I Fall Every Time I Meet an Alpha [Transmigrated into a Book] - Chapter 9
A chibi-style astronaut robot, code-named 666, appeared before Meng Yuqing and began offering her guidance. The robot was female, about the size of a winter melon, and spoke in a sweet, childlike voice. It hovered in midair, floating right in front of her. Strangely, no one else could see or hear it.
As Meng Yuqing walked up the stairs, she communicated with it through brainwaves.
“My idiot brother is always making trouble for me. Something that could be straightforward and simple, he insists on turning into a confusing mess.”
System 666 replied cheerfully, “A story needs twists and turns to be interesting. If everything goes smoothly from the start, what’s left to write about?”
Meng Yuqing sighed, “So annoying.”
System 666 continued, “Don’t stress. Just find a way to break up your brother and Gan Qingyun. Then you can guide the male and female leads back onto the right path. As long as they end up together in a happy ending, it doesn’t matter how messy the middle gets.”
Meng Yuqing asked, “So I’ve got a new mission now?”
System 666 replied, “That’s right.”
Just like that, her original task of “bullying the female lead” had now become “breaking up her brother and Gan Qingyun.”
After the weekend, school resumed.
Zhong Xiaoxiao was still seated next to Meng Yuzhou. She had lost count of how many times she wanted to return to her original seat, but every time, she was reminded of her mission to complete the romantic storyline with the male lead.
She watched as the male lead talked to Gan Qingyun in the corridor. Her feelings were hard to describe.
What was she supposed to do in a situation like this? She couldn’t just stand there and let the male lead be with someone else. If things didn’t follow the original plot, would she even have a chance to return to her own world? What if she accidentally broke some rule of this world and got stuck here forever? Then what?
Even though her life here wasn’t bad, Zhong Xiaoxiao still missed her real world. She believed that one day, she would go back.
It was like living in a vivid dream, and no matter how real it felt, one day, she would have to wake up.
To her, this world was just a temporary stop.
Zhong Xiaoxiao was caught in a moral dilemma. The male and female leads were supposed to end up together, but now the male lead had a girlfriend. Was she really going to destroy someone else’s relationship?
Though she appeared to be a student, Zhong Xiaoxiao was really a woman in her twenties. The values she held from her original world still bound her. If she went and interfered now, wouldn’t that make her the other woman? Being a third party in a relationship was nothing to be proud of.
Maybe she should just wait until the male lead broke up with his girlfriend?
But who knew how long that would take?
Heavens above, this was such a difficult situation.
At that moment, Meng Yuqing, who sat behind her, suddenly leaned in and whispered in her ear, “You like my brother, don’t you?”
Zhong Xiaoxiao was startled. She quickly turned her head, only to find Meng Yuqing so close that their faces almost touched. Her lips brushed against Meng Yuqing’s cheek by accident.
“Ah!” Zhong Xiaoxiao gasped, immediately covering her mouth. She stared at Meng Yuqing in shock and annoyance. “Why did you do that all of a sudden?”
Meng Yuqing also noticed the soft touch of Zhong Xiaoxiao’s lips on her cheek. Her expression grew complicated.
“I was trying to talk to you. I should be the one asking what you’re doing,” she replied. Then, whether by accident or on purpose, she wiped the spot that had been kissed as if she was disgusted by the contact.
Zhong Xiaoxiao was so embarrassed that she wished she could curl up and disappear.
The two stared at each other, neither one saying a word.
The bell rang.
Zhong Xiaoxiao quickly turned back toward the blackboard. Her heart was racing uncontrollably.
What just happened? Why am I so nervous?
That villainess is probably still scheming something. I absolutely cannot let her fool me.
Meng Yuqing, who could hear Zhong Xiaoxiao’s thoughts, frowned and asked the system, “Why does she keep calling me a villainess?”
System 666 replied, “Well, you are the villainess.”
“What?” Meng Yuqing was caught off guard by the answer. She suddenly sensed something unusual.
