I Fall Every Time I Meet an Alpha [Transmigrated into a Book] - Chapter 5
Zhong Xiaoxiao suddenly found herself in an uncomfortable situation. Meng Yuzhou was now dating a girl from the class next door. Should she move back to her original seat? It felt terrible to be the one putting in effort while the other person clearly had no interest.
Just a few days ago, people called her “big sister-in-law” as a joke. Now, it sounded like mockery.
Zhong Xiaoxiao felt like a walking joke. No matter where she went, people seemed to be laughing at her.
“Big sister-in-law, big brother doesn’t want you anymore.”
“Big sister-in-law, are you going to cry?”
“Big sister-in-law, go and win him back.”
A group of boys saw her walking down the hallway and began teasing her right to her face.
Zhong Xiaoxiao kept her expression blank and tried to ignore them, but one of the boys pulled her ponytail to mess with her. She was furious. She wanted to scream. She really wanted to hit them.
But arguing with them would not help. There were too many of them, and they were all tall and strong. Zhong Xiaoxiao was too small to fight back. She already knew that if she stood up to them, they would only tease her more. Maybe it was better to play the victim. Maybe she could get some sympathy.
Thinking that, her lips trembled and tears began falling from her eyes.
The boys were stunned.
“Wait, is she really crying?”
“Why did you pull her hair? Now she’s crying.”
“Was it me? You guys were the ones who said too much.”
“We didn’t say anything bad.”
They started blaming each other, none of them willing to admit they had made her cry.
“Hey, study rep, why are you crying? We didn’t really do anything to you.”
“Yeah, this is nothing to cry about.”
“Look, big brother is here. Move aside.”
Meng Yuzhou walked over and saw the boys surrounding Zhong Xiaoxiao. His face immediately darkened.
“What are you all doing?”
“Big brother, big sister-in-law is upset.”
“Yeah, maybe you should comfort her.”
Zhong Xiaoxiao had only planned to cry a little and return to the classroom. She had not expected Meng Yuzhou to suddenly show up. Since he did, she decided to go all in. She turned to face him with teary eyes, looking pitiful enough to break anyone’s heart. The boys stood awkwardly, unsure of what to say, waiting to see what would happen next.
For a moment, it felt like time had stopped. The male lead and female lead looked at each other. So many emotions passed between them, yet neither said a word.
Then the bell rang. Everyone rushed back to class.
Zhong Xiaoxiao wiped her tears and went back to her seat. She had cried so hard that now she could not stop.
Back in the classroom, she was still wiping her eyes when Meng Yuqing, sitting behind her, noticed and shouted loudly.
“Wow, are you crying for real? Who bullied you?”
Zhong Xiaoxiao already disliked her voice. Now, while she was still hiccupping from crying, she could not even reply.
The boys answered for her.
“Who else? Your brother dumped her. Look how sad big sister-in-law is.”
Being named directly made Meng Yuzhou uncomfortable. Hearing Zhong Xiaoxiao quietly sobbing beside him made his chest ache. This was not what he had wanted. He had not meant to hurt her. He just didn’t want everyone focusing on their relationship, and he didn’t want his sister to target her. But somehow, he had ended up making her cry.
“I’m sorry,” Meng Yuzhou said softly.
“What?” Zhong Xiaoxiao turned to him, surprised.
He looked at her. Her eyes, still wet from tears, were clear and bright. They were beautiful. Eyes like those should never be filled with tears.
He wanted to tell her not to cry. He wanted to comfort her. But just then, the teacher walked in. In the end, he said nothing.
Zhong Xiaoxiao slowly calmed down and thought to herself, Maybe he really does care. Maybe my crying softened his heart. After all, they were supposed to have a mutual crush. Even if he was dating that girl from the other class now, he still had feelings for the heroine. She was sure of it. She had read the book. She knew the truth better than anyone.
She ended up daydreaming through half the class again, thinking about how to get the story back on track. The male lead had already fallen for someone else. What should the female lead do now? Try to win him back?
Zhong Xiaoxiao didn’t really want to play out that kind of drama. She didn’t actually like the male lead, so she had no motivation to fight for him.
During the break, the girl from the other class came by again. Zhong Xiaoxiao remembered hearing the boys talk about her. Her name was Gan Qingyun. She was known as one of the most beautiful girls in school, with a sweet and pure look. Even Zhong Xiaoxiao thought she was lovely. Of course the male lead would like her. She was stunning.
Zhong Xiaoxiao glanced at her own figure, then looked at the other girl’s slim waist and full curves. She had the kind of body that made any boy turn his head.
Zhong Xiaoxiao rested her head on her desk and stared outside. Meng Yuzhou and Gan Qingyun were standing in the hallway, talking and smiling.
