I Fall Every Time I Meet an Alpha [Transmigrated into a Book] - Chapter 3
High school, in Zhong Xiaoxiao’s opinion, was nothing short of a nightmare. Heaven help her. It was the last thing she wanted to go through again.
If she had a choice, she would much rather stay home and lie in bed all day.
But of course, there was someone in her life who would never let her enjoy that kind of comfort. Early in the morning, Zhong Yuanyuan had already prepared breakfast and was calling her to get up and eat before heading to school.
Zhong Xiaoxiao could not even remember the last time she had woken up this early. Being forced up at six in the morning was pure torture. Even if she wanted to go back to sleep, it was impossible.
What kind of miserable life was this?
Dragging her feet, Zhong Xiaoxiao got out of bed, brushed her teeth reluctantly, ate her breakfast reluctantly, and walked out the door to school just as reluctantly.
Once she stepped onto the street, a new problem hit her.
Wait. How was she supposed to get to school?
She stood there, confused. She had no idea where to go. In the end, she simply pulled out her phone and ordered a rideshare.
After all, the world inside a novel and the real world were not quite the same. She had not written this book, so how was she supposed to know what the author’s city looked like? Most of the descriptions focused on one place: Yinglan Senior High School.
It was a private school jointly funded by Chinese and foreign investors. It mainly served children from wealthy families. The campus was built in a gothic architectural style with tall pointed roofs and dark red exterior walls. Walking through the gates felt like stepping into a medieval European castle.
The campus was beautiful and lively, full of vibrant students.
Everyone wore matching school uniforms. White tops and black sailor-style bottoms. There were slight differences between the male and female versions. The girls wore knee-length skirts while the boys wore trousers.
It was now autumn, and the leaves had started to turn yellow.
Wearing the fall uniform and a pair of twin ponytails, Zhong Xiaoxiao walked under the canopy of trees that lined the old stone path. She looked around with wide eyes, wondering if this place might be hiding bats or vampires. It really looked like the kind of place where those things would show up.
In the novel, the author had written pages and pages describing the school’s architecture and layout. Zhong Xiaoxiao used to skip over all of it. She only vaguely remembered that it was gothic in style. Now that she was seeing it with her own eyes, the experience was surreal. Even transmigrating into a book had not felt this unreal.
What was even more frustrating was that she had no idea where her classroom was.
How was she supposed to know where to go?
She figured she should find someone to ask.
She already knew she was in Class Two, Grade Eleven. The same class as the male lead. And unfortunately, the same class as the villainess too.
“Um, excuse me…” Zhong Xiaoxiao spotted a girl with long hair standing ahead of her and stepped forward to ask for directions. Just as the girl turned around, Zhong Xiaoxiao froze.
She instantly recognized that face. It was Meng Yuqing.
“Never mind!” Zhong Xiaoxiao took a step back in panic.
Meng Yuqing narrowed her eyes in displeasure. Zhong Xiaoxiao instinctively kept her distance, ready to defend herself just in case the girl tried to pick a fight.
“I haven’t even gotten my revenge for yesterday, and you come walking right up to me,” Meng Yuqing said with a cold smile. Her sharp phoenix eyes gave off a threatening gleam.
“I’m not afraid of you, Meng Yuqing,” Zhong Xiaoxiao retorted. “You think you’re so great, but you’re not. Hmph.”
“You think I’m not great?” Meng Yuqing stepped toward her. Her expression and presence were intimidating.
Zhong Xiaoxiao’s heart started to pound. Don’t be a coward, she told herself. So what if she’s taller? There’s nothing to be scared of. She lifted her chin and squared her shoulders, standing her ground like a soldier ready for battle.
“Meng Yuqing, you want to fight? Come on then!” Zhong Xiaoxiao shouted with confidence. Her voice was loud enough to attract the attention of nearby students. Even a teacher passing by stopped and frowned.
“What are you two doing? Fighting is strictly forbidden on school grounds.”
“We’re not fighting,” Meng Yuqing suddenly said sweetly, putting on an innocent face. She reached out and wrapped an arm around Zhong Xiaoxiao’s shoulders. “We’re just playing around.”
