▽ Episode 39: Fangs of the End
A storm-like barrage of halberd strikes comes.
I’m completely cautious about the wind part.
Because if the wind is too strong, my body would be blown away. And ironically, I’d never experience a direct hit from the axe.
The enemy understands.
That I’m a creature not blessed with durability.
In contrast, my victory conditions are strict.
Either I poison him, or somehow stop his movement.
That’s about all that exists.
I completely dodge the halberd.
I have the speed advantage. While dodging, I activate [Flash Claws]. Of course, I also use [Thunder Claw Slash] at the same time.
The enemy knocks away the claws with his halberd.
A kick comes with no delay.
A kick strong enough to blow away internal organs is unleashed casually, like a simple check.
Maybe his species holds a higher hierarchy than mine.
I forcibly stop it with [Dimension Wall].
Then, I target the footing of the enemy, now standing on one leg, using [Another Point].
With [Dig], I suddenly dig into the ground.
I strike there with [Wind Magic].
Despite the shock not being that strong, the enemy loses balance and falls.
At the exact spot where the opponent would land on his butt, I barely slip in a [Thunder Trap].
I made him step on the trap with his butt.
*Zzzt zzzt*, purple lightning bursts forth. And even the King lets out a scream.
It’s a trap that emphasizes “movement interruption” more than damage.
I go in for a follow-up.
“Nyaon! ([Thunder Burst])”
I didn’t approach—because I’d just be blown away by the wind anyway.
I figure the enemy doesn’t have that much MP.
Still, it doesn’t look like it’s a heavily consuming spell.
There’s no merit in getting close—at least not now.
So, I shave down his stamina with lightning.
If he gets paralyzed—then it will finally be time to move in.
『Fuu!』
The King diverts the lightning with wind magic.
Physically, that’s impossible.
But I can tell—my magic got entwined by his magic and was forcibly diverted.
The enemy understands the danger of “paralysis”.
At this point, I think of nothing else but paralyzing the enemy.
That’s where I’ll deliver death with my fangs.
Just when I was about to release another lightning strike—
The enemy, still on the ground, shoots his body out using [Wind Magic].
I thought he’d take time to stand up, so I was caught off guard.
…Not really.
I figured he’d at least do *that* much.
I had already set a trap with [Another Point].
What I had prepared was the [Earth Magic] spell [Wall].
The ground rises.
A hastily made wall of earth.
There’s no way that alone would stop the King.
But on that raised dirt part, an obvious magic circle is carved in.
Yes.
It’s my specialty—[Lightning Magic]’s [Thunder Trap].
I had set an overt trap.
There’s no way he’d step on it.
He must’ve thought, “just a distraction,” and underestimated it.
My true aim was to manipulate the dirt I placed it on, and forcibly hit him with it.
Apparently, the body blown by wind magic couldn’t stop suddenly.
He cheerfully slammed himself into the dirt wall with the trap.
The wall itself is easily destroyed.
But thunder roars in a chain reaction, and the King’s body is definitely struck by lightning.
His muscles stiffen. And for just a few seconds, his movements freeze fatally.
As expected of the [Thunder Trap], which specializes in “stopping movement.”
Other [Lightning Magic] can’t stop movement this decisively.
Though, that’s also what makes getting someone to step on it so hard.
But my true strength as a magic-user lies in [Spatial Magic].
Since I can control the trap’s position itself, I have the option of *forcing* a hit.
And stepping on the trap is not where it ends.
No—I won’t let it end there.
I use [Wind Magic] to send the kicked-up dust into the enemy’s eyes.
As a biological reaction, the King reflexively flinches and closes his eyes in surprise.
In that moment—
I had already used [Battle Fur] and [Super Acceleration]—to close the distance.
From my claws, a surge of purple lightning bursts out.
“Nyaou ([Flash Claws]).”
With claws turned into an area attack, I slash the enemy vertically.
It doesn’t have power enough to kill.
The claws don’t reach his internal organs.
Against his hard, thick muscles, at best, I can only manage some grazing wounds.
And that’s enough.
Throughout this battle, I’ve hit him with lightning multiple times.
It’s about time.
…Just now, I definitely sensed it with [Instinct Detection].
The enemy.
That great King—
Has been paralyzed.
From a tiny bit of pain, his focus dispersed. And with the paralysis, even his thoughts froze—that moment confirmed it.
“Nyan.”
I unleashed my full-powered [Poison Bite].
Against a steel-like body, my fangs don’t do much.
But I *did* succeed in delivering the poison.
That was the end.
After that, I kept using [Quick Escape] until the King died. And in the end, I completely shut him down until death with [Wonder Time], whose cooldown had finished.
In his final moment, it seems the King could only laugh at my outrageous lawlessness. I laughed along with him, as if I’d been drawn into it.
Surely, through our battle, we became a little closer.
