I Conquer the Entertainment Industry with My Medical Skills - Chapter 29
Xie Anran had never seen such a foolish woman.
The tide was rising, yet she stood there motionless.
As another wave surged toward them, Xie Anran forgot her original intentions and rushed forward, scooping An Ningqing into her arms and carrying her away from the shore. Inevitably, she was drenched head to toe by the seawater.
“Ah, you pricked me again!”
“……”
An Ningqing watched as Xie Anran materialized out of nowhere like a magician’s trick, then glanced at the newly arrived sightseeing car parked nearby. She withdrew her needle. “Third Miss, you’ve been following me.”
Xie Anran’s eyes darted guiltily up and down, avoiding An Ningqing’s dark, angry gaze. “What are you talking about? I was just worried about you! Don’t you know how dangerous this island is? Besides poisonous snakes, there are lions, tigers, and even man-eating great white sharks in the sea. What were you doing coming here alone?”
“You didn’t even notice the tide was rising! Are you stupid? And shouldn’t you be keeping that wound dry?”
Her voice grew louder, her confidence swelling with each word.
An Ningqing chuckled softly. “Third Miss, don’t sneak up on me like that. It’s dangerous.”
Though her smile was the same as before, Xie Anran sensed something different about An Ningqing. She wrung out her dripping skirt, water still dripping from her hair. “You stabbed me earlier too.”
But this time, her arm didn’t go numb.
An Ningqing’s icy fingers lightly tapped the inside of Xie Anran’s elbow. “Just a little warning. Next time, this needle might be poisoned. One prick could end your life, Third Miss.”
“You? If you dare poison me, you’ll regret it. I’ll drag you down with me even in death.”
Xie Anran showed no fear, dismissing An Ningqing’s warning as a joke. She casually draped an arm over An Ningqing’s shoulder, bent down to slip off her shoe, shook it out, and dumped out a trickle of water and sand. She nearly threw the shoe away in disgust, but walking barefoot on the sand was too uncomfortable. “Let’s go, let’s go. We need to get back and change.”
The sea breeze made An Ningqing feel a chill.
By the time they returned to the estate, their clothes had dried in the wind. Xie Anran felt like a dried salted fish, reeking of seawater. Without even a nod to An Ningqing after getting off the sightseeing car, she dashed to her room for a shower, unable to wait another moment.
An Ningqing remained completely unhurried. As she knelt before her suitcase, preparing to change, her phone suddenly rang. She picked it up and saw it was Guan Lang calling.
“Aiyo, my little darling! Why didn’t you answer your phone while you were out having fun? I almost reported you missing to the police!”
What an exaggeration.
She remembered Miss Li had already informed Guan Lang of her itinerary for the next month.
Though she had only spent a short time with Li Jing, the woman had left a strong impression on her—efficient and professional. This could only be Guan Lang being overly dramatic.
“What’s up?”
“Nothing urgent, really. I just wanted to know when you’ll be back. You’ve been resting for a while now, and your fans are clamoring for you to get back to work. You know, you could at least send me a few photos while you’re enjoying yourself.”
“Got it.”
An Ningqing glanced at her phone’s signal bars—full strength. She had almost forgotten what it was like to surf the internet.
She chatted briefly with Guan Lang, mostly listening to the agent’s endless chatter about a script that was perfect for her, future projects, and where to focus her efforts. He even suggested she take on a variety show to maintain her fan base…
An Ningqing let Guan Lang’s words go in one ear and out the other.
After he hung up, she picked up her phone, turned on the camera, and pointed it at herself. Her face in the viewfinder was flawless and rosy. She snapped a series of photos against various backdrops, then sent them all to Guan Lang in one go before tossing her phone back into the bottom of her suitcase.
Just as she finished, Xie Anran emerged from the bathroom. “You should go take a shower,” Xie Anran said.
An Ningqing figured since her wound was already wet, she might as well shower and reapply the ointment afterward. She took an unusually long shower, so long that Xie Anran started scrolling through her phone to kill time. The moment she picked it up, a barrage of messages flooded in:
Yoho! Sneaking off on vacation with your fiancée without telling us? Anran, you’re too good at keeping secrets!
And you lied about her being stranded on an island, bored to death!
Married men these days! All talk and lies. You’ve learned to deceive us, Anran. You’ve gone bad!
Xie Anran: Â ???
Speak plainly! I don’t understand.
Heh, caught with your pants down and still trying to deny it? Here’s the proof: ImageImageImageImage
Ugh, this endless stream of PDA is making me sick!
The bathroom door swung open just as Xie Anran casually tapped open the images. Each one was a high-definition selfie of An Ningqing, her skin so tender it looked like you could squeeze juice from it. The key was the backgrounds: some showed outdoor scenery, while others featured her string of seashells.
The backgrounds almost perfectly matched the photos An Ningqing had previously posted on WBo and her WeChat Moments.
No wonder her friends were going wild again.
A slight smirk tugged at Xie Anran’s lips as her fingers flew across the keyboard.
A bunch of perpetually single dogs, jealous because they can’t find their own fiancée.
An Ningqing remained blissfully unaware of the netizens’ frenzy, especially those who followed both her and Xie Anran. The CP shippers were practically losing their minds, and fans were already scrutinizing Guan Lang’s every move with eightfold magnification, desperate for any hint of “sweetness.”
