Chapter 19: Little Brother Xiao Xiao
“Your brother and the others are going camping this weekend. Do you want to come along?” Nan Yanzhou asked, putting a piece of meat into Su Shixiao’s bowl and glancing at him.
Su Shixiao raised his eyelids in slight shock to look at him, and only spoke after swallowing the food in his mouth. “No.”
Nan Yanzhou stared at him and asked, “Why?”
Su Shixiao put down his chopsticks, his voice a little indifferent. “I don’t want to go. I finally have a rest, and I don’t want to do such a tiring activity.”
After lunch, Su Shixiao sat in the passenger seat. Nan Yanzhou rolled down the window, took out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter from his pocket. “I’ll have a smoke before taking you back to the company.”
Su Shixiao lowered his gaze to watch him light the cigarette, take a puff, and exhale smoke. The air around him was slightly hazy, giving him a sense of asceticism.
Nan Yanzhou noticed Su Shixiao watching him, turning his face to look at him. “Do you want a smoke too?”
Su Shixiao shook his head. “No.”
Nan Yanzhou smiled and said slowly, “Even if you wanted one, I wouldn’t give it to you. I’m afraid your brother would find out I led you astray and come after me.”
Su Shixiao: “He wouldn’t. I’m not Xiao Bei.”
Nan Yanzhou took a drag from the cigarette. “Alright, alright, he wouldn’t, he wouldn’t.”
Su Shixiao thought for a moment and then told him, “Mr. Nan, you should smoke less. It’s not good for your health.”
Nan Yanzhou ruffled the back of his head. “Now you’re overstepping and trying to manage your boss, are you, Little Brother Xiao Xiao?”
Su Shixiao broke free from his grasp, couldn’t help but give him a look. “Mr. Nan, I wouldn’t dare. I was just saying. It’s up to you whether you listen or not. Let’s get back to the company quickly.”
Nan Yanzhou took a deep drag from the cigarette, then extinguished it, and drove off.
Two days later, around 4 PM, Assistant Cheng suddenly came looking for Su Shixiao. He held some documents as he walked into the Art Department and stopped in front of Su Shixiao. “Young Master Su…”
Su Shixiao was startled by the address and quickly cut him off. “Oh, Assistant Cheng, are you here for me?”
Assistant Cheng immediately realized his meaning. “Mmm, let’s talk outside.”
“Mmm.”
They walked out of the department, under everyone’s gaze, and headed to the hallway.
Su Shixiao asked, “What is it? Assistant Cheng.”
“Chairman Nan came to the company and found out Mr. Nan went out carousing again. He’s furious and wants us to find him right away, but we can’t get a hold of him,” Assistant Cheng continued. “I was wondering if you could help ask Mr. Su if he knows where he is?”
“Sure.” Su Shixiao didn’t hesitate, immediately dialing Su Shizhi’s number.
In his office, Su Shizhi was surprised and worried to see Su Shixiao’s call. His younger brother had been mature and independent since childhood, rarely relied on family, and seldom called him. The sudden call made him worried that something might have happened, so he quickly answered the phone.
“Xiao Xiao, what’s wrong? Why are you calling me?”
“I…” Su Shixiao didn’t know how to start. He rarely asked his brother for help. “I have something I want to ask you.”
Su Shizhi immediately replied, “What is it?”
Su Shixiao pursed his lips. “Do you… do you know where Nan Yanzhou is right now?”
“Let me check my phone.” Su Shizhi clicked into their friend group chat, found the address of the bar Nan Yanzhou was at, and then realized something. “Wait a minute, why are you looking for Nan Yanzhou? You two aren’t close.”
Su Shixiao explained, “I work at his family’s company. Uncle Nan came to the company and wanted to find him. Assistant Cheng couldn’t find him, so he came to me for help.”
“Brother, I’ll tell you more when I get home. Just send me Nan Yanzhou’s current address. That’s all, I’m hanging up now.”
He hung up the phone and told Assistant Cheng, “I’ll go find him. You go up and tell Chairman Nan.”
He finished speaking and hurriedly rushed to the elevator, leaving Assistant Cheng looking bewildered. “Actually, I could have just gone to find Mr. Nan. Is Young Master Su trying to skip work?”
Outside the company, Su Shixiao received the bar address and room number from his brother. He called a cab online and then realized he might have acted too impulsively. Why did he personally go to find Nan Yanzhou? He scratched his head gloomily. A few minutes later, the cab arrived at the bar.
Inside the bar, it was impossible to tell if it was day or night. The bar was dimly lit with colorful lights, and men and women were dancing on the stage. Su Shixiao uncomfortably turned his face away and went straight to Nan Yanzhou’s private room.
He finally found the room, but before he reached the door, he heard sounds of fighting from inside. When he got to the door, he saw two groups of people fighting. Chairs and tables were overturned, and the floor was littered with broken glass. Nan Yanzhou was gripping another man’s collar with one hand. The man was glaring at him fiercely, raising an empty wine bottle in the other hand, ready to smash it over Nan Yanzhou’s head.
Su Shixiao saw the man about to smash the bottle over Nan Yanzhou’s head, which would certainly cause serious trouble. He rushed forward at top speed, pushed the man away, and blocked his arm with his elbow.
Nan Yanzhou was in the heat of the fight, his eyes red. He suddenly saw someone rush over and save the idiot cousin who had been against him since childhood. He was furious, and when he saw it was Su Shixiao, he yelled even more aggressively, “Su Shixiao, what are you doing?”
Su Shixiao was about to explain when someone tried to attack him. He quickly bent down to dodge it. Nan Yanzhou saw his own men hitting Su Shixiao and became even more furious, shouting loudly, “Don’t hit him! He’s one of us!”
Being overpowered by Nan Yanzhou’s group, Nan Feng gritted his teeth and glared fiercely at him. “You wait for me.” He finished speaking and ran off with his men.
Nan Yanzhou pulled Su Shixiao, who was in the corner, and told his friends, “I’m leaving now. Put it on my tab.” He then pulled Su Shixiao away. His friends watched the beautiful person being pulled away, wondering when “Brother Nan” had gotten to know such a good-looking person.
Outside the bar, Su Shixiao clearly saw the bruises on Nan Yanzhou’s face.
Nan Yanzhou looked at him with a dark expression and asked unhappily, “What was that about? Why did you keep stopping me from hitting them?”
Su Shixiao pulled his hand free, rubbing the red mark on his wrist left by the grip, and said flatly, “With the way you were fighting, I was afraid someone would get killed.”
Nan Yanzhou had fought like this before, and no one had ever helped him like this. His anger dissipated instantly. “Are you alright?”
He reached out and touched the scratch on Su Shixiao’s face, feeling inexplicably that the injury was an eyesore.
Su Shixiao felt the warmth of his fingertip, and his face flushed. “I’m fine.”
Nan Yanzhou lightly rubbed his face, then awkwardly moved his hand away and changed the subject. “What are you doing here?”
Su Shixiao: “Looking for you.”
Nan Yanzhou asked, “Why were you looking for me?”
“Your dad came to the company,” Su Shixiao continued. “He asked Assistant Cheng to find you and bring you back.”
“What?” Nan Yanzhou was shocked and somewhat panicked. He was afraid of no one except his father.
