I Can't Fall for My Own Wife Again After Reincarnation, Right? (GL) - Chapter 28
Yao Jin’s driver took the three of them to the designated location. Since it was the weekend, the traffic wasn’t particularly bad, and the three of them sat in the car calmly discussing their plans.
“Two broadcasting classes in the morning, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with a 20-minute break in between.”
Fu Qiao read the message Zhou Wan had sent her the day before from her phone. Although the school didn’t allow students to bring phones, most high schoolers rarely followed such rules strictly.
It was the weekend, so none of them were wearing their school uniforms. Xu Yingran was dressed in a plain white T-shirt, jeans, and sneakers, simple and casual.
Yao Jin, on the other hand, wore a black women’s polo shirt and a black pleated skirt, with a silver-white belt around her waist adorned with a few silver accessories. Her shoes and socks were also black, giving her the look of a cool, rebellious girl.
Fu Qiao was dressed in a cartoon T-shirt and overall shorts. Her fair, slender legs, pale from years of wearing school uniforms, practically glowed. Xu Yingran, sitting beside her, couldn’t help but glance at them repeatedly throughout the ride.
After hearing the class schedule Fu Qiao read out, Yao Jin remarked, “That’s quite long. Is that two classes?”
“Yes,” Fu Qiao replied from the back seat. “Only two classes a week.”
“With just two classes, what can you even learn?” Yao Jin asked skeptically.
Fu Qiao wasn’t sure either, but since they were already here, they might as well go with the flow. They’d find out what the classes were like once they attended the trial session.
The training center was located in a building downtown. There was no dedicated parking lot at the entrance, so the driver dropped the three of them off at the door before going to find a parking spot. Yao Jin could call him back when they needed a ride later.
The sun was shining brightly today. Fu Qiao adjusted her sun hat before entering the building with Xu Yingran and the others.
Inside the lobby, there were six elevators on either side. Xu Yingran glanced around and realized that the building was mostly filled with training centers.
“Students’ money is so easy to make these days,” Xu Yingran mused as she pressed the elevator button. Turning to Fu Qiao, she asked, “It’s the 23rd floor, right?”
“Yeah,” Fu Qiao confirmed after checking Zhou Wan’s message again and nodded.
Perhaps because the building was full of tutoring centers, the elevator area quickly filled with students carrying backpacks within a minute.
Some of them looked like high school or college students, while others appeared to be elementary schoolers. Most were either carrying backpacks or holding items like musical instruments, art boards, and other things Xu Yingran couldn’t name.
Ding,
The elevator doors slid open, and Xu Yingran pulled Fu Qiao inside with her. Yao Jin pressed the floor button and stood with them.
Students outside began crowding in as soon as the elevator arrived. Everything was fine at first, but then a boy carrying a cello squeezed in, making the already cramped space even tighter.
The cello case bumped into Fu Qiao’s hat with a thud. The boy quickly apologized, “Sorry about that.”
Fu Qiao straightened her tilted hat and softly replied, “It’s fine,” just as the elevator doors slowly closed.
The cello was really taking up a lot of space, even when held in the boy’s arms, it occupied a considerable area. Seeing Fu Qiao leaning against the elevator wall, Xu Yingran reached out and tugged at her, signaling for her to move closer.
Every time someone exited the elevator, the boy carrying the cello had to step out first and then back in, which was quite a hassle.
Yao Jin couldn’t help but glance over and remark, “Learning a musical instrument really isn’t easy.”
The young man gave a wry smile. “It’s alright.”
When they reached the 23rd floor, the three of them got off, and Fu Qiao let out a long sigh of relief.
“Which way do we go?” Yao Jin looked around, unsure of the direction.
Fu Qiao pulled out her phone to check before leading the other two down the left corridor to a broadcasting training institution. After stating their purpose, the receptionist escorted them to a small classroom.
The room had only four or five rows of desks, seating about a dozen people at most. The receptionist explained, “We don’t have dedicated trial classes for broadcasting. You can just join in for one session.”
“Alright.”
The three of them took seats in the back row. After collecting their registration details, the receptionist left.
Yao Jin leaned back in her chair, arms crossed, and glanced at the empty podium. “Seems pretty underwhelming,” she muttered.
What she really meant was that it was a waste of time, she’d rather go home and do a couple more test papers.
Fu Qiao, however, didn’t share her opinion. She looked around curiously and even texted Zhou Wan to say she’d arrived.
Zhou Wan replied quickly, saying she was already downstairs and would be up soon.
By around 8:30, students began trickling in, and Zhou Wan appeared at the classroom door with her backpack. Spotting the trio in the back row, she walked over.
The sudden appearance of three unfamiliar faces drew curious glances from many students, who turned to look.
Zhou Wan greeted them cheerfully, “Hello, seniors!”
Though she hadn’t met Yao Jin before, Fu Qiao had mentioned in her messages that someone would accompany her, so Zhou Wan warmly acknowledged the other two as well.
Yao Jin gave a perfunctory nod, while Xu Yingran, still holding a grudge, responded with a quiet “Mm.” Only Fu Qiao smiled warmly and pulled Zhou Wan to sit beside her, chatting animatedly.
