I Can't Fall for My Own Wife Again After Reincarnation, Right? (GL) - Chapter 7
Yao Jin looked at the unfamiliar classmate in front of her. She remembered this girl had invited her to go off-campus for snail noodles at lunchtime, but she had refused. She didn’t expect the girl to block her again after school, saying she wanted to talk.
Yao Jin didn’t know what exactly the conversation would be about, and she didn’t want to say much. After all, there was a reason she transferred schools. She didn’t even know when she’d leave again. Why would she go out with a stranger she just met? What if she was a delinquent?
“Sorry, my driver is already waiting at the school gate.”
Yao Jin raised her proud little head and spoke to Xu Yingran through her nose, “If there’s anything, we’ll talk next time.”
At that moment, there were still students in the classroom. When they heard Yao Jin say her driver was waiting, they all turned their heads to look.
“Is she really a rich second-gen? Her family has a driver?”
“Why would a rich second-gen come to our school?”
“Who knows.”
The whispering around her made Yao Jin uncomfortable. She turned to glance at the ones talking, opened her mouth like she wanted to say something, but then remembered her father’s advice. In the end, she closed her mouth and turned her head as if she hadn’t heard anything.
But Xu Yingran couldn’t stand hearing things like that. She glanced at the gossipers and realized it was the same group who used to talk behind her and Fu Qiao’s backs. How truly annoying.
“Whether her family has money or not, what’s it got to do with you?”
Xu Yingran tilted her head at them. “Are you planning to become her maid?”
Chen Yu, who was watching the scene from the window corner, was startled. She frowned and said, “Xu Yingran, are you crazy or what? Why are you meddling so much?”
“Why do you care if I meddle?” Xu Yingran shouted back. “You’re the one talking behind people’s backs. She hasn’t even said anything to you.”
Yao Jin looked at the girl in front of her and saw Xu Yingran just happened to look up at her too. Xu Yingran stood up with her things, grabbed Yao Jin’s hand, and said, “Don’t mind them. Let’s go.”
Then, under everyone’s eyes, she pulled Yao Jin out the door.
Chen Yu snorted and cursed under her breath. Then she spotted Fu Qiao still slowly packing her things and laughed.
“Fu Qiao, your girlfriend just ran off holding another girl’s hand and didn’t even glance at you. Aren’t you mad?”
Fu Qiao paused at her words but still didn’t look back.
Chen Yu got more annoyed seeing her silence and crossed her arms. “Weren’t you two childhood sweethearts? I thought your relationship was great. But once a pretty rich girl shows up, she runs off with her. Maybe she never liked you in the first place.”
Fu Qiao’s eyes flickered a little. She turned and looked at Chen Yu.
“What are you looking at?” Chen Yu said provocatively. “Did I say anything wrong?”
Fu Qiao couldn’t be bothered with her. She picked up her bag and walked off.
—
Meanwhile, Xu Yingran had pulled Yao Jin to the end of the hallway. There was an empty classroom there, almost no one ever came, making it the perfect place to talk.
Yao Jin shook off her hand. Her pretty eyebrows furrowed slightly. She asked, “What do you want to talk to me about?”
Xu Yingran looked back at her and said, “Actually, I have a secret.”
Yao Jin glanced at her. She was sure now this girl wasn’t a delinquent. No delinquent would start like that. She probably just wasn’t right in the head.
“I’m not interested in other people’s secrets,” Yao Jin said. “If there’s nothing else, I’m going. My driver really is waiting at the gate.”
“A-Jin.”
Yao Jin froze when she heard Xu Yingran call her that. She turned to look at her and asked, “How do you know that nickname?”
A-Jin was her childhood nickname, only used by close family. No one else would call her that. She looked at the strange girl in front of her and couldn’t shake the feeling that she really was hiding something.
Xu Yingran smiled. “I know a lot about you. I know you transferred from an international school to get away from your mom. I also know your parents are going through a divorce and you haven’t decided who you want to live with, right?”
Yao Jin frowned and looked at Xu Yingran suspiciously. “Who are you?”
“My name is Xu Yingran,” she said. “I’m from ten years in the future. I’m your best friend.”
“…”
So not only was she a fool, she was a lunatic too.
Yao Jin pressed her lips together and crossed her arms. “I don’t know how you found out all that about me, but we’re not close, and I don’t want anything to do with you. Don’t follow me again.”
But Xu Yingran said, “How can we not be close? I know where you live. I know you wet the bed in third grade. I even know your first crush was your homeroom teacher in eighth grade—mmph!”
