I Fall Every Time I Meet an Alpha [Transmigrated into a Book] - Chapter 13
Meng Yuqing knew her brother was following them, so she acted even more affectionate toward Zhong Xiaoxiao.
“What are you doing?” Zhong Xiaoxiao tensed up as Meng Yuqing wrapped an arm around her waist. Her skin tingled with goosebumps.
“Shh, my brother’s here,” Meng Yuqing whispered in her ear.
Zhong Xiaoxiao rolled her eyes. This was too much. How long was this act going to go on? Why hadn’t the male lead broken up with Gan Qingyun yet?
She had assumed that after seeing her with another guy yesterday, Meng Yuzhou would have been so shocked that he would end things with Gan Qingyun right away. But nothing had changed.
Meng Yuqing, reading her thoughts, gave a soft laugh. “Honestly, I’m surprised too. I didn’t think he would still be with her.”
Zhong Xiaoxiao wanted to look behind her, but she was afraid Meng Yuzhou would notice. She glanced around cautiously.
“So what do we do now?” she asked.
“First, we get dinner. Then I’ll walk you home.”
The two of them walked into a restaurant together. Meng Yuzhou followed behind and sat at a table not far from theirs. This time, Zhong Xiaoxiao finally saw him. She became nervous and whispered, “What if he recognizes you?”
Meng Yuqing had already asked the system the same thing.
System 666 replied:
He won’t. Don’t worry.
Meng Yuqing repeated the answer word for word. “He won’t. Don’t worry.”
Zhong Xiaoxiao stared at the mole on her nose. It looked far too noticeable. Meng Yuqing looked like a tomboy, and her face was very similar to Meng Yuzhou’s. If he saw her up close, how could he not recognize her?
With that worry hanging over her, Zhong Xiaoxiao barely tasted the meal. As soon as they finished eating, she grabbed Meng Yuqing and dragged her out of the restaurant. She was terrified that Meng Yuzhou would come over and confront them.
Meng Yuqing let herself be pulled along, feeling secretly proud. The way Zhong Xiaoxiao was holding her hand really did make them look like a couple.
System 666 said:
This is a romance novel. It’s not going to go the way you’re thinking.
Meng Yuqing replied:
What do you mean? What am I thinking?
System 666 responded:
You know exactly what you’re thinking. Don’t play dumb.
Meng Yuqing said:
I wasn’t thinking anything.
System 666 warned:
If the mission fails, we both suffer the consequences.
Meng Yuqing sighed:
I know. You don’t need to keep reminding me.
Zhong Xiaoxiao flagged down a ride and pulled Meng Yuqing into the car with her. Only once they were inside did she finally relax. But when she glanced out the window, she saw Meng Yuzhou getting into a car too.
Wow. He really was following them.
It felt like something out of a horror movie.
The night had already fallen. Outside, the city lights glowed brightly, and the streets were packed with cars. The world looked nothing like a horror scene, but Zhong Xiaoxiao felt incredibly anxious.
“What’s wrong with you?” Meng Yuqing asked. “Why are you so nervous?”
Zhong Xiaoxiao looked at her with frustration.
“How are you not worried about your brother recognizing you?”
“If he was going to recognize me, he would have by now. Relax.”
“I can’t relax.”
Meng Yuqing couldn’t exactly tell her that the system had cast a visual illusion, so she said something else to ease her nerves.
“Do you really have so little faith in my makeup skills?”
Zhong Xiaoxiao looked at her face again. It really did resemble Meng Yuzhou’s. She shook her head.
“I don’t have much faith, no.” She was being honest. Anyone with eyes could tell who she was.
Meng Yuqing could tell that both her words and her thoughts were in sync. She laughed a little.
“It’s already dark. Even if he has sharp eyes, all he can see is the outline of a guy. There’s nothing to worry about.”
Her words didn’t make Zhong Xiaoxiao feel any better.
When the car finally pulled up outside Zhong Xiaoxiao’s neighborhood, she immediately reached for the door.
“I’m heading up now. You can have the driver take you home.”
“Wait, I’ll walk you in.”
“It’s just a few steps. There’s no need.”
Despite saying that, they both got out of the car together.
Meng Yuzhou got out of his car too.
