I Can't Fall for My Own Wife Again After Reincarnation, Right? (GL) - Chapter 11
Chen Yu’s words were like a thorn, piercing the hearts of all three girls. That afternoon, Chen Yu didn’t come to class. The homeroom teacher came by briefly, then left with a sigh. After all, if a student didn’t want to attend school, there wasn’t much the teachers could do besides notifying the parents. But it was obvious Chen Yu was the type whose parents didn’t care. Even as school ended, she still hadn’t shown up.
Fu Qiao felt uneasy all afternoon. During lunch, when the three of them made eye contact with Chen Yu’s group at the crosswalk, her palms had turned cold. Even now, her hands hadn’t warmed up. From time to time, she glanced at Xu Yingran, who sat calmly, taking notes from her textbook like nothing had happened.
**Ring ring ring—**
The bell rang to signal the end of the last class. After assigning homework, the teacher packed up and left. Most of the students breathed a sigh of relief.
“Hey, new transfer student~”
The students sitting near Yao Jin started teasing her.
“Is your driver picking you up again today? Can we see your fancy car?”
Other classmates nearby, who had planned to leave, also came over, playfully draping their arms around each other.
“We want to see it too. I’ve never seen a luxury car before.”
“I heard one car like that can buy a whole house. Is that true?”
“What’s the difference between a car worth a house and a regular taxi?”
Most of the classmates were still very innocent and simple-minded. They crowded around Yao Jin, chattering non-stop. Since school was over, no one was in a rush to go home and do homework. Yao Jin was an interesting topic, especially after she stood up for Xu Yingran that morning—it was clear she was loyal and dependable.
Yao Jin replied with a calm look,
“There’s not much difference. Though, I’ve never ridden in a taxi before.”
“Wow…”
The class erupted again.
Xu Yingran glanced at Yao Jin, whose smug smile was practically wagging like a fox tail. Then she picked up her things and walked to Fu Qiao.
“Don’t walk home with me later,” she said.
Fu Qiao looked up, frowning delicately.
“What are you planning to do? Don’t be reckless.”
Getting into a fight would result in disciplinary action.
“We’re in our final year now. If we can avoid trouble, we should.”
She gently held Xu Yingran’s hand and said softly,
“Let’s just avoid Chen Yu. We can stay in the classroom and do our homework. I don’t think they’ll wait too long.”
But Xu Yingran didn’t agree.
You can hide for a while, but not forever. It was only the beginning of senior year and already she had trouble with a delinquent. If she didn’t handle this now, how would she get through the rest of the year? Besides, Xu Yingran was an adult. Should she really let herself be bullied by an 18-year-old?
“Don’t worry,” Xu Yingran said softly, even though her thoughts were much firmer. “I won’t go looking for trouble.”
Still, Fu Qiao couldn’t relax. What happened at lunch had been so scary, it would probably give her nightmares. Luckily, her parents were lenient. She called home to explain, then looked at Xu Yingran sitting beside her.
“Let’s do our homework first. We can go home after we finish.”
Xu Yingran nodded in agreement.
Senior year homework mostly involved reviewing old material over and over, so they were given lots of practice sheets. It looked like a lot, but it wasn’t too hard. If a question was difficult, they just skipped it. As for the essay and extra questions at the end, it all depended on luck.
The two girls sat close together, quietly doing their homework. Fu Qiao was very careful, reading each question two or three times and only writing once she was sure of the answer. So she moved slower than Xu Yingran, who was already halfway through her second worksheet when Fu Qiao finished her first.
Most of the students had already gone. The hallway was empty and the whole school had gone from noisy to quiet.
“Why are you so fast?”
Fu Qiao rested her chin on her pen cap and peeked under Xu Yingran’s arm at her worksheet.
“Why did you leave so many questions blank? You don’t know how to answer them?”
Xu Yingran glanced at her and smiled.
“It’s not that I don’t know… they’re just hard, and I don’t feel like thinking.”
Fu Qiao sighed helplessly.
“Well, finish the easy ones first. You can go back to the rest later.”
She turned her head to look outside. From their classroom, she could see all the way to the school gate. The autumn days were getting shorter, and although it was only just past 7 PM, it was already getting dark. The students who had been playing basketball on the field were now packing up to go home. The setting sun cast long shadows, and the students walking under the trees looked like they were merging with the thick branches.
Fu Qiao got a bit lost watching them. When Xu Yingran finished the second page of her worksheet and looked up, she saw Fu Qiao zoning out.
