I Fall Every Time I Meet an Alpha [Transmigrated into a Book] - Chapter 1
“Aah! This is so frustrating!” Zhong Xiaoxiao slammed her phone face down onto the desk. She had been reading a novel that made her so angry her chest hurt. What made it even stranger was that the heroine had the exact same name as her. The story felt way too personal. The villainess kept setting traps for the heroine, and each scene felt like someone was targeting her directly. What annoyed her the most was how unbelievably foolish the heroine was. It was the most frustrating character she had ever read about.
“Whatever. I have work tomorrow. I should go to bed.” With that thought, Zhong Xiaoxiao got up and walked toward her bed.
The soft mattress brought some comfort to her irritated mood. She closed her eyes and slowly drifted off to sleep.
Half asleep, she sensed a bright light shining through her eyelids. Still groggy, she squinted and looked toward the source of the light. Her phone was glowing on the desk. Strange. Was it a message? Zhong Xiaoxiao turned over and tried to ignore it, but the light was too bright and kept flashing. She could not fall asleep.
Annoyed, Zhong Xiaoxiao pushed off her blanket and got up. She reached out to turn off the phone, but just as her fingers touched it, a powerful force grabbed her hand. She gasped in shock. It felt like an electric shock. She tried to pull away, but before she could react, a ball of light from the phone pulled her inside.
Zhong Xiaoxiao had no idea what just happened. It was like she had opened a door to another world. She saw stars and galaxies flash past her eyes. The next moment, everything blurred. Her body felt like it had been thrown forward, and suddenly, she was standing in the middle of a city street during the day.
She stood still, looking at the busy road and passing cars. The scene felt unfamiliar, but somehow, also a little familiar.
“Am I dreaming?” That was the only explanation she could think of.
Zhong Xiaoxiao stood there in confusion, completely dazed.
Suddenly, a loud car horn blared near her. The sound was so sharp it nearly scared her soul away. She looked over, annoyed, and stepped to the side. The car sped past her, splashing a wave of dirty water all over her clothes.
Unbelievable. Even in a dream, she had to be this unlucky.
She looked down and brushed the water off her body. That was when she noticed something strange. Her arms and legs looked much thinner, and she was wearing a school uniform. What was going on? Was this really her? She took a few steps forward and looked into a puddle to see her reflection.
She saw a round face with big eyes, a high ponytail, and a sailor-style school outfit. The girl in the reflection looked cute, but it was not the face she knew. Was this really her?
Zhong Xiaoxiao felt like the world had gone crazy. Or maybe she had.
“Zhong Xiaoxiao, what are you doing here?” someone suddenly called out to her.
She looked up and saw a completely unfamiliar face. The girl had sharp, narrow eyes with upturned corners and a cold, proud expression. Zhong Xiaoxiao stared at the small mole on the bridge of the girl’s nose. Then she looked down at the school badge on her chest. Yinglan Senior High School, Grade Eleven, Class Two. The name printed there was Meng Yuqing.
When she saw that name, a buzzing sound filled Zhong Xiaoxiao’s head. This was it. This was the name of the villainess. The evil supporting character from the novel. Oh no. Zhong Xiaoxiao felt dizzy. Please wake up, she thought. What kind of terrible dream was this? Why was she dreaming about the villainess?
“Idiot.” Meng Yuqing frowned when she saw Zhong Xiaoxiao staring blankly at her. She gave her a shove and said coldly, “I am warning you. Stay away from my brother. If you don’t, I will not be so polite next time.”
That line. That awful and familiar line. It was exactly what the villainess said in the story.
Back when she was reading the novel, Zhong Xiaoxiao had been so angry she wanted to scream. Now that she was actually in the story, how could she not fight back? This little brat. How old is she anyway? Who gave her the courage to push me around like that?
Zhong Xiaoxiao pushed her back without hesitation. Meng Yuqing lost her balance and fell right into the puddle. Just then, another car drove past and splashed even more dirty water on her. She stood there soaked from head to toe, like a drenched kitten. Furious, she glared at Zhong Xiaoxiao.