“System, tell me the truth. Is there something off about the female lead?”
System 666 asked, “What do you mean?”
Meng Yuqing pressed further, “Didn’t you say the female lead was killed because of me, because of my character? So is this still the same female lead?”
System 666 answered, “Zhong Xiaoxiao is still Zhong Xiaoxiao. Maybe her personality changed a bit, but she did die once, after all.”
Meng Yuqing thought about it. That actually made sense. A person who had died might come back different. That wasn’t too surprising.
“No wonder she’s not afraid of me anymore. Does she know I was the one who killed her?” Meng Yuqing asked.
System 666 hesitated. “Well, I can’t reveal too much. Just follow the storyline. Everything will make sense later.”
Meng Yuqing frowned. “But right now, she really seems to hate me.”
System 666 said, “What does it matter? You’re the villainess anyway. Don’t worry about the details.”
Meng Yuqing realized the system wasn’t willing to say much more, so she had to rely on herself to figure things out. It was exhausting. She just wanted to get this over with and return to her own world. She had no interest in playing childish games.
She glanced at Zhong Xiaoxiao, who was sitting in front of her. The only thing she was sure of was that Zhong Xiaoxiao also liked the male lead. At least their goals were the same. Maybe they could form a temporary alliance.
During the break between classes, Meng Yuqing waited outside the restroom and stopped Zhong Xiaoxiao as she came out. Zhong Xiaoxiao had just finished and was heading back to class when Meng Yuqing called out to her.
Zhong Xiaoxiao looked confused and wary. She had no idea what trick Meng Yuqing was about to pull.
“I want to talk to you,” Meng Yuqing said. She reached out and grabbed Zhong Xiaoxiao’s hand. “Let’s have a proper conversation.”
Zhong Xiaoxiao tried to pull her hand back. “There’s nothing to talk about,” she said. But Meng Yuqing held on firmly and practically pulled her along.
Unable to break free, Zhong Xiaoxiao had no choice but to follow. She was starting to get annoyed. “What do you want now?” she asked. “Your brother doesn’t even like me. There’s no reason for you to keep picking on me.”
“I know,” Meng Yuqing replied with a slight smile. “I’m not here to bully you.”
“Then what are you trying to do?”
“You like my brother, don’t you?”
Zhong Xiaoxiao stared at her, silently refusing to confirm or deny it.
Meng Yuqing looked at her calmly. “Between you and Gan Qingyun, I think you’d make a better sister-in-law.”
“Is that because Gan Qingyun is harder to deal with?” Zhong Xiaoxiao asked sarcastically.
“No. I just think you’re cuter.”
Zhong Xiaoxiao looked at her in disbelief. She didn’t trust a word of it.
Meng Yuqing understood that it wouldn’t be easy to make Zhong Xiaoxiao let her guard down, not after everything that had happened. But she wasn’t trying to be friends. She simply said, “You like my brother. There’s no need to hide it. I already know. Honestly, I don’t want Gan Qingyun to be my sister-in-law. Our goals are the same. So I think we should work together for now. What do you think?”
Zhong Xiaoxiao almost laughed out loud. Did she really just hear that? The so-called villainess was asking to team up with her?
She knew Gan Qingyun wasn’t someone you could easily push around. Gan had status, looks, and everything else. Unlike her, who had nothing. Meng Yuqing couldn’t touch Gan Qingyun, so she turned her attention to someone more vulnerable. But one thing was for sure. Meng Yuqing’s possessiveness over her brother meant she would never quietly accept someone she didn’t approve of.
Zhong Xiaoxiao also wanted the two of them to break up. Maybe this alliance wasn’t such a bad idea. Of course, if she really did end up with the male lead, Meng Yuqing might turn on her again. But that was a problem for later.
Right now, the most important thing was making sure the male lead and Gan Qingyun broke up as soon as possible.
“Alright,” Zhong Xiaoxiao said, after a brief pause. “I’ll team up with you.”
