▽ Episode 13: Spatial Magic・Intermediate
The Freestyle Cat is strong.
First of all, its speed has become on a completely different level.
It was already a nimble little cat before, but now I’m sure it can move at a speed that the me from before death couldn’t even perceive.
It also comes with kinetic vision that can handle that speed.
Its physical attack power hasn’t increased.
However, it feels like the amount of MP has increased considerably.
Even its magic has become strong enough to injure a Hobgoblin.
Basically, Rank III seems overwhelmingly stronger than Rank II.
Right now, I’ve infiltrated a Goblin settlement.
I entered under cover of night. But honestly, coming during the day might’ve made things easier to see.
A settlement lacking the hero Goblin.
If you’re going to conquer it, now’s the time.
Hobgoblins are no longer a match.
The speed difference is just too great.
As I pass by, if I slash them with my claws, I can instantly neutralize them with paralysis.
“Nyaa-o-nya ([Dimension Strike]).”
This is a new magic I acquired from [Spatial Magic・Intermediate].
Its effect is “to transfer only your own melee attack to near the enemy.”
In other words—
My jaw area appeared near the Hobgoblin that was paralyzed and unable to move.
*Chomp*, my cute little mouth bit and tore off the Hobgoblin’s flesh.
Poison injection complete.
『Gugyaaaaaaaaaaa!』
Something came flying.
According to my [Search], it seems to be a long-range flame attack.
The one who launched it was a Goblin wearing a crown.
A high-powered magic from a staff that resembled a scepter.
I understand.
If it hit me directly, even as a Rank III, I’d be killed. One-hit kill.
That’s exactly why I calmly activated my magic.
“Nyan ([Counter Gate]).”
A “jet-black hole” spread out in front of me.
The fireball got sucked into it. And in the next moment, the fireball reappeared above the Goblin King’s head.
The Goblin King couldn’t react in time.
He was incinerated—crown and all.
What kind of thing are you shooting at people…
Well, I’m not a person, I’m a cat though, nya.
What I just used was the [Spatial Magic] spell [Counter Gate].
Its effect is to absorb a long-range attack and transfer it to a location of your choosing.
Since it preserves the kinetic energy, unless it’s a tracking-type attack, it will hit directly.
The MP cost is high, and it also requires an interval between uses.
It’s a powerful magic. But it comes with various limitations.
Still, it’s strong.
I could feel a surge of experience points.
Maybe the Goblin King was a Rank IV specialized in “command ability”.
A low-performance body in exchange for some other kind of power.
Even that spell—if he had good frontliners, it would’ve been scary…
Well, he’s a dead enemy now.
I don’t really understand how strong he was, exactly.
The remaining threat is the Goblin Queen with a massive belly.
That Goblin Queen doesn’t seem to be the type to move herself.
She’s been continuously giving birth to Goblins at a terrifying rate.
“Nyaon.”
I meowed.
There’s a recently acquired skill called [Cry].
I’m leveling it.
Right now it’s just a meaningless skill that “intimidates enemies weaker than yourself.”
But I’m hoping it’ll grow in the future.
According to videos I’ve seen, strong monsters in games often have powerful effects tied to their roars.
Don’t you think it’d be super strong to make enemies flinch at will during battle?
Then, as if responding to my [Cry], the Goblin Queen also let out a cry.
『Oh-ho』
The Goblin Queen’s stomach burst open.
Her once plump body became not just slim—it dropped to zero.
The Goblins bathed in the massive spray of bl00d… began to shine all at once.
Normal Goblins turned into Hobgoblins.
Hobgoblins turned into… black giants with bodies like armor.
………Could that have been a species skill that evolves allies of the same species?
“…Nya.”
Yeah, I don’t think I can win this one.
I bit the Goblin Queen with [Dimension Strike].
After sneakily injecting poison, I chanted a newly acquired spell.
“Nyaaaaahhhhhh ([Home Gate]).”
My vision completely changed.
Before I knew it, I was… sitting curled up at the base of a tree.
▽
I went a bit wild and now I’m exhausted.
The reason was that I wanted to test new [Spatial Magic] and level up. So I attacked the Goblin settlement.
At a glance, it might seem reckless.
However, I have a spell called [Home Gate].
This magic lets me return to a “home-set location” once per day.
It can be activated regardless of whether you’re in battle.
The cost is that it requires half of your MP.
In other words, if your MP is below half, you can’t activate it.
Another downside is that it can only be used once per day.
Also, “Home Registration” can only be done once per day as well. And on the day it’s registered, [Home Gate] can’t be used — that’s about it.
Since it’s a good opportunity, while I’m resting to recover MP, let’s organize the newly acquired [Spatial Magic・Intermediate].
There are five intermediate-level space magic skills in total.
Seems I was blessed with good sense, since I can use all five.
-
- [Dimension Strike]
Launch your own melee attack from any chosen location.
-
- [Dimension Pouch]
Create a small bag-sized storage. It’s probably that so-called inventory thing.
-
- [Dimension Wall]
Fix space to create a wall. It’s like a barrier-type magic. Might even work as footing.
-
- [Home Gate]
Lets you return home. Can only be activated once a day. Requires half of total MP.
-
- [Counter Gate]
Warp a long-range attack to a location of your choice. Maintains kinetic energy and such. Has an interval.
I think they’re all strong spells.
Space magic alone isn’t something you can fight with by itself. But every one of these could become a trump card.
I don’t need [Dimension Pouch] right now, but there’s no harm in having it either.
“Nyaa-aaan ([Natural Healing]).”
I activated the [White Magic] that enhances natural healing.
This magic helps with natural recovery of physical strength, fatigue, minor illnesses, and so on.
But this time, I had a different intention for using it.
The purpose was to enhance the natural recovery rate of MP.
….…Nyan.
MP management is becoming an issue.
It seems I’m a warrior of the mage type.
If that’s the case, I have to consider the possibility of running out of MP during battle.
More importantly, I want to maintain over half of my MP for emergency spells like [Home Gate].
I want a way to recover MP.
What caught my eye were the grasses growing thick underfoot.
In game playthrough videos and such, it looked like people recovered MP and HP using medicinal herbs and so on.
I wondered if I might be able to do that in this world too.
I focused my consciousness. Tried using [Instinct Detection].
It said the grass underfoot is at least safe to eat. I tried eating it. Bitter. Not tasty. I want to spit it out, but I force it down.
…..…From what I can feel, nothing happened.
Hmm.
I’ll probably need to keep looking into active methods of MP recovery from now on.