“You pushed me? You actually dared to push me?”
“Why wouldn’t I?” Zhong Xiaoxiao laughed with her hands on her hips. “Next time you talk to me, you better show some respect. Or you will regret it.”
Meng Yuqing stared at her in shock, as if she was seeing someone completely different. This was not the Zhong Xiaoxiao she was used to. Could it be that bullying her for so long had finally driven her crazy?
Wanting to test that thought, Meng Yuqing stepped out of the puddle, walked over with a threatening expression, and grabbed Zhong Xiaoxiao by the collar.
“You have some nerve. You pushed me and still act this arrogant? What makes you think you are anyone’s elder?”
“Meng Yuqing, I suggest you speak to me politely. Otherwise, I will not be polite either,” Zhong Xiaoxiao replied, staring her down.
“And what are you going to do to me?” Meng Yuqing was taller and looked down on her with a mocking expression. Her eyes were full of disdain and arrogance.
But Zhong Xiaoxiao was not the weak and foolish heroine from the novel. She was not scared of this spoiled little brat.
“How about this?” Zhong Xiaoxiao suddenly stepped forward and hugged Meng Yuqing tightly. Caught off guard, Meng Yuqing had no time to react before Zhong Xiaoxiao used her body weight to throw her back into the puddle again.
With a loud splash, Meng Yuqing landed in the water. This time she looked worse than ever. She was soaked, miserable, and completely humiliated.
As the two girls continued to fight, their scuffle quickly attracted the attention of people nearby. Curious onlookers began to gather around, whispering and pointing at them.
“Xiaoxiao, Yuqing!” A voice suddenly called out from the crowd.
Zhong Xiaoxiao looked up and saw someone approaching. The young man looked a lot like Meng Yuqing. Perfect. Everyone was here now. The male lead, the female lead, and the villainess. What a dramatic scene this had become.
The moment Zhong Xiaoxiao recognized Meng Yuzhou, the male lead, she pouted and burst into tears.
“Meng Yuzhou, your sister is being so mean. She is too much. She bullied me. Look, I am soaked from head to toe.”
Meng Yuqing, still sitting in the puddle, stared in disbelief. What? Who bullied who? Can someone please explain?
As soon as Meng Yuzhou saw Zhong Xiaoxiao crying, he hurried over to comfort her.
“I am so sorry. My sister is spoiled and temperamental. Are you alright? Here, take this jacket. You can wear it for now. I will walk you home so you can change.”
Zhong Xiaoxiao sniffled and put on his jacket. She took a quick glance at Meng Yuqing, who was still standing in the puddle with a very sour expression on her face.
Seeing the look of defeat on Meng Yuqing’s face instantly lifted Zhong Xiaoxiao’s mood. Now this felt like the proper way to handle things. Silly and sweet heroine, I just helped you get revenge. You are welcome.
Meng Yuzhou walked Zhong Xiaoxiao home. Meanwhile, Meng Yuqing climbed out of the puddle, soaking wet and looking completely miserable. She felt irritated, but more than that, she was confused.
Why did Zhong Xiaoxiao suddenly act like a completely different person? Wasn’t she always as soft and harmless as a little rabbit? She used to be so easy to bully.
Maybe the saying was true. Even a rabbit will bite when pushed too far.
Looking at her drenched uniform and the crowd of people still watching, Meng Yuqing felt utterly humiliated. She had no choice but to go home and change her clothes.
Later that day, Meng Yuzhou returned home. The moment he saw his twin sister, he could not help but scold her.
“Why are you always picking on Zhong Xiaoxiao? Did she ever do anything to you?”
Meng Yuqing responded with annoyance, “I just cannot stand that you like her. Is that so wrong?”
“I do not like her,” Meng Yuzhou said, but as soon as he mentioned her name, his face turned red and his voice became shy. “Stop making things up.”
As if it was not obvious. Now that he had someone he liked, even his own sister had to take a back seat.
