I Conquer the Entertainment Industry with My Medical Skills - Chapter 10
Xie Anran never expected to encounter An Ningqing here.
Before she could even process why An Ningqing was present, she had already rushed over and grabbed her. “Come with me.”
An Ningqing had actually gotten lost. The taxi driver had dropped her off halfway up the mountain, and she’d been searching for Qian Lingling’s house ever since. Who could have imagined that instead of finding Qian Lingling’s place, she would stumble upon such a dramatic scene?
The innocent white flower has fallen in love with the Third Miss. Is this fortune or misfortune?
“Zhuang Yanxin, listen clearly: I don’t love you. I already have a fiancée.”
“You’re lying!”
Zhuang Yanxin glared fiercely at An Ningqing several times. “Sister Anran, why do you insist on deceiving yourself? You clearly love me so much.”
Xie Anran laughed in exasperation. “What makes you think I love you?”
Zhuang Yanxin pouted, her expression aggrieved. “If you didn’t love me, why would you have rushed me to the hospital when I was sick? Why would you tell me stories to cheer me up when I was afraid of thunder? And on my birthday, you always personally chose my favorite bags as gifts. You clearly understand me, love me, and cherish me. Why won’t you admit it?”
An Ningqing stared at her with the disdainful look one reserves for a manipulative woman.
“Stop stirring up trouble.”
Xie Anran pinched An Ningqing’s arm firmly. “You’re overthinking things. I took you to the hospital because your sister had an urgent meeting and couldn’t make it. I happened to be the closest. I would have done the same for any friend or family member who was sick. As for you being afraid of thunder alone at home, that was your sister’s idea—she told me to read you storybooks to comfort you. And the birthday gifts? She told me your preferences, of course, but don’t worry, I had Master help me choose them all.”
“I’ve made myself perfectly clear, right?”
“No, I don’t believe you, Sister Anran! You’re just saying that to protect her, aren’t you?”
Zhuang Yanxin clearly hadn’t expected this answer. She burst into tears, glaring at both of them with the look of a betrayed lover.
An Ningqing, who had been enjoying the drama, suddenly felt Xie Anran’s arm tighten around her waist. “Believe it or not, I’m engaged now,” Xie Anran said. “I’m loyal to my fiancée and will never love you. You can give up now.”
Tsk tsk, she’s really going for the kill.
Zhuang Yanxin stared at the pair before her, then suddenly turned her furious gaze on An Ningqing. “It’s all your fault! If it weren’t for you, Sister Anran would never have said such cruel things to me. You stole her away!”
An Ningqing: “???”
Her face was utterly innocent, but before she could speak, Xie Anran clamped a hand over her mouth. “Zhuang Yanxin, I’ve already notified your sister. You should go back and prepare for your trip abroad. Let’s hope we never meet again.”
With that, Xie Anran swiftly shoved An Ningqing into the car, abandoning Zhuang Yanxin as the vehicle sped away.
“So harsh on a little sister?” An Ningqing remarked.
“I don’t like her. Giving her false hope would only hurt her more.”
Besides, what kind of “little sister” was Zhuang Yanxin? At nineteen, Xie Anran had never even considered drugging someone. Who knew what she might do if this dragged on?
It took An Ningqing a moment to react. “Wait, where are you taking me?”
The question reminded Xie Anran of An Ningqing’s suspicious behavior. “That’s what I should be asking you! What were you sneaking around my house for?!”
Could she have been planning to confess her feelings too?
Xie Anran shot a strange glance at the woman in the back seat.
“I have a meeting with someone. She lives in your neighborhood.”
“Really? Or are you just embarrassed and making up excuses?”
An Ningqing repeated the address Qian Lingling had given her. “Third Miss, please take me back. Thank you.”
Xie Anran flew into a rage. “Do you think I’m your personal chauffeur? You tell me to take you somewhere and I just do it? What do you take me for?”
An Ningqing argued calmly, “Third Miss, I was almost at my destination when you dragged me into your car without even asking. I didn’t want to break my appointment, and the agreed-upon time was approaching, so I asked for a favor.”
“……”
In the end, Xie Anran drove An Ningqing back to the address. On the way, they passed Zhuang Qingxin’s car. Their eyes met briefly as the vehicles brushed past each other. Qian Lingling stood waiting outside the gate, eagerly rushing to greet the car as soon as she saw it. Xie Anran looked suspicious. “Isn’t she your rival? When did you two become so close?”
An Ningqing got out of the car with a wave, offering no further explanation.
Enraged, Xie Anran slammed on the horn.
Qian Lingling recognized Xie Anran, but today she was in no mood for formalities. After keeping her secret hidden for so long, only for it to be seen through in an instant, she was exhausted and had no energy for pleasantries. She led An Ningqing inside and suddenly remarked, “Now I believe Third Miss truly favors you. You’re quite remarkable—you actually managed to pluck this wild rose.”
An Ningqing didn’t want to discuss personal matters.
“Have you prepared the medicinal herbs I asked for?”
“Alright,” An Ningqing said, preparing to help Qian Lingling drain the remaining contents from her uterus. “First, I’ll give you acupuncture. After that, you’ll need half a month of recuperation. It’s best to postpone any activities during this time unless you never want to conceive again. Any further delay will mean you’ll never have children.”
