Chapter 16: Brother Yanzhou, Stop Teasing Me
Nan Yanzhou saw that Su Shixiao was settled and began to reverse the car, leaving the Su family gate and driving straight to the hospital.
They reached the nearest hospital in about half an hour. Nan Yanzhou got out to open the car door for him. Seeing his face flushed red and his dizzy look, he patiently helped him out of the car. He closed the car door, supported him for a few steps toward the hospital entrance, and finally ran out of patience, directly scooping him up in his arms.
Although Su Shixiao felt unwell, he knew what Nan Yanzhou had done and struggled to get out of his arms. “Mr. Nan, put me down.” Being carried like a princess was too embarrassing.
“Stop moving.” Nan Yanzhou was naturally an impatient person and was even more irritable now. “Move again, and I’ll throw you down.”
Su Shixiao instantly stopped moving, subconsciously raising his hand to hold onto Nan Yanzhou’s neck.
Nan Yanzhou glanced down at him. Seeing him behave, he was satisfied and continued walking with him in his arms.
Once inside the hospital, Nan Yanzhou had Su Shixiao sit on a public bench while he went to handle the procedures. Since there weren’t many people at night, there was no need to queue. In less than ten minutes, Su Shixiao was taken to get an IV drip.
Nan Yanzhou returned after paying and saw Su Shixiao sitting quietly on the chair. He walked over and sat down beside him, kindly asking, “How are you? Are you feeling alright?”
“I’m fine.” Su Shixiao turned his head to look at him, his voice soft due to the sickness. “Mr. Nan, thank you for bringing me to the hospital.”
Nan Yanzhou rested his hand on the armrest of the chair. “Mmm, but honestly, it was quite obvious you had a fever for someone your age. Why didn’t your family notice?”
“I just got home a while ago. I wasn’t uncomfortable at first, but it started later. I didn’t want them to worry, so I didn’t tell them,” Su Shixiao looked at him and continued, “Mr. Nan, please don’t tell my brother or Xiao Bei.”
Nan Yanzhou knew that wasn’t the whole reason, but he wasn’t a busybody by nature. Seeing Su Shixiao avoid his gaze, he smiled. “Mmm, I don’t have the time for that either.”
Hearing his words, Su Shixiao was inexplicably relieved and smiled. “Mr. Nan, you don’t need to waste time waiting for me. I can go back by myself later.”
Nan Yanzhou didn’t answer him. Instead, he sat in a relaxed posture and slowly asked, “Why are you calling me ‘Mr. Nan’ so distantly now?”
“Then what should I call you?” Su Shixiao asked, failing to react immediately.
Nan Yanzhou leaned slightly closer to him, meeting his eyes, and said in a slightly teasing tone, “Didn’t you call me Brother Yanzhou last time? That address sounds quite nice coming from you.”
Su Shixiao’s heart beat a few times faster due to his closeness. He slightly curved his lips and smiled faintly. “Brother Yanzhou, stop teasing me.”
“Brother Yanzhou, you should go back. I’ll be fine alone.”
Nan Yanzhou boredly took out his phone and unlocked it. “I’ll keep you company. Although I don’t want to be here, your fever is quite serious, and I can’t let anything happen to you under my watch. Otherwise, your brother and the others would kill me.”
“Okay, thank you.” Su Shixiao was stunned. It had been a long time since someone had stayed with him like this when he was sick. In the past, he was always sensible, trying not to trouble his family. His family also seemed accustomed to this, knowing he was very sensible and independent, and rarely needed them to worry.
“Don’t mention it. Just focus on working well for me,” Nan Yanzhou glanced up at him from his phone and continued looking at the screen as he spoke.
Nan Yanzhou played games for over an hour before Su Shixiao’s first bottle was finished. He stood up, turned off his phone, put it in his pocket, and said to Su Shixiao, “I’m going to buy water. What do you want to drink?”
Su Shixiao: “Milk.”
Nan Yanzhou returned with two bottles of pure milk and handed them to him. “I didn’t know which kind you preferred, so I bought pure milk.”
“Mmm, thank you. I like pure milk.” Su Shixiao felt much better now, and seeing that Nan Yanzhou had bought him pure milk lifted his spirits even more.
“By the way, Brother Yanzhou, how much was the fee you paid for me just now? I’ll transfer it to you.”
Nan Yanzhou twisted the cap off a bottle of water. “No need. I don’t lack that little bit of money.”
Su Shixiao didn’t want to owe him, so he said, “Then I’ll treat you to dinner on Monday.”
“Suit yourself, but I won’t be at the company on Monday.”
“Then just tell me when you’ll be at the company.”
“Mmm.”
At two in the morning, Su Shixiao finally finished his IV drip, and Nan Yanzhou drove him home.
When Su Shixiao returned home, he didn’t go to sleep right away. Instead, he took out his newly bought iPad and started drawing. He drew for over an hour until the drawing was finished, then saved it in a password-protected folder containing over ten drawings in total.
He woke up past one in the afternoon, picked up his phone, and saw a message from He Junsui.
He Junsui: I had a fever last night, actually.
He Junsui: [Feeling unwell]jpg.
He Junsui: You didn’t get a fever, did you?
Yuan Xiao: I got a fever too [Hard to describe]jpg.
Yuan Xiao: I even sent you a message.
He showered and came back to see He Junsui’s reply.
He Junsui: I didn’t receive your message.
He Junsui: [Are you messing with me]jpg.
He Junsui: Did you call me?
He Junsui: There’s no record either?
Yuan Xiao: I sent it to the wrong person, it turns out.
Yuan Xiao: [Panic]jpg.
Soon after he sent the message, He Junsui called him. When he answered, he could hear He Junsui’s schadenfreude as he gossiped:
“Hahaha, so who did you send the message to?”
Su Shixiao said irritably, “None of your business.”
“Let me guess.” He Junsui thought for a moment and said, “You probably don’t have more than fifty friends, right?”
“And the ones that appear in your chat history probably aren’t more than a dozen, right? Besides your family, a few colleagues, me, and two or three other friends you’re close with. Wang Xiaohui and the others haven’t mentioned this in the group. I guess it couldn’t be your brother, could it?”
Su Shixiao: “It wasn’t my brother.”
“Then is he close with your brother?” He Junsui asked with a mischievous undertone.
Su Shixiao asked speechlessly, “Why are you asking that?”
“Oh, it just suddenly occurred to me that you’re currently working at your brother’s good friend’s company.”
“So, was it Nan Yanzhou?”
Su Shixiao hadn’t expected him to guess correctly and smiled helplessly. “How did you guess that?”
He Junsui said proudly, “So I guessed right, didn’t I?”
Su Shixiao gave a speechless “Mmm.”
“Because you just said it wasn’t your brother, I thought of someone your brother is close with, and then it suddenly clicked—your boss. It was a complete shot in the dark.”
He Junsui continued to gossip: “How was it? Did Nan Yanzhou really take you to the hospital? I heard he’s arrogant, domineering, and extremely impatient. Did he tell your brother directly, or did he just drop you off at the hospital and leave?”