Zhong Xiaoxiao struggled against her grip and muttered under her breath, “Who’s playing with you? Let go of me. Meng Yuqing, you little brat.”
“Come on, pretty lady, let’s get back to class,” Meng Yuqing said through a forced smile, her voice full of fake sweetness.
The moment Zhong Xiaoxiao heard the words “back to class,” she immediately stopped struggling. Oh right. That was the whole reason she had come here.
All the way to class, Meng Yuqing kept one arm around her. Zhong Xiaoxiao tried several times to break free, but Meng Yuqing was stronger.
Zhong Xiaoxiao was definitely smaller in size. She was barely one meter sixty, while Meng Yuqing was nearly one meter seventy. Zhong Xiaoxiao told herself she would need to rely on brains instead of brute strength. There was no shame in retreating now. She would wait for the right time to strike back.
Just you wait, Meng Yuqing. This isn’t over.
After climbing to the fifth floor of the main classroom building, they finally arrived at Class Two, Grade Eleven.
Once they stepped inside, Meng Yuqing gave Zhong Xiaoxiao a wicked grin and pushed her forward, right in front of Meng Yuzhou.
“Brother,” she said with a smirk, “I brought your future sister-in-law.”
Sister-in-law?
Zhong Xiaoxiao’s eyes went wide.
What did she just say?
Zhong Xiaoxiao was completely stunned. Just yesterday, Meng Yuqing had warned her not to go near her brother or she would deal with her personally. And now today, what was this sudden change of attitude? And Meng Yuzhou, why was he just standing there blushing instead of saying something?
“You are talking nonsense,” Meng Yuzhou finally said, offering a completely useless response.
The students around them started whispering to each other. Some of them even began teasing and shouting out, calling Zhong Xiaoxiao “sister-in-law.”
Zhong Xiaoxiao was fuming. Sister-in-law? Who agreed to that? She certainly did not.
She looked over at Meng Yuzhou and found that he seemed like one of those indecisive boys. She did not really like that type. The author had described him as a cheerful, handsome, and warm-hearted young man, but to her, he just seemed soft and hesitant. Not her style at all. Compared to him, even Meng Yuqing came across as more assertive.
She sighed. What was she even thinking? The plot was already written. She had no choice but to follow the storyline. Compared to this group of teenagers, she was already a woman in her twenties. It was silly to get caught up in thoughts about who she liked or disliked.
Once she calmed down, she stopped being so bothered by the whole “sister-in-law” thing. It was just a romantic subplot. There was nothing she could do to change that.
Zhong Xiaoxiao quietly sat down next to Meng Yuzhou. He looked at her with a red face, like he wanted to say something but could not get the words out.
The classmates around them only grew louder with their teasing.
Just then, Meng Yuzhou’s seatmate came back and saw Zhong Xiaoxiao sitting in his place. He looked confused. A student next to him leaned over and whispered with a grin, “Sister-in-law wants to sit with our big brother now. You should go find another seat.”
“Exactly, haha…”
Laughter and teasing filled the room. Zhong Xiaoxiao finally realized that this was not her desk. But where was her seat supposed to be?
Oh no. Since she had entered this world, why had she not received any of the original Zhong Xiaoxiao’s memories? Not even a little bit?
This was her own fault. She had only focused on the plot when reading the novel and had always skipped the small details. Now she was stuck, knowing nothing and unable to act naturally.
The situation was getting awkward.
Luckily, Meng Yuzhou’s deskmate helped her out. He brought her books over and said kindly, “Let’s switch. You can take my seat.”
“Thank you,” Zhong Xiaoxiao said with genuine gratitude.
But the way she looked so grateful only made the situation more misleading in the eyes of others.
Sitting one row behind them, Meng Yuqing was twirling a pen in her hand and staring at Zhong Xiaoxiao’s submissive expression. She found the whole thing extremely strange. Had Zhong Xiaoxiao accepted the situation already? Then what was the point of her role? Did she still need to do anything?
Meng Yuqing asked quietly in her mind, “System, does this mean my mission is finished?”
System 666 replied without hesitation, “Not even close.”
