and she wanted her to do it personally.
…Five years after Mu Xi disappeared, Nan Xi was sick for a long time. As soon as she recovered, she flew abroad to study.
Thinking back to five years ago, Nan Xi cried and cried, clenching her fists and hitting the quilt hard.
What wonderful days they had! How happy they were together!
How could Mu Xi bear to forget? How could she forget…?
She hated her. Nan Xi decided she would hate Mu Xi, hate her for the rest of her life.
…But now she felt so uncomfortable.
Nan Xi pounded the quilt for a while, then sat up in bed with a sullen face and started messaging her family psychologist.
Nan Zhiyai had already given her the contact information of all the household staff before she boarded the plane, including Mu Xi’s. But Nan Xi guessed she must have a private number too.
The psychologist replied quickly.
Perhaps it was the doctor’s habit to be on call 24 hours a day, or perhaps it was simply because they dared not neglect the young miss of the Nan family. Nan Xi didn’t care which it was.
With red eyes, she scheduled a psychology consultation for the following afternoon.
Because she would definitely wake up very late tomorrow, so she wouldn’t have time in the morning.
This also coincided with Mu Xi’s arrangements.
After doing this, Nan Xi collapsed back onto the bed, immobile as if she had lost the ability to move.
A voice in her head told her that she had to take a shower, wash her hair, and tidy herself up so that she wouldn’t lose face when she saw Mu Xi the next day.
But another voice told her that this was all just a dream. Did she really think that someone who had disappeared for five years would suddenly appear in her living room?
Five years… the living room…
In the end, the weak constitution of an omega prevailed. Nan Xi was too tired that day, first from the plane and car rides, and then from crying for so long.
She didn’t shower or wash her hair, lying in bed and crying herself to sleep.
Nan Xi was so tired that she didn’t even dream. She slept soundly until noon the next day, waking up with a dull headache, feeling as uncomfortable as if she had stayed up all night in the lab.
…Woke up.
Was it really not a dream? Maybe her dream had started a long time ago. Maybe everything that happened yesterday was just a dream conjured up by the active factors in her mind, apart from the chemical elements.
No Mu Xi, no reunion.
Nan Xi had had dreams like this before. In her dreams, Mu Xi would either cry and apologize to her, confessing her feelings, or stand aloof, mocking and sarcastic. But the common thread in every dream was—when she woke up, nothing was there.
Nan Xi was very scared.
Hating this person… but that person had to exist, right?
Ignoring her messy hair, she scrambled out of bed and paced anxiously around the bedroom twice before deciding to go out and take a look.
She was still wearing the same clothes from yesterday, and her eyes were swollen and red like the walnuts her grandfather loved to play with.
Nan Xi gently opened the door, wanting to sneak a peek. If she could see Mu Xi’s figure, it would mean that everything yesterday wasn’t a dream.
Who would have thought that reality had no such thing as “sneaking”? Nan Xi had only opened the door a crack when Mu Xi’s well-dressed and radiant face appeared before her, as if she was about to knock.
…
Mu Xi had been standing in front of Nan Xi’s door for quite a while.
If Nan Xi didn’t get up soon, she might need to notify the family doctor who was coming to give Nan Xi a full physical examination to come later.
But Mu Xi was also hesitating about whether she should wake Nan Xi up, and whether she herself should be the one to do it. So she stood at Nan Xi’s door, uncertain.
While she was hesitating, the door was pulled open, and a beautiful but ghost-like face appeared before her.
The two looked at each other for a few seconds.
Nan Xi forced a calm facade, glaring coldly at the polite Mu Xi standing at her door.
But in reality, the little person inside her was frantically pulling her hair, wishing she could tear it all out.
Such terrifying eyes.
Indeed, she shouldn’t have been the one to wake her up…
Mu Xi awkwardly touched her nose and stood at the door, trying to communicate with Nan Xi: “Young Miss, the family doctor will arrive soon to give you a physical examination. Are you available for the examination?”
Although she asked the question, Mu Xi was already prepared to be scolded and then cancel the examination while apologizing to the doctor.
The reason for cancellation would be that she had made a mistake in scheduling, definitely not because Miss Nan Xi was throwing a tantrum.
“I’ll be downstairs in an hour,” Nan Xi said coldly, no longer looking at her, and prepared to close the door again. When only a sliver of the door remained open, just enough for Mu Xi’s eye to be seen, Nan Xi reopened the door, adding a hint of threat, “You better forget what I look like right now. Pretend you didn’t see anything.”
But Mu Xi’s memory was indeed very good, which was why she could firmly remember every instruction Nan Zhiyai gave her.
Despite this, Mu Xi respectfully replied “Yes,” and even bowed to the door before turning to go downstairs to receive the arriving family doctor.
After such an extreme situation last night, the young miss hadn’t refused to have a full physical examination (saving her a lot of trouble), which truly moved her.
What did it matter if her attitude was a bit bad? Nan Xi was willing to let her go and let herself go, and Mu Xi was already very grateful.
As soon as Nan Xi turned around, she looked annoyed, stripped off her clothes, and rushed into the bathroom for a shower. During this time, her calf bumped into the bathtub, leaving a small but noticeable red mark.
She added a lot of bath salts to the tub and didn’t idle while soaking in the water. She carefully used a beauty device to reduce the swelling around her eyes, then applied skincare products, waiting for them to be fully absorbed.
And brushing her teeth. Nan Xi repeatedly checked in the mirror to ensure her teeth were white and beautiful, with nothing strange in the gaps. Then she suddenly started to worry about what clothes she should wear, whether the color of the skirt should be chosen based on the weather or her mood…
A black skirt, perhaps. Black suited her mood and complemented her skin tone. It would be best if it made her look so pale that she glowed, directly blinding Mu Xi.
Nan Xi completed everything within an hour, just as she had said.
When she reappeared before Mu Xi, Nan Xi was even more beautiful and arrogant than yesterday, like a white swan draped in black feathers.
But Mu Xi didn’t show any reaction to her good condition.
Instead, she looked at the two doctors standing in front of her and tentatively asked one of them, “Dr. Zhang, the full physical examination I scheduled for the young miss shouldn’t include mental health, I wonder if you…”
“I asked him to come,” Nan Xi interrupted her, offering no further explanation.
Mu Xi immediately dared not have any further questions: “If you need it, I will also faithfully record your mental health status.”
Regarding the family doctor responsible for Nan Xi’s full physical examination, Mu Xi cautiously chose a female omega, and even her assistants were all female omegas, to avoid unnecessary trouble.
She believed that female omegas should get along quite well, and besides, Nan Xi’s physical condition was her privacy, and she might not be willing to have her present during the examination.
…Not to mention what had happened last night.
Actually, from the moment she saw Nan Xi today, Mu Xi felt quite awkward, but her professionalism didn’t allow her to avoid it.
So when Dr. Anna and her assistant were preparing in the conservatory, Mu Xi silently retreated.
Who knew that before Mu Xi could even fully step out, her wrist was immediately grabbed by Nan Xi.
Nan Xi was constantly watching her every move. Seeing her about to leave, she immediately asked vigilantly, “Where are you going?”
“Young Miss, without your permission, I should avoid your physical examination.”
“Then I want you to stay,” Nan Xi said immediately. “I order you to stay and accompany me during the examination.”
Saying this, Nan Xi paused, as if considering whether her attitude was too forceful or somewhat impolite.
After a moment of contemplation, she raised her head, forcing a smile that she thought was friendly, but which looked fierce in Mu Xi’s eyes:
“You are my housekeeper, right? Then I should be able to make such a request of you.”
“Are you willing?”
