I Can't Fall for My Own Wife Again After Reincarnation, Right? (GL) - Chapter 10
Yao Jin was one of the few friends Xu Yingran could truly open up to. Every time she was driven crazy by work or life, Yao Jin was there like a trash can, quietly listening to her complaints. In fact, Xu Yingran also felt that maybe she shouldn’t have told Yao Jin those things. But once the words were out, she couldn’t take them back. More importantly, Xu Yingran was a mess right now—she needed a strategist to help her think things through. And Yao Jin clearly fit the role.
“Ah Jin, don’t be so hostile toward me. I just want to get along with you,” Xu Yingran said. “If you really don’t want to hear me talk about these things, then I won’t say them anymore.”
Yao Jin frowned. She was still young—only just turned eighteen—and not experienced enough to resist the smooth-talking Xu Yingran. With just a few words, the little fire she’d felt inside was completely put out. Xu Yingran even said to her, “My secret has to do with my safety, so you must help me keep it.”
Yao Jin would definitely keep the secret. After all, if she told anyone, it would look like *she* was the one with a problem. She didn’t want people thinking she needed a psychological evaluation.
Yao Jin stared deeply at the person in front of her. If what she’d said wasn’t so logical, Yao Jin would’ve really wanted to drag her to the hospital for a full checkup.
“What are you students doing over there?” At that moment, the school gates had already closed. The discipline teacher saw Xu Yingran and Yao Jin lingering outside and shouted, “Morning class is about to start! What are you doing outside? Hurry back to your classroom!”
Even though Xu Yingran wasn’t afraid of the slightly overweight teacher, she didn’t want to cause trouble either. She quickly grabbed Yao Jin’s hand and said, “We’re going now!” and pulled her along as they ran.
Just as they reached the teaching building, the morning bell rang. The two girls rushed upstairs. Luckily, Class 5’s room was near the stairs. When they got inside, they saw that the homeroom teacher hadn’t arrived yet, so Xu Yingran slipped quietly through the back door and into her seat.
Fu Qiao turned around and looked at the two girls sneaking in. Her gaze landed on Yao Jin, who came in with Xu Yingran. She didn’t know what had happened outside the school, but people in the class were already chatting excitedly. Everyone knew that Yao Jin had arrived in a black luxury car. The driver had even opened the door for her, carried her bag, and respectfully called her “Miss.”
This was just like something out of a drama! No one expected to see it in real life.
“Well, well, our little rich miss has arrived~” Chen Yu, always the troublemaker, mocked her. “What’s the new student’s name again? Is your family sitting on a gold mine or something? Why’d you come to a dump like our school?”
But Yao Jin had seen far worse. She didn’t even look at her and just sat down quietly, pulling out her books and stationery like she didn’t hear a thing.
Chen Yu was annoyed by her lack of reaction and was about to say something mean when Xu Yingran suddenly cut in, “She came because she wanted to. Why are you acting like her maid, worrying about it?”
Xu Yingran added, “Isn’t there a saying? The emperor’s not in a hurry, but the eunuch is.”
The whole class burst into laughter.
Chen Yu slammed her desk and stood up. “Xu Yingran, who are you calling a eunuch?!”
Just then, the homeroom teacher walked in from the front door and heard her words. Her face immediately darkened.
“Chen Yu,” the teacher said sternly. “It’s morning self-study. Why are you standing up? Planning to give a lecture?”
Chen Yu sat down reluctantly.
“Who told you to sit?” the teacher barked. “What were you just shouting about? Do you even know what grade you’re in? Who were you arguing with?”
Xu Yingran was just about to stand up when Yao Jin beat her to it. With her usual calm expression, she said, “It was me.”
The teacher paused. She remembered the principal’s instructions clearly—this transfer student, Yao Jin, came from an unusual background. Rumor was, her family donated a whole building to the school. She was definitely from a wealthy and powerful background.
Naturally, the teacher wouldn’t scold Yao Jin. She turned her focus to Chen Yu, frowning. “Of course it was you starting trouble. No more morning class for you. Go stand in the hallway.”
Chen Yu was both shocked and angry. She pointed at Yao Jin. “Why doesn’t *she* have to go?”
“You want to compare yourself to her?” the teacher snapped, slapping the desk. “If you’ve got the guts, compete in academics and exams. Don’t compete over useless things. Still arguing? Take your books and get out!”
The whole class turned to look at Chen Yu. Everyone knew she was wild and didn’t study well. She was a typical troublemaker. Now that she was being scolded by the teacher, most people just enjoyed the drama. Their stares made her very uncomfortable.
But she had no choice. She was still a student. Chen Yu grabbed her books and stormed out the back door.
Many students peeked out to watch her leave.