Qian Lingling gasped in alarm. “Is it that serious?”
“Can’t you feel it yourself?”
“I… okay, I’ll postpone my upcoming events.”
Qian Lingling lay down on the prepared bed, removing her clothes until she was only wearing a silk nightgown. She watched An Ningqing heat the slender silver needles over a flame, the air around her radiating a sacred aura. The woman before her seemed completely different from the foul-mouthed An Ningqing she remembered. “Aren’t you even a little curious?”
An Ningqing’s expression remained focused. “Curious about what?”
Qian Lingling fell silent. She couldn’t possibly reveal her secrets; she wasn’t that foolish.
An Ningqing lit calming incense. Once Qian Lingling had drifted into a hazy sleep, she inserted the needles. By the time Qian Lingling awoke, the entire procedure was complete. “You must avoid bathing for the next few days. I’ll prescribe two doses of medicine daily, and you should maintain a light, bland diet.”
Qian Lingling felt completely refreshed, having finally gotten a good night’s sleep after a long time.
An Ningqing, ever meticulous, explained in detail what impurities Qian Lingling’s body would expel in the coming days, urging her not to panic. Qian Lingling found this fussing side of An Ningqing strangely endearing. “Alright, my dear Dr. An,” she said, “I’ll follow your instructions. But with so much to remember, why don’t you write down the key points and send them to me?”
“I can do that,” An Ningqing replied.
An Ningqing packed up her things, preparing to leave.
“Shall I give you a ride?” Qian Lingling offered.
“No need,” An Ningqing replied.
“Oh, I see,” Qian Lingling said with a knowing smile, watching her leave.
An Ningqing had walked quite a distance, still fretting about how to hail a taxi in this area, when a familiar car pulled up beside her. Xie Anran rolled down the window. “What a coincidence, my fiancée! Need a ride?”
Without hesitation, An Ningqing got in.
Xie Anran glanced at An Ningqing’s reflection in the rearview mirror. She looked relaxed, composed, and emotionally stable—nothing like someone who had just been in a heated argument or suffered a fright.
“Third Miss,” Xie Anran asked, “is there anything you need my help with?”
“Ah, no.”
Xie Anran hesitated. “My eldest brother has a slight misunderstanding about you. He might make things difficult for you in the future.”
An Ningqing looked puzzled, taking a moment to process the information. “What kind of difficulties?”
“Aren’t you afraid?”
“Why should I be?”
Xie Anran tapped the steering wheel impatiently, thinking An Ningqing was likely just a naive newcomer, unaware of the world’s darker side and unfamiliar with her brother’s methods. In the past, he had always used money to bully people. She wondered if An Ningqing could be easily bought off by her brother, especially since she seemed to be short on funds. “Don’t worry,” she said. “I’ll protect you this time.”
An Ningqing sensed a desperate gamble in her words.
It seemed she had once again been dragged into the sibling rivalry. Well, she was used to it. “Thank you,” she replied.
Xie Anran’s face flushed crimson.
The car remained silent until they reached their destination. After a friendly farewell, Xie Anran watched An Ningqing enter the apartment building. Only when the lights came on in her apartment did Xie Anran start the car and drive away. In the end, she couldn’t resist calling Guan Lang.
“What kind of manager are you? Don’t you know to provide An Ningqing with a car? If she can’t drive, hire a driver for her!”
“She’s a major celebrity, yet she has to walk or take taxis everywhere? What kind of nonsense is that? If word gets out, people will think this is the standard for my fiancée!”
“Are you trying to get fired?”
After venting her anger, Xie Anran concluded that An Ningqing’s manager was utterly incompetent. She had never encountered such a down-to-earth celebrity. If she hadn’t been waiting specifically for An Ningqing today, the woman might have had to walk all the way home.
And then there was that creepy male fan from yesterday.
Irritated for no apparent reason, Xie Anran honked her horn repeatedly.
An Ningqing needed to receive acupuncture detoxification treatments from Qian Lingling for seven consecutive days. On the final day, after completing the treatment, she told Qian Lingling, “I won’t be coming back tomorrow. If you have any issues, just text me.”
“Okay.”
With that, she left.
She had walked this route back and forth for several days now, with Xie Anran driving her home almost every day. An Ningqing counted her steps, wondering at which point Xie Anran would appear.
Today, she counted to one hundred and fifty.
The screech of emergency brakes sounded behind her. She turned to see a van screech to a halt in front of her. Two burly men emerged, their menacing aura sending chills down her spine. An Ningqing immediately turned and fled downhill.
“What? She slit her wrists?”
“Are you suggesting I go check on her?”
Xie Anran felt this situation was far from over. Her gaze drifted casually, then widened in horror as she saw the two men dragging An Ningqing into the van. “Call the police!” she shouted into her phone. “Someone’s kidnapping An Ningqing!”
With that, she slammed her foot on the accelerator and rammed her car directly into the van.
The violent collision successfully blocked the van’s escape. Xie Anran nearly vomited from the impact, but she suppressed her nausea, shoved open her door, and stumbled toward the van. “Who ordered you to kidnap An Ningqing? Release her now! Let her go, now! Mmph—”
A sharp pain shot through the back of Xie Anran’s neck, and darkness engulfed her vision. She instantly lost consciousness.
