Chapter 14: I Was Afraid You Wouldn’t Like It
Nan Yanzhou was stunned for a second, then curved his lips, asking with interest, “What did they say? Tell me.”
“They just said we…” Su Shixiao subconsciously started to speak but immediately closed his mouth again. Remembering how those people gossiped about his relationship with Nan Yanzhou, calling him his lover, or saying he was seducing him, he couldn’t bring himself to say it. His ears flushed slightly. “It was nothing. Let’s hurry up and go. I booked a restaurant near the company.”
Su Shixiao walked out of the department as he spoke. Nan Yanzhou followed him, “You weren’t saying that just now.”
“I’ll press the elevator first.” Su Shixiao said and immediately quickened his pace toward the elevator.
Nan Yanzhou didn’t understand why he would evade mere rumors, but this side of Su Shixiao was quite cute, much cuter than before.
Inside the elevator, Nan Yanzhou continued to tease him, “Now you’re not afraid of walking with me and starting rumors?”
Su Shixiao felt his heart rate was getting unbearable. He took a step to the right. “I’m not afraid. I was just afraid you wouldn’t like it.”
“Don’t overthink things.” Nan Yanzhou turned his head and looked down at him. “You’re young; don’t think too much. Look at your brother, so carefree and happy to be alive.”
“Mmm.”
At the parking lot, Nan Yanzhou pressed the car key, and the car beeped. He turned back to Su Shixiao and said, “Ride with me.”
“Okay.”
Su Shixiao had booked a high-end restaurant not far from the company, about a ten-minute drive away.
They arrived at the restaurant and were led to a table by a waiter. The waiter smiled and said, “Gentlemen, you can scan the QR code on the table to order whatever you would like.”
Su Shixiao politely looked up at the waiter and said, “Okay, thank you.”
After the waiter left, Su Shixiao scanned the QR code on the table and handed the phone to Nan Yanzhou, “Mr. Nan, see if there’s anything you’d like to eat.”
“Where did you find this place? The atmosphere is quite nice,” Nan Yanzhou asked, holding his phone and flipping through the menu.
The restaurant’s environment was indeed one of the best, with exquisite and gorgeous decor. Even the lighting was a soft, warm glow, and you could see the city’s night view outside the window.
“I just searched online.” Su Shixiao also looked around at the surroundings.
There were quite a few people dining at the restaurant, and a staff member was playing the violin.
“I’ve ordered.” Nan Yanzhou handed the phone back to him. “You finish ordering.”
After Su Shixiao finished ordering, he heard Nan Yanzhou ask, “Why don’t you want your brother to know that you work at my company?”
He looked up and saw Nan Yanzhou staring at him. He felt a little embarrassed and averted his gaze. “I didn’t intend to hide it from them, I just don’t know how to tell them. Anyway, if they bring it up, you can tell them then.”
“Fine.”
The answer was as good as no answer, but Nan Yanzhou didn’t insist on knowing every detail; he was just curious.
After the meal, they left the restaurant, and Nan Yanzhou voluntarily offered to drive him home.
Su Shixiao refused, “No need. Aren’t you going to the bar later? I can go back myself.”
“If I say I’m driving you, I’m driving you.” Nan Yanzhou didn’t give him a chance to speak further and strode forward. “Just listen to me.”
Su Shixiao had no choice but to let him, as he couldn’t refuse him anyway.
After dropping Su Shixiao off at home, Nan Yanzhou rushed off to the bar to hang out with his buddies.
After arriving home, Su Shixiao took a shower. Lying in bed, he thought about the events of the past few days, his heart pounding incessantly. These were the longest and closest days he had spent with Nan Yanzhou. He wondered if he would ever have this opportunity to be close to him again.
The next day at work, Xiao Xi, who sat next to him, leaned in and asked gossiping, “Xiao Xiao, what exactly is your relationship with Mr. Nan? I saw how much Mr. Nan protected you; the relationship must not be simple, right?”
Su Shixiao didn’t like people getting so close to him. He moved his chair back to distance himself. “There is no relationship at all.”
Xiao Xi: “Mr. Nan stood up for you like that yesterday. Who would believe that? Could you and Mr. Nan really be lovers?”
“You people are very good at spreading rumors.” Su Shixiao ignored him after that.
“Hey, I’m not spreading rumors. I’m just curious and asking!”
After the company meeting to review all the game characters, the Art Department became extremely busy for the next two weeks. It was so busy that hardly anyone had time to gossip about Su Shixiao and Nan Yanzhou’s relationship anymore. Everyone was focused on revisions. After the revisions, they were sent to the management for review, and once approved, they began building the models.
Su Shixiao hadn’t seen Nan Yanzhou for over two weeks. He was new to the job and not very skilled, so he was so busy that he almost forgot Nan Yanzhou existed.
He stayed an hour late today and finally completed the modeling for the two game characters. He would upload them to General Manager Jin for review tomorrow.
Upon returning home, he saw Su Ningge and Su Shibei chatting, and he heard the sound coming from the television.
Su Shibei heard the door open and looked toward the entrance. Seeing his brother, he smiled happily, “Brother, why are you home so late?”
Su Shixiao changed into slippers. “I worked overtime today. Are you done filming?”
“Mmm,” Su Shibei beckoned to him. “Brother, quickly come and see. Dad is watching my variety show right now.”
Su Shixiao looked at them. “Mmm, you watch first. I’ll go to the kitchen to make something to eat.”
The maid was off work now, so he had to fend for himself.
Su Ningge’s gaze finally moved from the television to him. “Xiao Xiao, haven’t you eaten dinner yet?”
He had rarely been close to his second son over the years, and their conversations were few and far between. This was mainly because his second son was too independent, mature, and sensible, and was generally aloof and didn’t seek closeness with them. They would subconsciously keep a distance from him.
“Mmm, I just got off work.” Su Shixiao said and went into the kitchen to see what he could eat.
Su Shixiao checked the fridge. There were plenty of ingredients, but he didn’t know how to cook most of them. So, he just made a simple bowl of egg noodles.
This was probably the only meal he knew how to make.
While the noodles were cooking, he looked towards the kitchen doorway and saw his father intently watching the variety show, chatting with his younger brother from time to time, a warm smile on his face. His interactions with his father were always very plain. This scene never happened with him. His father would, at most, look at him with gentle, loving eyes but never played and joked around with him like this.
It took him half an hour of fumbling to finish cooking the egg noodles.
He carried the egg noodles to the living room. Su Shibei’s eyes lit up when he saw him. “Second Brother, you’re finally here! Dad is teasing me for being silly on the show. Help me talk to him.”
Su Shixiao looked at his father with a bit of embarrassment. “Resolve it yourself.”
He then sat down on the other side to eat his noodles.
“Hahahaha, Xiao Bei is throwing a tantrum and looking for backup!”
“Dad, you’ve gone too far! Am I not your beloved son anymore?” Su Shibei said, feeling deeply wronged.
“Hahahaha, yes, yes, you are.”
