I Don't Want to Be the Villainess Anymore - Chapter 103
When Chu Can heard that Qin Yuzhen was inviting her to visit her new home, she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was some ulterior motive at play.
“Are you planning to mess with me?”
Listening to the skeptical voice on the other end of the phone, Rong Xi couldn’t help but wonder what Qin Yuzhen usually did to Chu Can to make her so distrustful.
“Is it really that strange to invite you over after buying a new place?” Qin Yuzhen replied nonchalantly. “It’d be weirder if you bought a house and didn’t invite me.”
“For wealthy people like us who buy houses all the time, of course we wouldn’t just casually invite others over. Then again, this is your first time buying a home, so I guess it’s normal to be excited,” Chu Can said.
Qin Yuzhen narrowed her eyes.
Rong Xi: “…”
“So, are you coming or not?” Qin Yuzhen asked impatiently.
“I’ll come,” Chu Can said. “Why wouldn’t I? But it’ll probably take a few days.”
“Fine. You can bring more people if you want.”
Chu Can fell silent for a couple of seconds. “Bring more people? Qin Yuzhen, this really doesn’t sound like something you’d do.”
“You definitely have an agenda,” Chu Can concluded firmly.
“Rong Xi is coming too. I just want her to expand her social circle here. That way, if I’m busy, she’ll have people to hang out with,” Qin Yuzhen explained.
“Yeah, right,” Chu Can scoffed. “You two are probably going to university in S City anyway. Once school starts, you’ll be surrounded by people.”
“I’m kindly inviting you over, and this is how you react?” Qin Yuzhen let out a cold laugh. “What, do you think I’m going to kill you or something? Since when did you become such a coward?”
“You’re not making us come over to clean for you, are you?”
“Do I look like someone too stingy to hire a maid?” Qin Yuzhen’s voice turned icy. “Besides, asking a pampered young lady like you—who’s never lifted a finger—to clean? Do I look like an idiot? Do you even know how to mop a floor?”
“Qin Yuzhen, just because I don’t like cleaning doesn’t mean I’m stupid. Who doesn’t know how to mop a floor these days?” Chu Can retorted irritably.
Rong Xi glanced at Qin Yuzhen. She had to admit, the girl’s acting skills were impeccable—Chu Can was clearly already hooked.
“Fine, then. Should I bring a dozen or so people?”
Qin Yuzhen looked at Rong Xi, who nodded in response.
“Sure,” Qin Yuzhen agreed.
After hanging up, Qin Yuzhen turned to Rong Xi, who smiled helplessly. “If Chu Can ever finds out your real intentions, she’ll probably be furious.”
“She won’t be. She’s got thick skin,” Qin Yuzhen said dismissively.
Rong Xi: “…”
Chu Can scheduled her visit for the day after the college entrance exam results were released. It was perfect timing—except that it wouldn’t be useful for airing out the formaldehyde anymore.
Since Qin Yuzhen and Rong Xi had already moved in, Qin Yuzhen had wasted a prop card for the sake of their health.
On the surface, Qin Yuzhen and Rong Xi each had their own rooms, but at night, they usually slept together—because Rong Xi claimed the house was too big and she was scared alone.
Though they both knew it was just an excuse, who would call her out on it?
On the day the exam results were released, Qin Yuzhen trended on social media again—even before the scores were out. Someone had started a poll guessing whether she would become the provincial science top scorer that year.
Most people guessed she could, after all, Qin Yuzhen had never left the top spot in any exam she took.
On the morning the results were released, Qin Yuzhen received calls from various schools. Some even went to City A to look for her, only to find out she had moved.
It had to be said that those who called were also at the forefront of the gossip scene, knowing Qin Yuzhen was living with Rong Xi, and they basically tried to persuade both of them together.
University S offered to specially recruit Qin Yuzhen, promising that as long as she took the exams, she could directly receive her degree certificate and even sit for the doctoral entrance exam this December.
Rong Xi could only say that this kind of academic progression was like riding a rocket.
After Qin Yuzhen and Rong Xi agreed, the university would send someone over in the next few days to have them sign the contracts.
The two of them actually found out about their results through trending searches—yes, they had taken a nap and completely forgotten to check their scores.
Qin Yuzhen, Provincial Science Top Scorer in Province A
Rong Xi, Provincial Science Top Scorer in Province A
Their total scores were exactly the same, though their individual subject scores differed slightly. The internet was in an uproar.
Qin Yuzhen: Math 150, Chinese 147, English 149, Science 297.
Rong Xi: Math 150, Chinese 148, English 148, Science 297.
What Year Is This: Damn, are these even human scores?
Breeze and White Sail: Unbelievable. As expected, geniuses only stick with geniuses.
Time Flies: Rub rub rub, bless me with your academic prowess.
…
When Rong Xi saw the results, tears immediately fell.
“I actually scored the same as you, and I almost surpassed you,” Rong Xi said.
“So, are you happy or not?” Qin Yuzhen looked at her.
“Happy,” Rong Xi took a deep breath. “So happy.”
