I Am The Third Party (GL) - Chapter 28
“What are you looking at? So engrossed?”
Qi Xi’s dismissive voice echoed in my ears. My shoulders sank, and Qi Xi hugged me.
I didn’t look at her, continuing to gaze at the magnificent building just a few steps away, lost in a dream as clear as the sky. Qi Xi, dissatisfied with my indifference, tilted my chin so we could meet. “Do you think this building is beautiful?”
Why did she sound so disapproving of it? Did she dislike it? But just because she doesn’t like it doesn’t mean I can’t like it. Of course, it was impossible for me to deceive my own feelings in order to cater to her preferences, so I answered, “I think it looks good.”
At this time, A Xiang, who had been quiet behind me, suddenly said, “I think this building looks good too, young master. Look at the blue sky and white clouds. Hey, it’s quite artistic conception. Sister Xian’er has really good taste. She thinks that things that look good are different from others! Ah, ouch–“
Qi Xi stepped forward and kicked A Xiang on the butt, “Is it your turn to speak?”
A Xiang jumped back, feeling very aggrieved, “Young master…”
“Alright, alright, let’s go.” I hurriedly pulled Qi Xi away. Many people on the side looked over, and some were gloating, with a wicked look on their faces. These two people just messed around on the street, not afraid of being laughed at.
Qi Xi tapped his heels on the ground, glared at Ah Xiang, and shouted, “Ah Xiang, lead the way.”
“Hey,” Ah Xiang covered his butt and jumped twice, looked around, took us around to the back of the main building, walked to the entrance of an underground parking lot, looked around to see that no one was paying attention, and led us down again.
As soon as we got down, a car followed us, and the headlights hit the fluorescent sign on the wall, a flash of red.
I took Qi Xi’s hand and turned back to see Ah Xiang took out an umbrella from somewhere and followed behind. What was he doing? It wasn’t raining, and even if it rained, we wouldn’t get wet.
“Why is Ah Xiang holding an umbrella?” I asked as we walked.
Qi Xi put his arm around my waist and turned left, “Camera.”
Camera? Why didn’t I see it?
I raised my head to look, but it was pitch black underground and I couldn’t see anything. Suddenly, my chin was pulled back and my head was lowered.
Qi Xi whispered, “Don’t look.”
She then asked, “Didn’t I tell you to wear a hat just in front of the door?”
“Yeah, I have one.” I rummaged through my bag to get it.
“Put it on.”
“Yeah.”
As I put on my hat, Qi Xi pulled up the hood of his hoodie. Ah Xiang flirted with his umbrella, moving with ease, like a ballroom dancer. Especially when he reached a corner, he would shift his position, shifting left to right, front to back, tilting the umbrella to the side, just enough to cover our heads.
Soon, the front lit up, the fire lights on, and there was an elevator against the wall.
Qi Xi leaned over and whispered, “See that door around the corner from the elevator? Walk along the wall, go up to the first floor, and we’ll meet you at the fire escape.”
I nodded and took small steps towards him, but Qi Xi and the others retraced their steps, turning right next to a Mercedes-Benz and disappearing.
What’s going on? We’re not here to go shopping, so sneaky?
But it’s fun.
I lowered my hat brim, head bowed, and walked in small, quick steps. This was probably in a corner of the underground parking lot, with few cars and no one around. I kept thinking about the security cameras Qi Xi mentioned, but I didn’t see any. I wanted to look up, but I suppressed my curiosity and simply trotted towards the fire escape.
The moment I pushed open the small door and entered, it was pitch black, quite scary. As soon as I closed the door, there was a bang, and the stairwell was illuminated.
Logically, the light should have made me feel more at ease, but I instinctively ducked out the door the moment it came on, standing with my back to the wall. I waited until the stairwell was dark again before I tiptoed in, closed the door gently, and climbed up on tiptoe.
I calculated that I should be on the first floor, so I fished my key from my pocket. The keychain had a glow-in-the-dark amber pendant. I shone the glow-in-the-dark light on the fluorescent sign at the fire escape entrance, saw it clearly said “first floor,” and leaned against the wall, sighing with relief.
My phone vibrated. I opened it and saw it was a message from Qi Xi, telling me to find the door to the cleaning room in the fire escape. I felt around on the wall and found it. I pushed gently, but it wasn’t locked, so I slipped in.
Qi Xi then told me to open the closet in the room and change into my work clothes. I threw my clothes and bag into the trash.
My mouth twitched. Damn, this is crazy! She’d buy me something else
if I threw them away! I lowered my head and rummaged through my bag, pulling out everything I had. Fortunately, my winter cleaning clothes are bulky, so the pockets hold plenty of stuff. But after searching, I couldn’t seem to find anything worth keeping. After all, it wasn’t worth much…
Suddenly, a wave of sadness washed over me.
Before leaving, I had changed my hairstyle to complement my working-class look. I swaggered out the door on the other side of the room, pushing a cart loaded with rags and buckets. As I stepped out, I was suddenly filled with a dazzling light. I half-shielded my eyes and looked up. Several large crystal tassel chandeliers blinded me.
“Hey, which floor are you in charge of? Why are you in the reception hall?”
My back stiffened, and I slowly turned around to see a man in a steel-gray suit, a crimson tie, and black-rimmed glasses, looking at me sullenly.
Oh my god, isn’t this Ah Xiang?
A closer look revealed a small hole in his left earlobe. Where’s the little iron ring? Did he take it off?
When I didn’t say anything, he continued, “Logistics staff can’t just come in and out of the hall casually. That’s the rule. How did you get your pre-employment training?”
Ugh, you kid, you’re acting like a b1tch! I’ll let you show off, and I’ll kick you to death!
I lowered my head and said hurriedly, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, this is my first time on the job. I was
a little nervous and forgot.” Ah Xiang looked me up and down with a stern face, snorted, and said, “Forget it, the boss is coming to inspect today, and there are not enough people to do the cleaning upstairs. Come up with me.”
I nodded and bowed, “Hey, hey.”
I followed Ah Xiang timidly, and faced the strange looks from time to time along the way, and broke out in a cold sweat. Ah Xiang in front of me, however, held his head high and even greeted the people walking by. He was very serious, just like he worked here. It was really amazing. After entering the elevator, Ah Xiang directly pressed the 34th floor. The sightseeing elevator slowly rose. Watching the scenery below my feet getting smaller and smaller, and people becoming like ants, I grabbed the handle of the cart in my hand, feeling scared and excited.
My last and only time in a play was during my freshman year. A roommate of mine was in the drama club, and on Valentine’s Day, they were performing the old-fashioned “Romeo and Juliet.” Since they didn’t have enough people, they asked me, who was there to support my roommate, to fill in. Even though I was just a maid, I was very serious and had a lot of fun. I’ll never forget it. However, no matter how memorable that performance was
, it couldn’t be as thrilling as this role-playing experience.
