I Fall Every Time I Meet an Alpha [Transmigrated into a Book] - Chapter 14
Meng Yuzhou had never felt this kind of hatred before. He hated the scoundrel in front of him, but he hated himself even more for being so useless.
His anger burned hot enough to feel like smoke was coming out of his head. He raised his fist to punch again, but Meng Yuqing grabbed it and stopped him.
“Mind your own business, Meng Yuzhou,” she said coldly. “You have no right to interfere with mine.”
You have no right to interfere.
That one sentence hit him like a thunderclap and left him frozen on the spot.
Meng Yuqing shoved his hand away without hesitation, scoffed, and turned to leave.
As she walked, it was like someone had flipped a switch on her. Her disguise faded, and her real self emerged once again.
Her long black hair fell loosely around her shoulders, flowing gently in the breeze. Her delicate oval face was slightly swollen, but it was still clear she was a beauty. Her phoenix-shaped eyes were sharp and fierce, carrying an air of superiority. The tiny mole on the tip of her nose was barely visible under the streetlamp. Her high nose bridge and naturally full lips added to her charm.
Right now, those lips were slightly pursed in irritation from getting punched by the male lead.
Meng Yuqing asked:
“System, you never mentioned that doing this might get me punched.”
System 666 replied:
(You’re the one who provoked him. Who else is to blame?)
Meng Yuqing grumbled:
“Are you going to heal the swelling or not? It really hurts.”
The system had no choice and quickly eased the swelling and pain.
Back at home, Meng Yuqing acted like nothing had happened and headed upstairs to rest. She wasn’t in the mood to see her brother’s reaction.
Meng Yuzhou returned home as well, looking completely lost and dejected.
“Young Master, are you alright?” one of the housekeepers asked in concern. Compared to the clean and tidy young lady of the house, the young master looked like a mess.
“I’m fine,” Meng Yuzhou replied indifferently, skipping dinner and heading straight upstairs.
That night, he couldn’t sleep.
Every time he closed his eyes, he saw that guy hugging and kissing Zhong Xiaoxiao. He also remembered those shameless things that jerk said right in front of him. He was clearly just toying with her feelings.
It made him furious.
Zhong Xiaoxiao probably didn’t even know the truth. She thought she liked someone who liked her back, but he was only playing with her.
Why?
Why did such a pure and sweet girl have to be hurt like this?
Just thinking about it made Meng Yuzhou so angry he couldn’t sleep at all. He showed up to school the next day with dark circles under his eyes.
“Zhong Xiaoxiao, I need to talk to you,” he said when he saw her. “During the break. It’ll only take a minute.”
“Oh,” Zhong Xiaoxiao responded nervously.
Just then, Meng Yuqing suddenly appeared beside her and whispered something in her ear, startling her.
Zhong Xiaoxiao really wanted to curse out loud, but with her brother standing right there, she couldn’t bring herself to say anything rude. She could only grumble silently.
Why did it sound like Meng Yuzhou was about to confess something serious? That made her feel even more uneasy.
Zhong Xiaoxiao wasn’t sure if Meng Yuqing had run into Meng Yuzhou after last night’s events. That uncertainty made her anxious.
During a bathroom break, Zhong Xiaoxiao pulled Meng Yuqing aside to ask, “Did you run into your brother after you left?”
“I did,” Meng Yuqing answered honestly.
“What?” Zhong Xiaoxiao’s heart sank. That’s it! He must’ve figured everything out. That must be why he wants to talk to her—to confront her for teaming up with Meng Yuqing and playing him for a fool.
Meng Yuqing, who could hear her thoughts, smirked. “Relax. He didn’t recognize me.”
“What? He didn’t?”
How blind did he have to be?
“He really didn’t,” Meng Yuqing said as she leaned in closer. Speaking in a voice only the two of them could hear, she added, “He even punched me right here. It still kind of hurts. Will you blow on it for me?”
She pointed at her cheek with her index finger and leaned in with a teasing look, so suggestive it looked like she was asking for a kiss.
Zhong Xiaoxiao just stared at her.
Do girls nowadays all know how to flirt like this?
She rolled her eyes and turned away, not bothering to respond.
From a distance, Gan Qingyun was quietly observing them. She couldn’t help but feel puzzled. Wasn’t Meng Yuqing known for bullying Zhong Xiaoxiao in the past? When did they become so close? If she didn’t already know they were both Omegas, she would’ve suspected something romantic was going on.
“What are you staring at?” a familiar voice asked.
It was Du Lingyan. Lately, she had been hanging around Gan Qingyun a lot. If she weren’t an Omega too, Gan Qingyun might have thought she was flirting with her.
“Nothing,” Gan Qingyun replied flatly. She didn’t want to deal with her and turned to go back to class.
Du Lingyan noticed the cold attitude and felt a little annoyed. She turned her head and followed Gan Qingyun’s gaze, which had been directed at Meng Yuqing.
Seeing Meng Yuqing immediately reminded her of Meng Yuzhou.
Gan Qingyun was currently dating Meng Yuzhou and liked him very much.
This Meng Yuzhou was really not someone people liked easily.
Du Lingyan tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. The gemstone bracelet on her wrist shimmered beautifully under the sunlight, casting a pure, radiant glow. That light reflected off her delicate oval face, making her look stunning beyond words.
Midday break.
Meng Yuzhou asked Zhong Xiaoxiao to step outside for a talk.
“You want to say something?” Zhong Xiaoxiao was still unsure if Meng Yuzhou was about to confess his feelings. Her heart pounded wildly. Oh no, if the male lead was about to confess to the female lead, how was she supposed to respond?
Should she say yes, or should she say yes?
Did she even have a choice?
The female lead had to end up with the male lead. That was how stories ended happily. Well, she hadn’t read the final chapter yet, but the author said it would be a happy ending, so she guessed that was true.
Honestly, Zhong Xiaoxiao didn’t have any romantic feelings for the boy in front of her. At most, she saw him as a younger brother. Just thinking about the age gap between them made her uncomfortable. She was at least seven or eight years older than him. That would be like an older woman going after a much younger guy.
She didn’t even want to think about it.
“You should break up with him.” Meng Yuzhou stayed silent for a moment, then looked straight at her and spoke those words.
“What?” So it wasn’t a confession after all. Zhong Xiaoxiao quietly let out a sigh of relief. As long as it wasn’t a confession, everything was fine.
“Break up with him.” Worried that she hadn’t heard, Meng Yuzhou repeated himself. He looked serious as he added, “He is not serious about you. He is just playing with your feelings.”
“How do you know he is playing with my feelings?” Zhong Xiaoxiao asked casually. From the way he spoke, it seemed clear he hadn’t realized who Meng Yuqing really was.
“I talked to him. He told me himself.”
He told you himself? How clueless can you be? You didn’t even recognize your own little sister.
Zhong Xiaoxiao found the situation a bit funny and didn’t really take Meng Yuzhou’s concern too seriously.
“It’s alright. Thank you for worrying about me.”
“Zhong Xiaoxiao.” Meng Yuzhou became frustrated by how indifferent she seemed. He clenched his teeth and said firmly, “I am telling you the truth. He is just toying with your emotions.”
Zhong Xiaoxiao jumped a little when he shouted her name. Goodness, why are you yelling like that? You scared me.
“Alright, he is playing with my feelings. Then what?” Zhong Xiaoxiao looked at him with wide eyes, her expression innocent yet oddly sharp. “What does that have to do with you?”
