I Can't Fall for My Own Wife Again After Reincarnation, Right? (GL) - Chapter 17
The moment the Principal stepped out, the entire office turned their attention toward him.
Chen Yu’s mother was still making a scene, ready to pounce on anyone who looked like they were in charge, but she was grabbed by a quiet man who had been standing silently nearby. With a swift backhand, he slapped her, leaving her stunned.
“Oh my,” Li Yuwen remarked. “Why resort to violence all of a sudden?”
Though she said this, she didn’t even shift in her seat, while Xu Yingran stood by, watching the commotion with detached amusement.
Chen Yu’s mother froze in shock, clutching her face before bursting into tears and running out. No one in the office made a move to stop her, and for once, the room fell into silence.
The Principal took a seat and said to Chen Yu’s father, “It’s better that the noisy one is gone. Everyone, take a seat, Xu Yingran, you too. Let’s have a proper discussion about this matter.”
At this, the office staff quickly dispersed, some went to supervise morning self-study, others carried their lesson plans elsewhere, clearing the space for Xu Yingran and the others.
Chen Yu’s father looked around awkwardly before timidly sitting down, nervously rubbing his hands together.
“Xu Yingran, regarding what happened with our Chen Yu… please don’t hold it against her,” Chen Yu’s father said softly. No wonder his wife had been so hysterical.
Xu Yingran sat calmly in her chair, giving him a measured look before replying, “Chen Yu has always been like this at school. If I let her off today, she’ll just bully someone else tomorrow.”
Chen Yu’s father opened his mouth to protest, but the Principal cut in, “I’m already aware of the situation. Since Chen Yu herself insisted on facing appropriate disciplinary action, we’ve considered it and agree. If we ignore small issues now, by the time they escalate, it’ll be too late to intervene. Don’t you think so, parent?”
Under the Principal’s steady gaze, Chen Yu’s father couldn’t muster a single word, though his face twisted with distress.
“Writing a self-criticism was Chen Yu’s own request. Xu Yingran hasn’t done anything wrong, so don’t pressure her,” the said before turning to Xu Yingran. “However, Chen Yu’s family would like to ask for your forgiveness. What do you think?”
Xu Yingran thought for a moment before answering seriously, “I don’t have any other demands. Just let Chen Yu face the consequences she asked for, the disciplinary action and reading her self-criticism.”
“What about compensation?”
“I don’t need money.”
The Principal looked at Xu Yingran with admiration. “You really are a good kid,” he said with a sigh. Then, turning back to Chen Yu’s father, he asked, “What’s your stance on this?”
Left with no choice, Chen Yu’s father finally nodded in agreement.
Afterward, the Principal and Chen Yu’s father worked out the details, settling the matter once and for all.
As for whether Chen Yu was genuinely sick or just faking it, no one cared anymore.
The whole incident had taken up the entire morning self-study session. Once everyone had left, Li Yuwen turned to Xu Yingran and asked, “Should we inform your parents about this?”
Xu Yingran shook her head. “Since it’s already resolved, there’s no need to tell them.”
Even if Chen Yu never bothered her again, this was still a case of school bullying. If her parents found out, they would surely worry even more. Xu Yingran was already an adult now, capable of handling her own affairs well, and she didn’t want her parents to face any more troubles.
Leaving the office, Xu Yingran saw Fu Qiao standing anxiously in the hallway, waiting for her.
The moment Fu Qiao spotted Xu Yingran, she hurried over, grabbing her sleeve and asking urgently, “What did the teacher say to you? Why did it take so long?”
“It’s nothing.”
Xu Yingran smiled at her worried expression. “It was just about Chen Yu. I went to explain the situation, nothing serious.”
Fu Qiao frowned. “Chen Yu didn’t come to school today. During morning self-study, I heard someone ran off crying, apparently Chen Yu’s mom. Is that true?”
Xu Yingran had no reason to hide it from her and nodded lightly.
Even though Fu Qiao had ignored her the whole way back last night because of her drunkenness, the moment she saw Xu Yingran in trouble, she was still the first to rush to her side.
Looking at Fu Qiao’s concerned expression, Xu Yingran suddenly felt a pang in her heart.
Where would she ever find such a good wife in the future?
But the thought of her future impoverished life made Xu Yingran’s heart skip a beat.
Fu Qiao’s brows remained tightly furrowed after learning about the incident with Chen Yu, her fair little face looking deeply troubled. Xu Yingran helplessly reached out and patted her forehead.
“Alright, it’s not that big of a deal,” Xu Yingran reassured her. “Let’s head back to the classroom. The first class is about to start.”
Fu Qiao nodded, and as the two walked toward the classroom, they spotted Yao Jin, who was late and just arriving with her backpack.
Yao Jin had clearly just arrived, she rarely ever came late and was visibly flustered, panting from running all the way from the school gate. Just as she was about to enter the classroom, she noticed the two coming from the teacher’s office.
“Jin?”
Xu Yingran grinned mischievously at her. “You’re just getting here now?”
Yao Jin looked awkwardly at the two, her face reddening. “I had something to take care of at home. I already asked the homeroom teacher for leave during morning self-study, it doesn’t count as being late.”
“Sure, sure. You were just hungover, and we won’t tell anyone,” Xu Yingran said, slinging an arm around her. “Since you’re here, I’ve got something to tell you…”
Fu Qiao watched their intimate interaction and felt an inexplicable sense of loss.
She looked at Xu Yingran, laughing carefreely, and remembered what she had said that morning, how last night, on the way home, she had clung to her, trying to kiss her, calling her “wife” over and over, only to wake up the next day and claim she had mistaken her for someone else.
So who was the person Xu Yingran truly had in mind?
Fu Qiao wondered, was it someone she knew, or a stranger?
What was that person like?
From the way Xu Yingran had drunkenly spoken, it seemed like the other person was strict with her, yet Xu Yingran didn’t seem to dislike them.
So… did Xu Yingran really like her?
Fu Qiao’s steps slowed the more she thought. Watching Xu Yingran walking ahead, arm in arm with Yao Jin, she suddenly realized that even though they spent every day together, she didn’t really know Xu Yingran that well, she hadn’t even noticed when she had fallen for someone else.
Xu Yingran was talking to Yao Jin when she noticed someone was missing beside her. Turning her head, she saw Fu Qiao following behind, lost in thought, her pale face growing even more colorless.
“What’s wrong?” Xu Yingran stopped and looked back at her, puzzled.
Fu Qiao snapped out of her daze slightly, shook her head, and quickly caught up. “It’s nothing,” she said. “Let’s hurry back to the classroom.”