The teacher knocked on the blackboard in irritation. “What are you looking at? Anyone else who looks can join her outside.”
Once the class quieted down, the teacher said to Yao Jin, “You can sit. But don’t argue with classmates again. It’s your senior year. Focus on your studies. That goes for the rest of you, too. Don’t follow Chen Yu’s example. Do you even want to go to college?”
Using Chen Yu’s incident as a lesson, the teacher gave a five-minute speech before dropping her chalk and telling everyone to start self-study.
As soon as the teacher left, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
“Hey, the new girl’s pretty loyal,” one boy said, clapping. “Like a heroine!”
Yao Jin didn’t react, but Xu Yingran saw the corners of her lips slightly curl up—clearly, she was happy inside.
From the corner of her eye, Xu Yingran noticed that Fu Qiao was staring at her again. There was something unreadable in her expression. Xu Yingran pretended not to see and lowered her head to open her textbook.
Since she had decided not to repeat her old mistakes, she couldn’t give Fu Qiao hope anymore. She had to keep her distance.
Fu Qiao, meanwhile, stared at the girl reading quietly and finally looked down at the transfer request form in front of her.
She had gotten it from the homeroom teacher a few days ago. The teacher had told her to think it over—after all, it was her senior year, and transferring now might hurt her grades. Fu Qiao was a top student, and such a change would definitely affect her.
Her parents’ barbecue business had always been good, and they had saved a lot over the years. Since they didn’t have many expenses, they wanted to buy a house just for Fu Qiao, so she’d always have a home, whether for work or life.
The house was in a new development. It was a 30-minute drive from their old apartment in the factory district. They had also opened two more barbecue shops there, which were indoors, so business wouldn’t be affected by the weather.
Fu Qiao thought, if her parents really moved there, then she would have to go too. Thirty minutes was too far—it made sense to transfer schools.
She hid the transfer form under her books and homework. Truthfully, she really wanted to stay. There was someone she still cared about deeply. But that heartless person didn’t seem to care about her at all…
—
At noon, Xu Yingran took Yao Jin to the nearby food street, and the two of them squeezed into a luosifen shop with Fu Qiao to enjoy the air conditioning.
Creamy Cat really liked Fu Qiao. Even during lunch, it stuck close to her, so much that while the other two had already finished eating, Fu Qiao was still only halfway through.
“We’re running out of time. We need to go,” Xu Yingran glanced at the clock and said to Fu Qiao, “Hurry up and eat. If you don’t want this, I’ll get you a meat pie next door. I don’t want you going hungry.”
Fu Qiao didn’t want to cause trouble, so she quickly grabbed her chopsticks and stuffed all the remaining noodles into her mouth, then drank the spicy, salty soup, feeling like her whole body was on fire.
Seeing her smile, Xu Yingran reached into the fridge behind her and pulled out Fu Qiao’s favorite drink. “Here, drink this. You look like you’re burning up.”
Yao Jin glanced at the two of them and then got up to pay.
Seeing that, Fu Qiao said, “Why’d you pay for everything? We could’ve paid ourselves.”
But Xu Yingran stopped her. “Don’t worry about it. Three bowls of noodles don’t cost much.”
Fu Qiao didn’t agree. “Still, we shouldn’t take advantage of the new student.”
Take advantage of the new student?
Xu Yingran looked amused and turned to Yao Jin. “Ah Jin, are we taking advantage of you?”
Yao Jin, putting away her wallet, said, “Yes.”
Fu Qiao burst out laughing, while Xu Yingran could only sigh helplessly. “Fine, I’ll treat you both to ice cream next time.”
After leaving the shop, Fu Qiao finished her drink and tossed the bottle into a nearby trash can. She followed the other two back to school.
As they passed the crosswalk, Xu Yingran noticed Chen Yu leaning against the wall across the street, chatting with a group of sketchy-looking people.
Since Xu Yingran saw it, of course, so did Yao Jin and Fu Qiao.
Chen Yu had tied her school jacket around her waist and was laughing with those people. When she turned and saw Xu Yingran and the others, she squinted and motioned to her group. They all turned to look at the three girls.
Xu Yingran frowned. She instinctively shielded Fu Qiao behind her. Yao Jin stayed calm, but her tight lips showed she was nervous too.
*Beep-beep-beep—* The red light turned green.
Seeing Chen Yu’s group start to move, Xu Yingran grabbed Fu Qiao’s hand and said to the others, “Don’t provoke them. Let’s go this way.”
Yao Jin agreed, and they quickly walked across the crosswalk toward the school.
As the two groups passed each other, their eyes met. Chen Yu grinned and called out from the middle of the road:
“Let’s see if you’re still so bold after *school*.”