Zhong Xiaoxiao turned and saw him. She immediately grabbed Meng Yuqing’s hand and hurried toward her building. They made a few turns inside the neighborhood until she was sure they had lost him. Finally, out of breath, she relaxed.
“Alright, I’m going upstairs now. You should go home,” she said.
“Aren’t you going to invite me in for some tea?” Meng Yuqing asked, staring at the apartment building with interest.
“No way. My mom’s home.”
“Your mom knows me though.”
Zhong Xiaoxiao froze. That’s right. Meng Yuqing had been to her house before. Her mom knew exactly who she was.
“Still no. Just go already,” Zhong Xiaoxiao said.
She was completely drained from acting out this whole romance with Meng Yuqing. Right now, all she wanted was to go home and rest. She had no energy left to deal with her.
“Then give me a kiss goodbye,” Meng Yuqing said casually.
“A kiss? What is wrong with you?” Zhong Xiaoxiao’s voice rose with frustration.
She had just about had it. Kiss this, kiss that, all day long. Go kiss your own reflection!
“My brother’s coming,” Meng Yuqing whispered, giving her a subtle look. “Come on, if we’re putting on a show, we have to finish it properly.”
Zhong Xiaoxiao let out a breath. She didn’t dare turn around to see if Meng Yuzhou was actually there. With Meng Yuqing pressuring her, she stood on her toes and quickly kissed her on the cheek.
Right after that, she turned and ran off, pretending to be shy.
Meng Yuqing watched her disappear with a small smirk on her lips.
In the shadows nearby, Meng Yuzhou stood frozen. He had seen it all.
Yesterday, he had been in denial, unsure of what he had witnessed. But now it was clear. He saw it clearly. Zhong Xiaoxiao had kissed that boy first. She had done it willingly. They were truly together.
The pain settled into his chest like a weight. He felt numb.
Meng Yuqing turned to leave, and Meng Yuzhou followed. Once she had left the neighborhood, he called out to her.
She turned around calmly and looked at him. At the same time, she asked the system in her head, “Are you completely sure he won’t recognize me?”
System 666 replied:
One hundred percent sure.
Meng Yuqing answered:
Good.
“Do you need something?” she asked, keeping her voice cool and composed.
To Meng Yuzhou, this person looked like a charming, confident young man. He was polite, good-looking, and had a soft, magnetic voice that made people naturally drawn to him.
“Break up with Zhong Xiaoxiao,” Meng Yuzhou said firmly, his tone filled with tension.
Meng Yuqing gave a short laugh. “Why should I? She’s mine now.”
“She belongs with me, you jerk!” Meng Yuzhou shouted, stepping forward and grabbing her collar. “Stay away from her, or I swear I’ll make you regret it.”
“And how exactly are you going to do that?” Meng Yuqing asked, completely unfazed. She chuckled and said, “Oh, I know who you are. You’re the class president from Class 2, right? Aren’t you dating our school beauty, Gan Qingyun? What, are you trying to juggle two girls at once?”
Hearing Gan Qingyun’s name made Meng Yuzhou freeze. All his anger seemed to vanish in an instant, replaced by cold silence. His heart sank. He suddenly didn’t know what to do or say.
Meng Yuqing calmly pulled his hand off her collar and continued to provoke him.
“If you want to fight me for her, shouldn’t you break up with Gan Qingyun first? What right do you have to say anything to me?”
She tilted her head and said with a smirk, “To be honest, I actually prefer girls like Gan Qingyun. She’s got fair skin, a beautiful face, and a nice body. But she likes you, so there’s nothing I can do about it. If we could trade girlfriends, that would be perfect. Who even wants Zhong Xiaoxiao? No chest, no curves, no appeal at all.”
“You!” Meng Yuzhou’s anger boiled over.
Now he realized that this guy wasn’t serious about Zhong Xiaoxiao at all. He was just playing with her feelings. A wave of fury exploded in his chest, and he punched Meng Yuqing hard in the face.
“You disgusting bastard!” he shouted, shaking with anger.
Just thinking about how Zhong Xiaoxiao had been hugged, kissed, and emotionally manipulated by this guy made his bl00d boil. It made him want to tear something apart.
Meng Yuqing wiped the bl00d from the corner of her mouth, stood up straight, and looked at him with a mocking smile.
“You care about her that much? Then go break up with Gan Qingyun,” she said. “I was getting bored of her anyway.”