After showing off, Xie Anran tossed her phone aside and strode over to An Ningqing, who was drying her hair with a towel. She pressed An Ningqing onto the sofa. “I’ll never understand you. There’s a perfectly good hairdryer right there, but you insist on using a towel. Look, you’re getting water on your wound.”
With that, she snatched the towel, draped it over An Ningqing’s head, obscuring her beautiful brows and eyes, and began vigorously rubbing her hair.
An Ningqing: “…I can do it myself.”
An Ningqing’s weak protest was immediately dismissed.
Feeling the warm fingers gently brush through her hair and delicately touch her scalp, An Ningqing lowered her gaze and sighed softly. Just as Xie Anran’s hand was about to withdraw, she suddenly spoke, “Third Miss, you should be doing these things for your real fiancée. Outsiders don’t understand our relationship, but shouldn’t you know better?”
This was nothing more than a misguided encounter.
Xie Anran’s hand froze in mid-air, a few strands of An Ningqing’s soft hair still curled around her fingertips. The hair was as soft as An Ningqing’s lips—tender, warm when kissed, yet she never expected such firm words to come from those soft lips.
She placed her hands on An Ningqing’s shoulders, carefully avoiding the still-frightening wound.
When will it ever heal completely?
Xie Anran gritted her teeth. “An Ningqing, when will you break this habit of using people and throwing them away? I told you, the game ends only when I say so.”
“I don’t want to play your game anymore.”
An Ningqing tilted her head back, exposing her vulnerable neck as she gazed steadily at the woman behind her. Her expression was earnest. “Third Miss, I mean it. Let’s just end it here.”
Xie Anran’s fingers traced An Ningqing’s slender, elegant neck, sending shivers down her spine. Yet An Ningqing didn’t flinch, her gaze remaining unwavering.
Xie Anran leaned in, her eyes fixed on An Ningqing’s flushed skin. Just a few touches, and she’s already this sensitive?
“What do you suggest, An Ningqing? I’m particularly interested in you now. I don’t want to let go.”
An Ningqing pressed her lips into a tight line.
Warm breath brushed against her ear, and An Ningqing instinctively tried to turn away, but Xie Anran’s hand clamped firmly on her chin. A kiss, hotter than the breath itself, landed lightly on her earlobe, sending a searing tremor through her heart.
Just when An Ningqing expected more words, Xie Anran simply kissed her and left, not even bothering to apply ointment to her shoulder—something she had always insisted on doing before.
An Ningqing remained frozen in place, sitting motionless for a long moment before resuming drying her hair. By then, it was nearly dry.
The stifling heat in the air seemed to vanish with Xie Anran’s departure. With a soft sigh, An Ningqing methodically applied ointment to her wound.
The mention of medicine inevitably reminded her of her earlier conversation with Xie Anran about the pharmaceutical factory. Right, I should ask Dr. Jiang tomorrow where Mr. Li’s medication comes from.
She was certainly getting good at taking shortcuts these days. In the past, her Master would have scolded her for such laziness.
An Ningqing lay on the bed for a while, then turned onto her side, her gaze drifting involuntarily to the door lock. After staring at it for a moment, she lay back down and closed her eyes.
She slept fitfully that night.
When she woke up, she found the sofa empty. An Ningqing walked over barefoot, only to find it exactly as she had left it the day before.
Xie Anran hadn’t returned at all.
She stood frozen for a moment before snapping out of her daze. She washed up, ate breakfast, took a walk to digest her food, and then went to clock in.
Everything seemed perfectly normal.
What surprised her, however, was seeing Anne on the third floor. Anne was there for a medical checkup, and An Ningqing watched the entire process from outside, even reviewing the examination report afterward.
Dr. Jiang fretted beside her. “Miss Anne has been taking care of her health for years. This time, it should finally work, right?”
An Ningqing didn’t reply, instead tossing the report to him and personally explaining the next steps to Anne. “Xiao Mi should have given you the instructions I wrote yesterday. Do you have any questions?”
Anne had spent half the day yesterday studying the two pages of notes, even getting someone to translate them before memorizing the contents. “Miss An, if I follow your instructions exactly, will I definitely get pregnant?”
“Or could you give me a probability? I’m a little worried.”
An Ningqing pursed her lips. “Miss Anne, pregnancy is also greatly influenced by your emotional state. You’re too tense. Relax, and don’t worry or be afraid. With today’s advanced technology, Mr. Li has already left frozen sperm, as far as I know. You will have the child you desire.”
Anne took a deep breath. “Thank you. I’ll try my best.”
An Ningqing smiled, watching Anne’s tension ease. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll prepare two doses of traditional Chinese medicine to optimize your body’s condition.”
Anne nodded vigorously. “I think I can do this.”
An Ningqing admired Anne’s resilient spirit. After a few more casual remarks, she personally escorted Anne to the door. As Anne was leaving, she hesitated, then quietly offered, “If your fiancée gets angry, just… kiss her fiercely. If once doesn’t work, try twice.”
An Ningqing: “!!!”
Anne clenched her fist in encouragement. “Dr. An, you’ve got this!”