“There aren’t assigned seats in this class, you can sit wherever you like,” Zhou Wan told Fu Qiao. “I usually sit in the third row, but today I can sit with you guys.”
Fu Qiao smiled. “Won’t that distract you during class?”
“Don’t worry about it, senior. I do well in broadcasting, even the teacher praises me,” Zhou Wan assured her. “Feel free to ask me anything. The teacher here is really nice.”
Fu Qiao nodded and took out a notebook and pen from her bag, making the other two seem particularly idle in comparison.
The instructor was young, likely fresh out of university, and taught in a relaxed manner. Unfazed by the three trial students, he carried on with the lesson as usual.
Whenever it came to learning, Fu Qiao was always very serious. In the broadcasting class, students were asked to go up and read randomly assigned news scripts. Fu Qiao volunteered to give it a try and did quite well, even earning praise from the teacher for her clear and pleasant voice.
Yao Jin remained her usual laid-back self, propping her head up as she watched Fu Qiao on the podium. She nudged Xu Yingran beside her with her knee and said, “You think she’s actually serious about pursuing this path?”
Xu Yingran, however, was watching intently, her gaze lingering on Fu Qiao’s face. It was clear that Fu Qiao genuinely enjoyed the class.
“Maybe,” Xu Yingran replied lightly.
After the class ended, the three of them went to the front desk during the break to ask for an application form.
The moment Fu Qiao saw the price on the form, she froze. On average, it would cost over 2,000 yuan per month, with each session costing around 700 to 800 yuan.
So expensive!
“Are there any cheaper courses?” Fu Qiao knew these kinds of classes would be pricey, but this was way beyond her expectations.
How could an ordinary high school student like her afford this?
“The class you just attended is actually one of the more affordable options. We also offer small-group courses with better teaching results.”
Fu Qiao hesitated, staring at the numbers before finally saying to the staff, “Can I take this form home to think about it?”
“Of course,” the staff member replied without pressuring her to pay a deposit right away. Instead, they handed Fu Qiao a brochure for the small-group courses, suggesting she discuss it with her parents.
By the time they left the building, it was just past 10 a.m.
Fu Qiao carried a small gift bag from the training center, filled with a discount card for enrollment, a fan and a sun hat bearing the center’s logo, along with various application forms and brochures.
Xu Yingran checked the time and asked the other two, “Should we head back now, or find somewhere to sit for a while?”
“We barely get out like this, no need to rush back,” Yao Jin said casually. “Let’s go to the shopping mall across the street. We can walk around and grab lunch later.”
Xu Yingran had no objections. Noticing Fu Qiao’s lack of enthusiasm, she lowered her voice and asked, “Are you hot? How about we get some cold drinks?”
Fu Qiao snapped out of her thoughts, not wanting to dampen the mood, and nodded.
They ordered three cold drinks on the first floor of the mall. Xu Yingran led them to a corner where they could enjoy the air conditioning. Yao Jin sipped on her iced coffee with whipped cream, while Xu Yingran and Fu Qiao both had milk tea.
Xu Yingran then went back to the counter and ordered a summer cherry blossom soft-serve cone, carefully wrapping the cone in a napkin before handing it to Fu Qiao.
Fu Qiao, who had been drinking her milk tea, blinked in surprise at the pink ice cream placed in front of her.
“I remember you like this, right? They still had the summer special, so I got one for you to try,” Xu Yingran said gently.
“Thank you,” Fu Qiao replied, taking the cone and biting into it. The creamy sweetness of the ice cream, infused with the delicate flavor of cherry blossoms, made her eyes light up in delight.
Yao Jin pouted. “I want one too.”
Xu Yingran shot her a glance. “What do you mean, you want one? What’s it got to do with you?”
Yao Jin set down her iced coffee. “Why does Fu Qiao get a cone and I don’t? I want one too.”
Xu Yingran could tell, Yao Jin was just bored and being difficult.
Fine, fine, if she couldn’t handle the situation, couldn’t she just buy her way out of it?
Xu Yingran got up again and bought two more ice cream cones, one for herself and one for Yao Jin, so now all three of them had one, and no one could snatch from anyone else.
“Childish,” Xu Yingran scolded Yao Jin while eating her cone.
Yao Jin, thrilled to have gotten a free ice cream, squinted her eyes happily, looking as if her tail would be wagging if she had one.
Fu Qiao, who had been lost in thought, was interrupted by their antics and couldn’t help laughing. “You two are really rowdy, even fighting over ice cream.”
Xu Yingran said, “It’s not me who started it, it was her.”
Yao Jin, however, lazily stuck out her tongue for a teasing lick, full of provocation.
After all the lively commotion, Xu Yingran couldn’t be bothered to argue with Yao Jin anymore. Once they finished their cones, the three of them found themselves with nothing to do.
Yao Jin was still fiddling with her phone, while Xu Yingran bit down on her coffee straw and glanced at Fu Qiao. “Have you really decided to take the art school entrance exam?”
Yao: Why do others get ice cream and I don’t? I want one too, I want one too, I want one too!
Xu: Childish!
