Episode 26: Revenge
▽ Episode 26: Revenge
The Wind Wolves leap at me.
One behind me seems to have a high talent for [Wind Magic]. It cast [Enchant Air] on all its allies. It also used support magic I’ve never seen before.
Three of them fire magic specialized in keeping me in check.
I can’t dodge it and take the hit.
It hurts. It’s an air cannon, but it packs a punch like getting hit. Depending on where it hits, it could knock someone out with a single blow.
I activate [Battle Fur].
Just then, the Wind Wolves from the left and right come at me with claw strikes. Not the poison variant—pure damage-enhanced attacks.
“Nyan.”
I body-slammed the wolf on the right.
Strength difference.
Apparently—with [Battle Fur] active, I have about a full level of strength above it.
The right wolf gets blown away like it was hit by a car.
The left wolf’s claws slice through empty air.
I calmly run my claws through the open wolf on the left—its head disappears.
I had slashed and killed it.
It was incredibly powerful.
I stood there stunned.
Then, a bite came at me from a wolf above.
I stepped back to dodge it. But the wolf I’d blown away earlier had returned.
It slashed me. I thought “this is bad,” but… it didn’t hurt much.
There was the pain of being hit—
But less damage than expected.
[Battle Fur] had protected me from the damage.
I grabbed the wolf with my tail and slammed it into the ground.
It landed badly and broke its neck, dying.
“Nyaaaaaaaaaaaan!”
I followed up with [Terror Howl].
The Wind Wolves all backed off a step.
It was a full-power combo.
Even though their attacks had hit me, the fact that it didn’t work well, combined with their despair, made [Terror Howl] very effective.
At this point, it was just simple work.
I chased them one by one and finished them with [Thunder Claws].
I focused on speed and didn’t care if I got hit a little.
The enemy’s claws can’t pierce my fur.
Even if one or two had [Poison Claws],
I judged that it would still be hard for them to get through my fur.
I think that judgment was correct.
If it was really dangerous, [Instinct Detection] would warn me.
Dragging the battle out is the real problem.
I wiped them all out.
Didn’t get to test [Poison Bite] much…
▽
Apparently, [Battle Fur] was stronger than I’d imagined.
But after the battle, I didn’t even have the strength to stand up on my own.
It’s a skill that continuously drains stamina.
With all the intense movement, the fatigue felt many times greater.
Panting hard—
I couldn’t stop my ragged breathing.
I allowed myself to take a few hits because I was close to running out of stamina.
But if I had deactivated [Battle Fur], I might’ve taken a serious injury from those hits.
It couldn’t be helped.
It was scary though.
“Nya~.”
There was one move I dodged because I felt danger from it.
That was probably something like [Poison Bite]—
A slash with enhanced claws.
It would have pierced through [Battle Fur]—
Maybe not enough to kill, but it might’ve broken a bone.
Wind Wolves are by no means below me.
While hiding, I used [Natural Healing] to recover.
Stamina recovers relatively quickly.
Since I fought multiple enemies at once, I got a lot of experience points.
Right now, I’m level 21… My stats are higher than when I was level 1.
I’m definitely getting stronger.
…Let’s try it, just once.
I decided to fight the Undead Dragon again.
Some might say, “Just wait until Rank V.”
Even my own reason tells me the same.
But I also want to test the strength of War Thunder Cat.
After a new evolution, whether I can get stronger or not is unknown.
Testing each time I evolve isn’t a bad thing.
Luckily, the enemy doesn’t chase too far.
As long as my MP doesn’t drop below half, I can still escape using [Home Gate].
Just the tip—
I’ll fight the Undead Dragon a little.
There should be a lot I can gain from fighting a stronger opponent.
That’s the official reason.
The real reason is that [Instinct Detection] won’t shut up.
I know.
The item in that treasure chest must be that valuable.
Having it or not could affect my survival rate going forward.
It’s a feeling—
No, a certainty.
A cat’s instinct can’t resist an oasis in the desert.
▽
What I arrived at was the Spirit Forest.
Compared to the Steam Forest, my current hunting ground, the temperature here feels much colder and lonely.
Heavy air—and a smell of decay.
Let’s hurry up and fight the Undead Dragon.
I ran at full speed, escaping from interfering monsters like the Lich. And in no time, I reached the Undead Dragon.
“Nyan ([Generator]).”
The enemy thinks I’m just an insect.
We should be in the same Rank now. But the gap between me and it is still like “boss character versus trash mob.”
I’ll take advantage of that arrogance.
I fully charge [Generator] for a whole minute.
Then I take another 30 seconds to chant [Thunder Cannon].
Here I go.
“Nyaaaaaaaaaaaan ([Thunder Cannon])!”
The thunder shell attacked the Undead Dragon.
▽
I saw it.
The Undead Dragon definitely took a direct hit from [Thunder Cannon] and flinched.
Its decayed flesh was burned and scorched in places.
The spot where the scales had peeled off seemed to take a clean hit.
Wounds characteristic of being struck by lightning—electric marks—were clearly carved into it.
『――――!!』
The Undead Dragon seems to have dull pain perception.
It kept moving like it didn’t feel pain. But it understood that it had been attacked.
As if to say “this is just the warm-up,” it was about to unleash [Roar].
Last time, I fled at this stage.
But now, I have information.
I’ve adapted to you, even just a little.
What I used was [Wonder Time].
With that, I escape the “sound hitbox.”
At the same time, I begin chanting the second [Thunder Cannon].
Unfortunately, because of MP issues, I can’t use [Generator] again.
10 seconds.
Apparently, the Undead Dragon isn’t very smart.
It doesn’t realize I’m in an invincible state and keeps firing breath attacks.
What a generous show.
I was a little scared, but I didn’t dodge—
I passed straight through the breath attack’s hitbox.
The roaring, death-colored breath passed through my semi-transparent body.
20 seconds.
After spitting breath for a whole 10 seconds, the Undead Dragon tried to close the distance using its massive legs.
A stomp.
Naturally, it’s nullified.
30 seconds.
I took all sorts of attacks.
Claw strikes, bites, tail smashes, sweeping attacks, and even dark-element magic attacks…
All nullified.
This inherited skill is absurdly overpowered.
I’m glad I got it.
“Nyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan ([Thunder Cannon])!”
I hit it with the second blast.
The lightning swallowed the massive Dragon—
Leaving chaotic scars across the land—
