I Can't Fall for My Own Wife Again After Reincarnation, Right? (GL) - Chapter 32
“Fu Qiao!”
Xu Yingran caught up from behind, calling out to Fu Qiao, “Where are you going?”
Fu Qiao and Zhou Wan turned around at the sound of her voice, surprised to see her sweating profusely. “Why are you running like this?” they asked.
Panting heavily, Xu Yingran placed her hands on her hips and glanced at their intertwined hands. It felt like her jealousy had been kicked over, bubbling up uncontrollably.
“You still haven’t answered me. What are you doing?” Xu Yingran couldn’t stand seeing them holding hands and reached out to pull Fu Qiao over.
“Zhou Wan invited me to play volleyball over there,” Fu Qiao said, feeling a bit uneasy as Xu Yingran gripped her arm.
Whether it was because Xu Yingran had just run too hard or something else, Fu Qiao noticed her hand was unusually warm, almost like a small furnace.
Xu Yingran frowned at Fu Qiao’s words. “You’re a senior, and she’s a sophomore. Why would you go play volleyball with them? If you like volleyball, Yao Jin and I can play with you.”
“But aren’t you two playing badminton?” Fu Qiao looked at her, puzzled. “Badminton isn’t a three-person game. And even if we played volleyball, we’d still be short one person. What’s the difference?”
“How is there no difference?”
There was a huge difference!
Anything involving Zhou Wan made a world of difference!
Xu Yingran now thought Yao Jin’s suggestion was perfect, they could play badminton while she fetched the shuttlecock.
Zhou Wan, seeing the two of them arguing, awkwardly smiled and said to Xu Yingran, “Senior, don’t be so harsh. I only invited Fu Qiao because no one was playing with her.”
Xu Yingran glared back. “Who said no one was playing with her? We were in the middle of a game.”
With that, she tried to pull Fu Qiao back, but Fu Qiao broke free.
Xu Yingran stared in disbelief. Her own wife had broken away from her, because of Zhou Wan?
Fu Qiao, oblivious to Xu Yingran’s expression, rubbed her wrist and moved closer to Zhou Wan. “You and Yao Jin go play badminton. I’ll be fine playing volleyball with Zhou Wan. And stop being so harsh.”
Xu Yingran was stunned again.
Harsh?
How was she harsh???
How was she harsh at all!!!!!
Zhou Wan forced a laugh and said to Xu Yingran, “Well, Senior, we’ll be going now.”
As Fu Qiao walked off with Zhou Wan, Xu Yingran stood there fuming, hands on her hips. After a moment, she decided she couldn’t let Fu Qiao and Zhou Wan be alone together and hurried after them.
She saw Zhou Wan lead Fu Qiao to the volleyball court, where two others were already waiting. They greeted Fu Qiao and Zhou Wan warmly, and the four of them chatted happily.
Xu Yingran stood unhappily to the side, sitting under a tree as she watched Fu Qiao and Zhou Wan play volleyball.
Yao Jin finally arrived with badminton rackets in hand, sighing as she leaned against the tree. “What’s wrong with you? You were gone for so long, I had to come find you myself.” She noticed Xu Yingran’s gaze fixed on Fu Qiao and shook her head.
Xu Yingran didn’t even turn her head when she spotted Fu Qiao standing on the volleyball court, eyes fixed on the bouncing ball. As Fu Qiao jumped to receive it, a flash of pale, slender waist peeked out from beneath her uniform.
The blue-and-white school uniform wasn’t particularly loose-fitting. Normally, it didn’t show much, but now with Fu Qiao’s movements, Xu Yingran’s gaze was involuntarily drawn to the curve of her chest and that occasional glimpse of fair skin at her waist.
How could her wife be so beautiful?
Xu Yingran was practically entranced, so much so that she didn’t hear Yao Jin calling from behind her. Instead, she noticed Fu Qiao suddenly looking surprised and taking a few quick steps in her direction.
Just as Xu Yingran was wondering what was happening, something hard smacked against her head with a loud “thud.” Before she knew it, a stray ball had knocked her clean off her feet, sending her sprawling onto the ground.
Only after she’d been hit did Xu Yingran finally make out someone shouting, “Ball!”
What kind of warning was that? Who yells “ball” after it’s already been kicked?!
Within moments, a crowd had gathered around Xu Yingran, everyone chattering nervously as they looked down at her sprawled on the ground. Fu Qiao rushed over in a panic, immediately lifting Xu Yingran’s hair to check the damage. “Where did it hit you? Does it hurt? Should we take you to the infirmary?”
At that moment, Xu Yingran could only feel a throbbing pain at her temples, her hearing muffled as if underwater. She vaguely registered Fu Qiao holding her, her lips moving as she spoke, though the words were lost to her.
Xu Yingran tried to respond, but she couldn’t make out what Fu Qiao was saying. It took her a long moment to finally regain her senses.
The high school P.E. teacher, noticing the commotion, hurried over. After a quick examination, he turned and scolded, “Who kicked that volleyball? Don’t you know better than to send balls flying like that?!”
No one dared to answer. Fu Qiao, still holding Xu Yingran, asked anxiously, “Teacher, what should we do? Does she need to go to the hospital?”
“Don’t panic yet. Let me see.” The P.E. teacher checked Xu Yingran again and, seeing she was just a bit dazed from the impact, said to Fu Qiao, “Take her to the infirmary first and let the school nurse examine her. I don’t see any external injuries, but if it’s serious, she might need an X-ray.”