When Huo Yaoxu saw the trending topics, he was also speechless. He was three points behind the two of them—though his score was still impressive, with Qin Yuzhen and Rong Xi in the spotlight, no one even noticed him.
Qin Yuzhen called her adoptive parents to share the news. They were overjoyed and tentatively asked when she might have time for them to visit.
After some thought, Qin Yuzhen decided to take Rong Xi to visit the Qin family before school started.
“Your adoptive parents?” Rong Xi was nervous. “What if they don’t like me?”
“You’re so wonderful, who wouldn’t like you?” Qin Yuzhen said offhandedly.
Rong Xi smacked Qin Yuzhen’s arm. “You’re so dismissive.”
“I’m serious, not dismissive at all.” Qin Yuzhen kissed Rong Xi’s cheek.
When Chu Can saw the trending topics, he was also shocked and sighed, glancing at Liang Xuzhou, who was moving things beside him.
“So, how much did you score?”
“704.”
“That’s not bad.”
Liang Xuzhou shot Chu Can a look. “Not everyone is like Qin Yuzhen. This score is already great.”
“Does that mean you’ll be schoolmates with Qin Yuzhen again?”
“Qin Yuzhen will definitely skip grades—we won’t even cross paths.” Liang Xuzhou was in high spirits. After his results came out, both his brother and father had transferred him a sum of money and promised to buy him the sports car he’d been eyeing for a long time.
Chu Can raised an eyebrow.
On the day Qin Yuzhen threw a party at her house, many people showed up, including quite a few who traveled all the way from City A—like Cheng Fei, Liang Xuzhou, and some classmates who had free time.
“Originally, I wanted you to come help me absorb the formaldehyde. Who knew you’d be so busy?” Qin Yuzhen took a sip of her drink and glanced at Chu Can beside her.
Chu Can: “…”
“I knew you didn’t have good intentions,” Chu Can rolled her eyes.
Qin Yuzhen chuckled.
Rong Xi was chatting with others while occasionally glancing in Qin Yuzhen’s direction.
“Bet she’s complaining about you to them,” Chu Can remarked.
“Impossible,” Qin Yuzhen said dismissively. “She’s not like you.”
“I never expected she’d actually put up with you,” Chu Can shook her head. “Such a nice girl—how did she go blind?”
“Hah,” Qin Yuzhen scoffed. “I won’t argue with you. After all, your love life’s a mess—it’s natural for you to be bitter.”
“Excuse you, after breaking up with that guy, I dated someone else, then broke up again, and now I’m seeing someone new,” Chu Can smirked. “As a player, I never let one person keep me down for long.”
“Good for you,” Qin Yuzhen smiled sweetly. “So when are you bringing them around?”
“We’ve only been together for a little over a month. No rush. Let’s see if we last half a year first,” Chu Can propped her chin on her hand.
Qin Yuzhen nodded and didn’t press further. Other people’s lifestyles weren’t really her concern.
The party lasted all night, and by the next afternoon, many woke up to find themselves sprawled on the rooftop. Rong Xi had fallen asleep on the couch before being carried back by Qin Yuzhen.
Chu Can was lying on the carpet next to Rong Xi. When she saw Qin Yuzhen, she tried to get her to help her up—only to be shoved back down.
“Instead of being a decent person, you choose to be a dog,” Chu Can muttered weakly.
“Yep.”
“Don’t think I won’t throw up on your carpet,” Chu Can threatened.
“If you dare, tomorrow this footage will go viral and trend on every platform,” Qin Yuzhen replied nonchalantly.
“You’re truly a dog.”
“Takes one to know one.”
Already weak from the alcohol, Chu Can struggled a few times after being pushed down but ultimately gave up and resigned herself to lying on the carpet.
Cheng Fei, who hadn’t drunk, walked over after Qin Yuzhen left and gave Chu Can a couple of light kicks. Seeing no reaction, she headed to the guest room.
The next day, after everyone left, they all received commemorative photos from Qin Yuzhen.
Qin Yuzhen’s lab was officially completed, with all the equipment installed and personnel entering the final interview stage.
Rong Xi accompanied her and, listening to the candidates’ resumes, couldn’t help but feel a little awed. She realized she wasn’t even qualified to be Qin Yuzhen’s assistant. Quietly, she asked about the backgrounds of the two assistants Qin Yuzhen had hired.
After hearing them, she sighed deeply.
“What’s wrong?” Qin Yuzhen asked softly after finishing an interview round, noticing Rong Xi’s expression.
“Just feeling a bit inadequate,” Rong Xi whispered.
“You’re so much younger than them. By the time you reach their age, you definitely won’t be worse off—in fact, I think you’ll be even better.” Qin Yuzhen gently pinched Rong Xi’s cheek. “There’s no point in making these comparisons. Don’t get stuck in a dead end.”
Rong Xi nodded and gave Qin Yuzhen’s hand a light squeeze.
For the next few days of interviews, Rong Xi didn’t accompany Qin Yuzhen anymore. She used that time to think about her intended major and eventually settled on neuroscience.
