- Chapter 31 - Mid-Autumn Festival (Part 1)
“Today is the Mid-Autumn Festival.”
The thought flashed through Jiang Qing’s mind, and she abruptly opened her eyes and sat up.
She had been oddly emotional last night. After sharing a few glasses of red wine with Hou Xue, things naturally progressed under the influence of alcohol — and, admittedly, they had gone a little overboard.
Jiang Qing tapped her slightly throbbing head and laughed softly to herself.
She recalled how she and Hou Xue had started kissing in the restaurant and didn’t stop until they reached the bedroom. After an intense session, they moved to the bathroom to clean up — only to end up trying a new position in the bathtub.
It had been indulgent, but true to form, Hou Xue was up early as usual — off to work to handle her mountain of ever-growing, high-stakes responsibilities.
Despite being the boss, she didn’t seem to enjoy many privileges. Was this what it took to become a business mogul?
“Lead by example” — that was Hou Xue’s response the last time Jiang Qing asked.
“…So that’s why you work overtime every day? To inspire your employees to do the same?”
“Hmm?” Hou Xue had tilted her head slightly and mischievously twisted Jiang Qing’s question. “Want me to stay with you?”
Since they’d confirmed their relationship, Hou Xue hadn’t held back at all. Jiang Qing, naturally, matched her pace. She narrowed her eyes and replied, “Yes.” Reaching out to stroke Hou Xue’s cheek, she added,
“My girlfriend comes home at eleven every night and cruelly leaves me alone in bed. Isn’t that tragic? I’m not even allowed to complain?”
Chuckling, Hou Xue leaned in to kiss Jiang Qing’s eyes and whispered, “It’s just a busy period — a major project. Once this phase is over, things will ease up. Okay?”
“The day after tomorrow, no overtime,” Jiang Qing demanded firmly.
“Alright,” Hou Xue agreed immediately and leaned in to steal a kiss.
“What are you doing?” Jiang Qing laughed, pressing her palm over Hou Xue’s lips. The feel of those soft lips against her hand sent a shiver through her. Even after all this time, she still wasn’t entirely used to Hou
Xue’s suggestive touches — they too easily stirred inappropriate thoughts first thing in the morning. “If President Hou still plans to make it to work today, then you’d better stop. One more move and I won’t guarantee I won’t tear off the clothes you just put on.”
“You’re so rough,” Hou Xue murmured, kissing her palm. Her gaze was dark and unreadable. “Then… why not?”
“Because you’re supposed to lead by example,” Jiang Qing raised an eyebrow. “And it’s broad daylight.”
“Oh,” Hou Xue reluctantly let go of her hand, her tone a little disappointed. “I’ll head to work then.”
Jiang Qing couldn’t bear to see her girlfriend walk out the door with such a downcast look. She grabbed Hou Xue’s waist and bit her lip lightly.
“Be good. You already went overboard last night — any more and you won’t be able to handle it.”
Hou Xue didn’t look pleased by that and just stared at her.
Jiang Qing knew what she meant, but she didn’t play along. Just as she opened her mouth to say something, Hou Xue’s phone rang.
“Go ahead and answer it,” Jiang Qing said with a smile.
Hou Xue’s expression darkened as she pulled her phone from her pocket.
Two mornings ago, she’d been called away at the crack of dawn for company matters. She’d looked back three times before she even reached the door, clearly reluctant to leave — a far cry from the detached tone she used when she talked about “leading by example.”
Jiang Qing’s thoughts wandered for a moment, then she got out of bed and headed to the dining table for some tomato toast and milk.
The truth was, she thought about Hou Xue all the time — almost every second of every day.
She was driving herself crazy waiting, with Hou Xue leaving early and coming home late every day.
Not long ago, Jiang Qing hadn’t been so understanding. When she got in a mood, all she wanted to do was lock up her successful and powerful girlfriend at home.
She should’ve put a ring on her — keep her from going anywhere.
That’s what she used to think.
Now, Jiang Qing had learned to restrain those unreasonable urges. Though she was still unhappy with Hou Xue’s excessive overtime, she could now manage to gently urge her to go to work — a significant step forward.
Because Jiang Qing realized:
She wasn’t a child. Even if this was her first real relationship, she couldn’t afford to act too immature.
Even if she said all those thoughts out loud, Hou Xue might actually agree to everything — the collar and leash might even arrive that same day.
But Jiang Qing knew: that kind of relationship would be toxic and twisted.
Some desires and fantasies didn’t need to be fulfilled. Used occasionally to spice things up — that would be more than enough.
Finishing her milk, Jiang Qing popped a mint into her mouth.
She was off to the place she had reserved a few days ago — to make mooncakes.
Chapter 31 is out of order and looks like it belongs closer to the end of the story- since 32 has the same title I’m guessing that it’s out of order as well.
Hello, thank you for reading. I reviewed chapters 30, 31, 32, and even 33, and they’re all correct. I didn’t see anything out of order. thank you.
