I Can't Fall for My Own Wife Again After Reincarnation, Right? (GL) - Chapter 12
Just as Xu Yingran was about to start a fight, someone interrupted her. She was a bit confused. When she turned around, she saw a group of strong, burly men. Most of them looked to be in their twenties or thirties, the kind who could send someone to the hospital with a single punch.
Chen Yu was clearly frightened too. She instinctively pointed at Xu Yingran and said, “It’s her.”
“You’re Xu Yingran?” the man with a buzz cut asked coldly. His eyes were full of hostility as he looked at her. Then he said, “We were hired to help you deal with some trouble.”
After speaking, he glanced back at Chen Yu and her group of friends. Calmly, he clenched his fists. “Is it them?”
Xu Yingran had a vague idea of what was going on. She asked, “Has the payment been made?”
The buzz-cut man replied, “Of course. The contract’s already signed.”
“Good,” Xu Yingran said, feeling relieved. She looked at the terrified Chen Yu and said, “Then go ahead and do as the contract says.”
Chen Yu watched as the group of men pushed into the narrow alley. Her face turned pale. But it was a dead-end alley, and there was no way to escape once you were inside. Soon, the big, strong men—who looked like special forces—were blocking the way. Chen Yu was so scared she almost fainted.
“Xu Yingran, I was wrong, I swear! I won’t cause you any more trouble! Please, tell them not to hurt me!” Chen Yu cried, her voice shaking.
Xu Yingran looked indifferent and didn’t respond. But Fu Qiao started to feel a bit sorry for Chen Yu. Holding both of their schoolbags, she nervously said, “Xu Yingran, you…”
“Don’t worry,” Xu Yingran said, glancing into the alley before looking back at Fu Qiao. “Bad people will get what they deserve. You don’t need to feel sorry for them.”
“I’m worried about *you*,” Fu Qiao said, pulling on the corner of Xu Yingran’s school uniform. “What if someone really gets hurt? Chen Yu’s parents won’t let you go.”
Xu Yingran just smiled and gently bent her index finger to tap the tip of Fu Qiao’s nose. In a soft voice, she said, “Don’t worry. Those guys know what they’re doing.”
About ten minutes later, the group of men walked out of the alley. Chen Yu’s so-called ‘friends’ ran away as soon as they got out. She was left trembling like a little chick. When she saw Xu Yingran and Fu Qiao, she lowered her head and said softly, “S-Sorry. I promise I won’t mess with you again. I’ll stay far away whenever I see you.”
Xu Yingran glanced at her casually and said, “Is that how you apologize?”
Terrified, Chen Yu looked at the men beside her, her eyes red with tears. She took two steps forward and grabbed Xu Yingran’s sleeve. “I’ll go tell the teacher and the principal what happened. I’ll write a self-reflection and read it out loud in front of the whole school. Please, forgive me.”
No one knew what those men had said to Chen Yu, but all her arrogance was gone. She was like a deflated little hen, completely dazed.
Xu Yingran stared at her and thought for a while. She could clearly feel Chen Yu’s nervousness during the silence. After thinking it over, she finally said, “This isn’t something I can decide right away. I need to think about it. Come find me tomorrow morning.”
When she heard that it would be delayed until the next morning, Chen Yu was even more terrified. But looking at the big men behind her, she didn’t dare say no. She just nodded quickly like a little chick.
The buzz-cut man understood what Xu Yingran meant. She was giving Chen Yu a real lesson—letting her stay scared all night would be more effective than agreeing on the spot. So he patted Chen Yu on the shoulder and said in a rough voice, “You heard her. You’ll get your answer tomorrow. If you try anything stupid before then, it won’t end with just a warning like today.”
Chen Yu kept nodding. Only then did the buzz-cut guy let her go. As soon as he released her, Chen Yu ran faster than a rabbit and disappeared in seconds.
The buzz-cut man, who had looked serious the whole time, now smiled as he turned to Xu Yingran. “Miss Xu, we’ve handled the problem for now. According to the contract, if anything like this happens again this week, just contact us. Our security company is always ready.”
Xu Yingran took the business card he handed her. When she saw the name “Li Qiang Security Company,” she raised an eyebrow and asked, “Who’s the one who hired you?”
The man didn’t answer.
But then she heard a car door close behind her. Turning around, she saw Yao Jin step out of a black Maybach. She was wearing the same school uniform but had her hands in her pockets, looking all cool and confident with her chin slightly raised.
Xu Yingran wasn’t surprised to see Yao Jin. She just turned to the still-confused Fu Qiao and said, “Let’s go. Looks like we’ve got a ride today.”
It was Fu Qiao’s first time in a luxury car, and she felt very awkward. The spacious back seat even let her stretch her legs straight out—something she couldn’t even imagine in a taxi or van. The air conditioning was comfortable, and the leather seats were soft.
Xu Yingran sat in the front passenger seat, giving directions to the driver toward Old Street. Yao Jin sat in the back with her arms crossed, calmly watching the unfamiliar view outside the window.
Old Street was very narrow. A Maybach couldn’t even get through, and just parking on the side of the road was risky—it might get scratched. So Xu Yingran told the driver to stop in front of a hotel a bit further away. The three of them got out of the car there.
“Jin helped us a lot today. Let’s treat her to dinner,” Xu Yingran said. It was already dark, and she figured Yao Jin must’ve waited in the car since school ended. Plus, she hired the security company—whether emotionally or logically, they owed her a meal.
It was Yao Jin’s first time in Old Street. She frowned when she saw street vendors crowding the sidewalks. Her first impression of Old Street was that it was dirty, messy, and unhygienic.
“Don’t mind the hygiene here. Some of the street food is actually really good,” Xu Yingran told her.
Hearing that, Fu Qiao turned around and said to them, “Let’s eat at my house. There should still be seats available at this time.”
“Sounds good,” Xu Yingran smiled. “But don’t let your parents take the loss. We’ll pay for whatever we eat.”
Fu Qiao glanced at her. “Fine. The money stays in the family. But do you even have money?”
“I still have some pocket money,” Xu Yingran replied, her eyes curving into a smile. She pulled her wallet from her backpack and said, “Today, this young lady is treating you both to barbecue!”
