A giant skeleton—Skeleton Lord—was standing before Anfi and her group, intimidating them.

It looked down at the trembling Anfi and her companions, almost as if it was enjoying their fear.

For a moment, I hesitated about whether I should intervene. But I quickly made up my mind.  

I couldn’t just stand by and watch them get killed. And more importantly, there was the temptation of the rare items dropped by the unique monster.  

If I win here, I can expect to level up and strengthen my equipment, so it’s definitely worth fighting.  

But for that, I need to prepare as quickly as possible. As I am now, I wouldn’t be able to win.

You can earn status points not only by leveling up but also through certain actions—like defeating a unique monster for the first time.  

For solo play, it’s usually safe to spread points evenly between strength, magic, and agility.  

However, to defeat the Skeleton Lord… I have to focus solely on magic.  

I allocate all 15 points to magic. Now I’m ready.  

As I dash toward the Skeleton Lord, I begin preparing my magic.  

First, I imbue my sword with the “火” (fire) rune.  

The Skeleton Lord is weak to fire.  

As the fire attribute takes hold, my sword heats up as if it’s burning.  

Next, I add the “打” (Impact) rune.  

The Skeleton Lord is more vulnerable to blunt attacks than slashes—using an impact-type weapon is the most effective way to break bones.  

By combining these runes, my sword now has both [Fire] and [Impact] attributes.  

Preparation complete.  

Noticing my footsteps, the Skeleton Lord shifts its gaze toward me. Following its movement, the trembling Anfi also looks my way.  

“Hey, you there! Is it alright if I take this one down?”  

Even though the situation is dire, in MMORPGs, it’s bad manners to steal someone else’s kill. So I ask just to be sure.  

“…Y-Yes!”  

Anfi, holding her fallen companion, responds with a trembling voice.  

The Skeleton Lord stares straight at me.  

“Gaaah!”  

It lets out a roar from who knows where.  

Its black, marble-like eyes fix on me. …The pressure is intense.  

I cast [Acceleration] on myself, boosting my agility.  

At that moment, the Skeleton Lord brings down the longsword it was holding.  

…Alright. I can follow its attacks with my current abilities. And… I know what’s coming after the downward swing.  

—A horizontal sweep.  

Predicting the next move, I step in right before the attack lands.  

The Skeleton Lord, surprised, tries to sweep me with its sword.  

There’s a significant level gap between the Skeleton Lord and me.  

If I fought it head-on, winning would be tough. I need to finish it in a quick, decisive battle.  

Closing in on its blind spot, I activate my skill.  

While swiftly inscribing “ガードブレイク” (Guard Break) into the air, I slash with my sword.  

“……!”  

My strike hits the Skeleton Lord’s weak spot, causing it to stagger. By exploiting both of its weaknesses, I’m able to make it flinch easily.  

—Now’s my chance to attack relentlessly!  

Immediately, I cast [Strength Enhancement] on myself and pour all my remaining magic power into the next move, activating the [Pampering] skill.  

I’m running low on magic… I’ve used up almost all of it. But now I’ve become powerful enough to strike like someone far beyond level 2.  

With the Skeleton Lord’s defense weakened from the earlier skill, I step in and unleash a series of slashes.  

My impact-type sword, burning with fire, crashes into the Skeleton Lord’s side. The sound of bones shattering and burning fills the air.  

But the Skeleton Lord isn’t finished yet—it glares at me, still trying to move.  

I swiftly parry its raised sword and swing again.  

I continue targeting its weak points with precise strikes. After hitting a spot once, it becomes harder to make it flinch again.  

…That’s why I keep switching targets, aiming for different weak spots.  

But it still won’t fall.  

…Damn it. Did the Skeleton Lord’s HP really have this much left?

I start to feel a slight sense of urgency.

How much longer until I can finish it off?

I raise my sword once more and strike down at the Skeleton Lord’s head.  

But after so many hits, the Skeleton Lord no longer flinches.  

“Gaaaah!”  

As if releasing its fury, the Skeleton Lord lets out a roar and swings its longsword.  

—This is it.  

A huge opening appears whenever the Skeleton Lord transitions into an attack.  

I step into that brief moment, thrusting my sword straight into its chest.  

The flames on the sword flare up, shattering its bones with a crackling sound—bone fragments fly apart.  

The longsword aimed at me clatters to the ground, making an empty sound. It then fades away like mist.  

A moment later… the Skeleton Lord collapses with a loud crash.  

……..I somehow managed it.  

That was close. Unlike in the game, I couldn’t see the enemy’s HP bar. So not knowing how much I’d whittled down was really nerve-racking.  

I drop to my knees on the spot, taking a deep breath. My body, which had been moving non-stop, suddenly remembers its need for oxygen. And I focus on calming myself with repeated breaths.  

Where the Skeleton Lord had completely disappeared, I now see drop items scattered on the ground.