Behind her, Meng Yuqing also noticed. She followed Zhong Xiaoxiao’s gaze and saw her brother talking with the girl from the other class.
Meng Yuqing spoke to the system.
“Can I beat that girl up?”
System 666 replied, “No. You can only bully the female lead.”
“That’s not fair. Why can I only target the female lead?”
“Because you’re the villain in her story.”
“That sounds so wrong.”
“Does it really?”
Meng Yuzhou returned to the classroom and saw Zhong Xiaoxiao looking at him, as if she had something to say but was holding it back.
“What is it?” he asked.
“Your girlfriend is really pretty.” Zhong Xiaoxiao smiled awkwardly. “Maybe I should move back to my old seat. I don’t want to cause any misunderstandings.”
“There’s no need,” Meng Yuzhou said as he sat down, clearly rejecting the idea.
Hmph, of course he says there’s no need. He clearly likes the female lead, yet he still goes and dates someone else. Zhong Xiaoxiao thought to herself, the only reason he gets away with it is because the female lead likes him.
Wait a minute. If Meng Yuzhou already had a girlfriend, and the female lead tried to step in, wouldn’t that make her the third party? Just thinking about that made Zhong Xiaoxiao feel uncomfortable. The male and female leads were supposed to be the destined couple, but now the female lead had somehow become the other woman. Who wrote this ridiculous plot?
Meng Yuqing looked at Zhong Xiaoxiao and said to the system, “I want to request a new skill.”
System 666 responded, “What skill?”
“Mind reading.”
“Keep dreaming.”
“I just want to know what the male and female leads are thinking. That way, I can help bring them together.”
“You don’t need to know that to make it happen.”
“I’m just worried I’ll take things in the wrong direction.”
“As long as I’m here, you won’t.”
After class in the afternoon, Zhong Xiaoxiao was packing up and getting ready to leave when Meng Yuqing suddenly appeared at her desk, blocking her path. She looked past Zhong Xiaoxiao and spoke to her brother.
“Brother, let’s go hang out.”
“I still have something to do,” Meng Yuzhou replied.
“Xiaoxiao is coming too, right?” Meng Yuqing grabbed Zhong Xiaoxiao, who was clearly trying to slip away.
Zhong Xiaoxiao had no choice but to speak. “You two go ahead. I’ll pass.”
“You can’t skip it.” Meng Yuqing gave her a mischievous smile. “It wouldn’t be any fun without you.”
Zhong Xiaoxiao immediately grew nervous. She had no idea what Meng Yuqing was planning and just wanted to leave as quickly as possible. But Meng Yuqing was blocking her, so she had no choice but to grit her teeth and ask, “Where are we going?”
Meng Yuzhou paused when he heard that Zhong Xiaoxiao was going. He stopped in his tracks and didn’t walk away.
Meng Yuqing put an arm around Zhong Xiaoxiao’s shoulder and pulled her along. “To a good place.”
The three of them walked out of the classroom together. Just then, they saw Gan Qingyun approaching. Her eyes lit up with a sweet smile the moment she saw Meng Yuzhou. Up close, she was even more beautiful. Her skin was fair, her face delicate, and her figure perfectly proportioned. Zhong Xiaoxiao couldn’t stop staring.
She had to admit, she had always loved looking at pretty girls. Whenever she saw a beautiful woman, she could barely look away.
Gan Qingyun had sparkling eyes, long lashes, and every expression she made was full of youthful charm. Zhong Xiaoxiao could not help but swallow.
Zhong Xiaoxiao kept staring. Meng Yuqing was watching too. Gan Qingyun was about the same height as Meng Yuqing, while Meng Yuzhou was taller, being a guy. Among the four of them, Zhong Xiaoxiao was clearly the smallest. No wonder people called her Xiaoxiao.
Now Meng Yuqing looked at the male lead, the female lead, and the rival love interest, and started to feel frustrated. She spoke to the system again.
“Aren’t you really going to give me mind-reading powers?”
“No.”
“Look at how complicated this situation is. I need to know what all three of them are thinking.”
“You have to rely on your own skills to bring the leads together. No cheating allowed.”
“Why do I even have to bring them together in the first place? Do I owe them something?”
“You do owe them something.”
Meng Yuqing was so angry she wanted to throw something at the system.
The four of them left the classroom building and walked through the old, quiet school grounds. Dusk had settled over the campus, and a few black birds flew past the pointed rooftops, looking eerily like witches in flight.
There were only a few people around, which made the place feel especially empty and cold.
Even though these students came from wealthy families, the campus was far from crowded. The school grounds were large and open, which only added to the lonely atmosphere.
Zhong Xiaoxiao just wanted to go home. She had no interest in hanging out with a couple and a villainess.