Before she could finish, Yao Jin nearly used all her strength to cover Xu Yingran’s mouth.
“You—you—you—how do you know that?!”
Yao Jin was shocked. It was one thing to know about her parents’ divorce or her home address, but bedwetting and her first crush? No one could know that unless they were extremely close!
She was someone who cared a lot about her image. She would never tell anyone, especially not about her first love. How did this girl know?
Could it be… she really was from the future?
The more she thought about it, the worse her expression got. Was she going crazy too?
Xu Yingran, on the other hand, was calm. Seeing Yao Jin’s pale face, she pulled her hand away gently and smiled. “So you believe me now? I really am your close friend from the future.”
Yao Jin felt her mind cracking. She stared at Xu Yingran, unsure whether to believe her or not.
Xu Yingran said, “Now, can we talk properly?”
Yao Jin gave her a deep look and said, “My driver really is waiting at the gate. If you have something to say, make it quick.”
“Okay,” Xu Yingran nodded. “There’s something I need your help with.”
—
It was past 8 p.m. The old street was still lively. People were out walking after dinner, and young workers were heading home after overtime.
Xu Yingran walked into an alley carrying some things, even humming a tune.
Fu Qiao’s mom, Hu Mei, saw her and greeted her, “Ranran, here to see Qiao again? Did you eat yet?”
“I ate already. Mom—uh, Auntie, can you call her for me?”
Xu Yingran grinned brightly and almost slipped her tongue again.
“Oh, I’m busy right now,” Hu Mei said. “She’s in the back kitchen. Just go find her.”
“Okay!”
Xu Yingran easily found Fu Qiao, who was sitting at a table skewering meat with tongs. She walked over and smiled. “What’s the little chef doing today?”
Fu Qiao looked up briefly, then went back to skewering meat without responding.
She’s mad?
Xu Yingran tilted her head. After she finished talking with Yao Jin and returned to class, she found Fu Qiao had left without waiting. It wasn’t hard to guess—her wife was clearly jealous.
After they got married, Fu Qiao would get jealous easily. She wouldn’t say anything, just give her the cold shoulder. Xu Yingran knew her inside and out after all these years—especially this younger version of Fu Qiao. Her feelings were written all over her face.
“I just talked with Yao Jin about something. Don’t be mad,” she said as she opened the bag in her hand, squatted in front of Fu Qiao, and added, “Look, I bought you takoyaki. I asked them to put extra ketchup. It’s still warm. Try it.”
Fu Qiao didn’t want to respond, but Xu Yingran looked at her with puppy-dog eyes, making her feel annoyed.
She was the one who’d known Xu Yingran all her life—so why did Yao Jin show up and suddenly become so important?
Fu Qiao felt a sour ache in her chest. She didn’t know why she was like this, but when she thought about how Xu Yingran didn’t even look at her after school, she felt really upset.
> *”Weren’t you two childhood friends? I thought your relationship was great. But once a pretty rich girl showed up, she ran off with her. Maybe she never liked you at all.”*
Chen Yu’s words echoed in her mind, making her feel even worse.
She looked at Xu Yingran in front of her and honestly didn’t know if she still had feelings for her.
Xu Yingran felt uneasy under Fu Qiao’s stare. She quickly stuck a takoyaki on a skewer and shoved it into her mouth, then pulled her up from her seat.
“You eat. I’ll help you skewer the rest.”
Fu Qiao held the still-warm takoyaki and watched Xu Yingran roll up her sleeves, wash her hands, and start working skillfully.
She had wanted to ask if she even knew how to do it, but seeing how skilled Xu Yingran was made her curious.
Fu Qiao washed her hands to get rid of the meat smell, grabbed a small stool, and sat next to her. She asked, “How do you know how to do this?”
Xu Yingran didn’t answer. She couldn’t very well say *after we got married, I used to help you, and we even opened a BBQ restaurant together*, right?
She kept her mouth shut.
Fu Qiao quietly ate the takoyaki. She must’ve been hungry, because she didn’t even care that they were hot—she ate one after another, quickly finishing them all.
Seeing this, Xu Yingran laughed. “Is it good?”
Fu Qiao nodded, then stuck a skewer with a takoyaki on it and offered it to her. Xu Yingran smiled brightly and opened her mouth to eat it.
While the two were feeding each other, Hu Mei pulled open the kitchen curtain and saw the two girls sitting together.
“Oh? Why’s Ranran helping out too?”
“It’s fine, Mom—uh, Auntie,” Xu Yingran mumbled with food in her mouth. “Did you need something?”
