Chapter 10: Grievance
Xiao Xi shook her head. “I don’t know. I’m busy enough with my own work, I don’t have time to pay attention to what he draws.”
General Manager Jin had all the employees in the department take a look, and they all gave the same response, saying they hadn’t paid attention, only usually going to Su Shixiao’s desk if he had a question.
Wu Qing smiled triumphantly at Su Shixiao. This was the angriest Su Shixiao had ever been, even more so than the times his family ignored or misunderstood him because of Su Shibei.
“Su Shixiao, do you have anything else to say now?” General Manager Jin looked directly into his eyes and asked forcefully.
Su Shixiao met his gaze, stubbornly replying, “I’m not lying. The character ‘Feng’ was designed by me.”
General Manager Jin saw that he still wouldn’t admit he was wrong and sighed disappointedly. “You are dismissed. You don’t need to come in tomorrow. I will have someone process your final pay.”
He walked out after speaking.
After General Manager Jin left, Su Shixiao looked at the relieved Wu Qing, staring at her coldly. He said, word for word, “This matter won’t be resolved so easily. You wait and see.”
He then turned and walked away.
He went directly to Nan Yanzhou’s office door, but after knocking several times, there was no response from inside.
Assistant Cheng had just returned from making copies when he saw him standing at Mr. Nan’s office door. He approached and asked, “Second Young Master Su, do you need something from Mr. Nan?”
Su Shixiao turned to look at him when he heard the voice. “Mmm, is Mr. Nan not in the office?”
Assistant Cheng: “Mr. Nan hasn’t been to work for several days.”
Su Shixiao had been planning to ask Nan Yanzhou to help him prove his innocence since it would be easy for him to investigate, but he was frustrated to find he wasn’t there. “Does he often not come to work?”
“Mr. Nan generally doesn’t come to work unless it’s urgent.” Assistant Cheng noticed the sudden frustration in Su Shixiao’s indifferent eyes and offered cautiously, “If you need something, you can call Mr. Nan.”
Su Shixiao: “Thank you for the trouble.”
Assistant Cheng said it was no trouble and picked up his phone to call Nan Yanzhou, but he didn’t answer.
“It’s alright, thank you,” Su Shixiao said and left.
He skipped work and went straight home. Given the situation, why bother staying at work?
When he got home, he suddenly felt wronged, and his eyes welled up slightly. But there was no one home, and no one he could talk to.
His friends were all at work and didn’t have time for him.
Back in his room, he couldn’t help but yell, “Today was truly awful!”
In the evening, the maid came up to call him for dinner. He went downstairs from his room and saw his parents, grandparents, and his brother on the first floor. A surge of injustice welled up, and although he tried hard to control his emotions, the corners of his eyes turned red.
Yan Jiaxin looked towards the staircase and saw her second son standing there. She called out, “Xiao Xiao, hurry up and come eat dinner. Why are you just standing there?”
“Mmm, I’m coming.” Su Shixiao smiled and quickly walked over.
He sat down next to his brother. Su Shizhi noticed he didn’t seem to be in a good mood and asked with concern, “Xiao Xiao, what’s wrong? Are you upset?”
Su Shixiao never usually told his family about his troubles, always resolving them himself. But seeing them now, an unprecedented feeling of being wronged overcame him. This was the first time since he was seven that he wanted to rely on them.
“Brother, there’s something I need your help with,” Su Shixiao looked up, his hands nervously clenched under the table. “Could you help me set up a meeting with Nan—”
“Brother! Someone bullied me on the set!” Su Shibei’s utterly wronged voice came from the doorway. “Hurry up and help me get back at them!”
As soon as Su Shizhi heard his brother was bullied, he immediately got up from his seat and looked towards the door. He saw his younger brother with red-rimmed eyes, looking pitiful and wronged. His heart sank, and he walked towards him. “Who dared to bully you? Tell me, and I’ll beat them up.”
His grandparents, Mom Su, and Dad Su saw their beloved son looking so upset and rushed over with concern.
Su Shixiao’s eyes suddenly felt dry. Looking at the scene, the familiar heartache returned. He softly finished the sentence he couldn’t complete earlier, “Nan Yanzhou?”
His family was all gathered around Su Shibei, asking worriedly, “Our Xiao Bei, where did you suffer such injustice? We all cherish you so much, we can’t even bear to scold you. Which bastard dared to bully you?”
“It was Ge Jun, the actor who plays Male Four in the drama. He hit me while we were filming. It really hurt! I couldn’t beat him, and he always disliked me anyway.” Su Shibei finished and showed them where he was hit.
They saw a faint handprint on his face, which was flushed red, and bruises on his back and hands.
Su Shizhi’s eyes flashed with coldness. “I’ll make him apologize to you tomorrow.”
Yan Jiaxin quickly fetched the first-aid kit to treat her son’s injuries.
Su Shixiao was also very worried when he heard he was injured. He got up from his seat, walked to the doorway, and saw the faint handprint on his face. He asked, both worried and sympathetic, “Xiao Bei, are you alright?”
Su Shibei rushed from his older brother’s embrace into his second brother’s arms, whimpering, “It hurts so much! I won’t feel better unless I hit him back tomorrow.”
Su Shixiao patted his shoulder. Su Shibei winced, inhaling sharply. “Second Brother, don’t pat my shoulder. It hurts!”
“You always slacked off when I asked you to practice Sanda with me. Now you can’t beat others, can you?” Su Shixiao withdrew his hand from his shoulder.
The whole family waited until Su Shibei’s injuries were treated before continuing dinner. After dinner, Su Shixiao went back to his room to shower.
After showering and drying his hair, he received a voice call from He Junsui. He turned off the hairdryer and answered the call. “Hello.”
“Xiao Xiao, you were bullied? How are you doing now?” He Junsui’s anxious voice came through the phone.
Su Shixiao ran his hand through his hair. After a whole afternoon, he wasn’t as angry as he was initially. “I was fired. She transferred the files on my computer to herself and then deleted everything. I couldn’t prove anything.”
“Damn it! How could there be such a malicious woman? What are you going to do? You can’t just let it go.” He Junsui was furious. “How about asking your brother or your dad to help?”
“I definitely won’t let it go.” He paused. “It’s fine, I can handle it myself.”
He Junsui: “So what’s your plan?”
“I’m going to find Nan Yanzhou to check for surveillance footage.” Su Shixiao thought of the Zhu Fu character he had just drawn on his computer. “I also want to see if the character I just finished drawing was stolen by her again.”
He Junsui: “Why didn’t you go see him today?”
Su Shixiao: “I did, but he wasn’t at the company. I’ll go back to the company tomorrow to find him.”
“Alright. If you need any help, remember to call me.”
“Mmm, thanks.”