At the mention of an X-ray, Xu Yingran weakly waved her hand. “No, no, I’m just a little dizzy. It’s nothing serious.”
Fu Qiao wasn’t convinced, cupping Xu Yingran’s face worriedly. “No, we should still get you checked out.”
Xu Yingran was starting to feel a bit better, and seeing Fu Qiao so concerned warmed her heart. But the moment she tried to smile, the muscles near her temples twinged painfully, twisting her expression into something strange.
Yao Jin, who had been crouching nearby, calmly suggested, “Let’s go to the infirmary first and see what the nurse says.”
Everyone agreed, and together they helped Xu Yingran to the infirmary.
The school nurse had Xu Yingran lie down and gave her a thorough examination, even shining a light into her pupils to check her reactions.
Truthfully, Xu Yingran was already recovering. The walk over had cleared her head, she’d just been stunned by the initial impact. Now that she’d shaken it off, she was fine.
After examining her, the school doctor put away the instruments and said to the P.E. teacher, “There’s nothing serious, everything seems normal. If you’re still worried, she can stay here for observation for a while. If she still feels unwell after class, we can send her to the hospital.”
Xu Yingran lay on the bed, her eyes darting around. She found Fu Qiao’s focused expression as she listened to the school doctor utterly adorable and couldn’t resist holding her hand.
Feeling Xu Yingran’s grip, Fu Qiao turned around and bent down, looking at her with concern. “Are you okay? Do you still feel unwell?” she asked.
Xu Yingran shook her head and replied softly, “I’m fine, just a little dizzy.”
Her words were three parts truth and seven parts exaggeration, she just wanted Fu Qiao to stay with her a little longer.
As expected, Fu Qiao didn’t suspect anything. Hearing this, she grew anxious and ended up staying with Xu Yingran in the infirmary while Yao Jin went to ask for leave on her behalf. Zhou Wan and the other high school sophomores were taken back by their P.E. teacher.
The world suddenly became quiet.
Fu Qiao sat by the bed, holding Xu Yingran’s hand. The two simply gazed at each other, with Fu Qiao occasionally whispering questions about where she felt uncomfortable. Xu Yingran avoided giving straight answers, just lying there.
Sometimes she complained of dizziness, other times of thirst, and occasionally of a slight headache.
Her palms hurt, her elbows hurt, she needed kisses and hugs to feel better.
Seeing that Xu Yingran was likely fine, the school doctor said to Fu Qiao, “Classmate, keep an eye on her for now. I have other things to attend to. If anything else comes up, come find me.”
Fu Qiao nodded. “Yes, teacher.”
Before leaving, the school doctor thoughtfully drew the curtain, dividing the small infirmary into two spaces. Though cramped, it was just enough for a bed and a chair.
Xu Yingran remained lying down, staring intently at Fu Qiao, who eventually grew flustered under the gaze.
“Why do you keep looking at me like that?” Fu Qiao asked, puzzled.
Xu Yingran blinked. “No reason. Just looking at you.”
She recalled the glimpse of Fu Qiao’s slender, pale waist during the volleyball game and the way she had leaped into the air. Looking back, how had she never noticed how good Fu Qiao’s figure was at this age?
Probably because the ugly school uniform hid her shape, and since Fu Qiao rarely wore casual clothes, Xu Yingran had never known what lay beneath.
Then she remembered last Saturday at the tutoring class, when Fu Qiao had worn shorts, revealing those long, fair legs, it had made Xu Yingran’s heart itch even more.
She wondered when Fu Qiao would finally confess to her…
Lost in thought, Xu Yingran suddenly asked, “Fu Qiao, do you like anyone?”
Fu Qiao gave her a curious look. “Why ask that all of a sudden?”
“Just bored, making conversation,” Xu Yingran lied.
Fu Qiao thought for a moment, then shook her head. “No. We’re in our final year of high school now. Studies should come first. Feelings aren’t really important anyway.”
Xu Yingran fell silent, secretly thinking: Even now, Fu Qiao still wants to keep it from me? Fine, I’ll wait until the day she brings me a pink love letter and confesses.
The two of them casually chatted about other things for a while before Xu Yingran started feeling sleepy. Holding Fu Qiao’s hand, she soon fell asleep.
When she woke up again, she found that the person sitting beside her was no longer Fu Qiao but Yao Jin.
Yao Jin was still fiddling with her phone when she noticed Xu Yingran waking up from the corner of her eye. She remarked, “Did you know you snore when you sleep?”
Xu Yingran: “?”
“Impossible,” Xu Yingran said. “I never snore when I sleep.”
Only then did she realize Yao Jin was teasing her. Annoyed, she snapped, “Where’s Fu Qiao? Wasn’t she sitting next to me before I fell asleep?”
“So you do remember falling asleep?” Yao Jin put away her phone and looked at her with amusement. “Fu Qiao went to the cafeteria to get food. She’ll be back soon and asked me to keep an eye on you for a bit. Who knew you’d wake up right after she left?”
Xu Yingran sat up in bed, rubbing her eyes and yawning. “What time is it now?”
“Just past twelve.”
“Oh. Have you eaten?”
“Not yet. Fu Qiao will bring back food for all three of us in a bit.”
Xu Yingran let out another “Oh” and watched as Yao Jin continued playing with her phone. Tilting her head, she asked, “You’re always on your phone. What are you looking at all the time?”
Yao Jin gave her a sidelong glance, propped her chin on her hand, and casually tossed out two words: “Stocks.”
