I Became the Butler of the Seventh Princess, Who’s Regressing Into a Child - Episode 11
Episode 11
After gaining my job and blessing at the temple, I headed to my next destination—the Adventurers Guild.
The guild building soon came into view after a short walk. It had a simple exterior. But I could feel the bustling energy coming from inside. Adventurers, likely looking for work, were entering the building one after another.
Feeling a bit nervous, I opened the guild’s doors. Inside, many adventurers were gathered, checking or reporting on various quests. It was the same scene I’d seen in the game.
I walked toward the guild counter and spoke to the receptionist.
“I’d like to register as an adventurer.”
The receptionist smiled warmly and pulled out some paperwork to explain the process.
“Adventurer registration, right? First, please fill out some basic information… Then, we’ll need to confirm your current job and blessing. May I check your abilities using this device?”
The receptionist was named Ian. He took out a pair of glasses and asked.
“What is that?”
“It’s a magical tool used to check your stats. If you allow it, we can view your abilities.”
“Understood, please go ahead.”
…There was no such magical tool in the game. As soon as Ian put on the glasses, a window appeared in front of me. A message popped up informing me that Ian was viewing my stats. And it asked whether I wanted to permit it. I selected “Yes.”
Ian checked my stats while filling in my name. It seems there’s no need to write down details like my job or blessing—he’s just focused on my name.
“Registration is complete. You’re free to take on quests from this guild whenever you’re ready.”
“Got it. Could you tell me about the nearby dungeons?”
“Well… there are a few. But for beginners, I recommend the [Black Swamp Cave]. It’s within the city, so it’s easy to get to.”
The [Black Swamp Cave], huh? That was also a low-level dungeon in the game. There shouldn’t be any particularly strong or troublesome monsters there, so I should be fine.
“…Understood. I’ll give it a try.”
I’d like to take on some quests. But at level 1, I can’t accept anything decent anyway. For now, it’s best to focus on leveling up.
Leaving the guild behind, I started walking toward the dungeon. Recalling my game knowledge, I headed for the dungeon that should be located on the outskirts of the city.
It didn’t take long to find the [Black Swamp Cave]. The dungeon’s entrance was a swirling black vortex. Other adventurers were entering, seemingly drawn into the vortex.
There was a guard adventurer nearby. But it looked like they were only keeping watch to make sure no monsters escaped. It didn’t seem like I needed to do anything special to enter.
Feeling a bit nervous, I walked toward the vortex.
As I stepped through, a warm gust of wind brushed my face. I found myself inside a dark cave.
…….So this is the dungeon. Compared to outside, it’s cooler, with a bit of a chill in the air.
Now then… this is my first dungeon. I’ll need to stay alert.
The dungeon walls were rough and bare, with narrow passageways extending deeper in. After walking for a while, a mist-like form gathered in front of me, and something appeared.
Two small, four-legged monsters covered in black fur were glaring at me.
“Shadow Wolves, huh…”
These low-level monsters were familiar from the game. But seeing them in person had quite an impact. I drew my sword and gauged the distance between us.
…The sword felt heavy. In the game, I could swing it easily. But actually using it with my own body made me tense.
There’s no need to be nervous. The recommended level for this dungeon is 1. Even as I am now, I should be able to handle these monsters without any issues.
Calm down, me. With my current stats, I should be able to defeat the Shadow Wolves without a problem.
As I thought that, both wolves leaped at me at the same time.
“Kuh…!”
I dodged as the Shadow Wolf lunged at me and swiftly swung my sword downward. The attack connected. As expected, the Shadow Wolf wasn’t much of a threat.
I attempted to follow up with another combo strike, but the second Shadow Wolf swiped at me with its front paw in a counterattack. I dodged its sharp claws, but the gust of wind from the swing and the pressure it exerted made me instinctively tense up.
…There’s no need to panic.
I took a step back to create some distance, then observed the Shadow Wolf again. I was carefully planning my next move. Little by little, I dealt more damage.
After a few minutes of fighting, I finally managed to take down both Shadow Wolves.
“So….. tired!”
I shouted, dropping to my knees on the spot. I felt like I’d fought a lot. But in reality, I had only taken down two Shadow Wolves.
When the monsters were defeated, they dropped materials… but the only things I got were some Shadow Wolf materials and two magic stones.
Based on game logic, these items wouldn’t sell for much. The materials I gathered from a dungeon at this level wouldn’t even cover basic living expenses.
What I learned from this battle… is that this world is nothing like the game.
Every sword swing tires me out, and even just facing the monsters fills me with tension. It’s a completely different experience compared to frantically mashing buttons on a controller from behind a screen.
The sensation of cutting into the monsters still lingers in my hands. Surprisingly, though, I don’t feel that uncomfortable with combat. Maybe my senses have changed a bit since I reincarnated. If I were still in modern Japan, I’m sure this would have made me feel awful.
At the very least, I can manage in combat as I am now… so next time, I’ll try using my job abilities.
Maybe I should explore deeper into the dungeon.