The golden glow of the sunset spilled in, forming a soft halo around Fu Qiao. Her bright and clear eyes slowly turned back toward Xu Yingran, who couldn’t help but feel her heart skip a beat.
Fu Qiao was so fair and beautiful. Her youthful face was pure and lovely, and Xu Yingran couldn’t look away.
Before, she had only thought of Fu Qiao as her beautiful, sweet, well-mannered childhood friend. She’d never had any improper thoughts.
But now it was different.
Fu Qiao was her wife. They had been through ten long years of love and marriage. Any childhood friendship had long since faded. Looking at her now, only one thought filled Xu Yingran’s mind:
**My wife is so beautiful.**
Feeling moved, Xu Yingran couldn’t help but say,
“Wife…”
Fu Qiao blinked in surprise.
“What did you call me?”
Xu Yingran opened her mouth to explain, but just then—
**Knock knock knock—**
Their homeroom teacher stood at the door, looking at the two of them still in the classroom.
“What are you two still doing here? It’s already this late!”
Xu Yingran’s face turned red immediately, like she’d just been caught in a school romance. She didn’t know what to do.
Fu Qiao, on the other hand, stayed calm. She stood up and said,
“We were doing homework, Ms. Li.”
Ms. Li Yuwen looked down and saw two worksheets laid out on the desks. She nodded and softened her tone.
“You can do homework at home too. It’s late. Your families will worry.”
Fu Qiao nodded.
“Yes, teacher. We’ll pack up and go now.”
After Ms. Li left, Fu Qiao turned to Xu Yingran and said,
“Let’s go.”
Xu Yingran thought for a moment, then nodded.
They packed up and left the building. The school was almost empty now, and the sky was growing darker. Fu Qiao stood by the gate for a long while, carefully scanning around. Only when she confirmed that Chen Yu and her group weren’t there did she call Xu Yingran over.
Seeing how cautious Fu Qiao was, Xu Yingran couldn’t help but laugh.
“Why are you so scared? They’re not going to eat me, you know.”
Fu Qiao didn’t agree.
“It’s best not to get into a fight. If you lose, you end up in the hospital. If you win, you go to jail. Either way, it’s bad.”
Xu Yingran grinned.
“But what if there’s a way where I don’t get hurt and I don’t go to jail?”
Fu Qiao was just about to ask what she meant when a sharp whistle came from the alley.
“So you finally came out, huh?”
Chen Yu showed up, her school uniform tied around her waist like always. A few unhappy-looking people stood behind her.
Fu Qiao had never seen a situation like this before. She was still frozen when Xu Yingran quickly pulled her aside.
Chen Yu glanced at Fu Qiao. She naturally disliked students who did well in school. She always felt those kinds of people were annoying. If it weren’t for them being held up as role models, would she have been scolded so much by teachers and parents? If everyone did poorly in school, no one would single her out.
So Chen Yu hated Fu Qiao just as much as she hated Xu Yingran. She couldn’t stand the “perfect kid” type.
Xu Yingran noticed the anger in Chen Yu’s eyes and stepped forward to block her view of Fu Qiao. She frowned and said,
“Chen Yu, is this really worth getting people to block me over? And in this heat, you didn’t even buy your friends a cold drink?”
Chen Yu turned her full attention to Xu Yingran and said with annoyance,
“Wow, look at you talking big. Why don’t *you* buy us drinks instead?”
Xu Yingran smiled.
“Why should I? I don’t even know you.”
“Well, you don’t now, but we can get to know each other.”
Chen Yu walked closer and said,
“I heard your family’s rich. Lend us some money to have fun.”
“Who told you that?” Xu Yingran replied. “Even if I had money, I wouldn’t give it to you.”
There was no turning back after that.
And honestly, Chen Yu had never intended to be friendly. Her expression darkened, and she snarled just like she had at lunch.
“If you’re going to talk like that, then we won’t be polite.”
“Sasha, Kun-ge,” she called without turning her head.
“This girl annoys me at school. Help your sister out today, will you?”
Xu Yingran stuffed her bag into Fu Qiao’s arms and told her,
“Stay back.”
“Xu Yingran…” Fu Qiao frowned, glancing at the school. Maybe there was still time to run and call security?
Just as Xu Yingran was about to roll up her sleeves and take on the three of them alone, she caught something out of the corner of her eye—
A few black sedans had pulled up nearby. Four or five muscular men in camouflage uniforms stepped out of each one. Their powerful physiques were intimidating.
The men walked straight toward them, forming a small group of more than ten people. The man in front had a buzz cut and a scar on his eyebrow. He looked over the group of students and asked,
“Which one of you is Xu Yingran?”
