Chapter 28 Your Breakfast
Su Shixiao didn’t want to go to the party. He wasn’t very close to anyone in his department, but it was a department party, and everyone had to go.
He sat in a corner of the hotel, absorbed in his meal, ignoring the chatter of his colleagues. Aside from the occasional question, he would answer it, and he remained silent.
Xiaoxi, seeing him eating without a word, couldn’t help but ask, “Xiaoxiao, you’re so aloof! You don’t say a word.”
Su Shixiao looked up at him and pushed his glasses. “Hmm? What do you want to say?”
Xiaoxi, seeing he couldn’t carry herself, shook her head. “It’s okay, keep eating.”
Su Shixiao ignored her. He glanced around but didn’t see Nan Yanzhou. He took out his phone and sent him a question.
They were almost done eating when Nan Yanzhou appeared in the private room. President Jin happily invited him for a few drinks, toasted with a few other employees, and then sat down next to Su Shixiao.
“What’s the meaning of that question mark you sent me?”
“Nothing, just asking if you’re coming to the party?” Su Shixiao asked as he tossed his hand wipes back into the opened packaging.
Nan Yan was at a loss for words. “You sent me a question mark right away. Who would understand what you meant?”
“Oh.” Su Shixiao, knowing he was in the wrong, quickly changed the subject. “What took you so long?”
“My friends were having a party nearby, so I went to check out their place first.”
Because they were almost done eating, the staff had mostly left within half an hour, leaving only Su Shixiao and Nan Yanzhou. Nan Yanzhou was waiting for the staff to come and settle the bill.
“Su Shixiao, why haven’t you gone home yet?”
Nan Yanzhou asked, seeing that everyone had gone home, but he was still sitting there.
Su Shixiao still felt empty at the memory of yesterday, and instinctively resisted going home. “I don’t want to go home.”
Nan Yanzhou didn’t notice his emotion and simply asked calmly, “Where do you want to go?”
“I don’t know.” He felt like a homeless child. He looked at Nan Yanzhou’s profile and asked cautiously, “Can you take me home?”
Nan Yanzhou felt inexplicably distressed at his words, though he didn’t know why. He turned to look at him and saw stars in his eyes. His heart raced. “Yeah.”
At that moment, Nan Yanzhou finally realized that Su Shixiao was feeling down. He seemed a little down. He was about to say something, but the staff arrived. He paid the bill and left the hotel with Su Shixiao.
“You’ve been drinking. Let me drive.” Su Shixiao held out his hand for the car keys.
“No, I came here with the driver today. He’s waiting for us in the car. Let’s go.”
“Okay, let’s go.”
Su Shixiao stared out the window as he got in the car, watching the people coming and going along the road, the distant scenery gradually becoming clear and then disappearing before his eyes.
Nan Yanzhou saw that Mingming was still alone and there was a subtle hint of sadness. He said, “Su Shixiao, turn around and look at me.”
Su Shixiao turned to look at him, her eyes looking at him with a look of displeasure, as if asking what he was doing.
“Now tell me, what’s going on?” Nan Yanzhou asked directly, his arms folded.
Su Shixiao asked dazedly, “What’s going on?”
Nan Yanzhou: “I know you’re upset. What happened?”
He was silent for a long moment. “I’m fine. I’m just tired.”
Nan Yanzhou didn’t push him, but patted his head. “If you don’t want to talk, don’t. You can tell me when you want to.”
Su Shixiao turned his head away, refusing to let him touch him. His heart was about to explode. “Yeah, I’m just tired.”
Nan Yanzhou glanced at him, opened the door, went in, bent down to change into slippers, and said to Su Shixiao, “Come in.”
As Nan Yanzhou put on his shoes and walked into the living room, all the lights came on. “Sit down for a while. I’ll get you some pajamas.”
“Okay.” Su Shixiao sat on the sofa and waited for him.
Nan Yanzhou pulled out a set of pajamas from his room. “I haven’t worn these many times, so you can use them. There are disposable toiletries in the guest room, so just use them.”
“I see. Thank you.”
“It’s getting late. Go take a shower and go to bed.”
“Okay.”
Su Shixiao was awakened by the glaring sunlight outside the window. He raised his head to shield his eyes and turned over in his bed. Suddenly, he remembered he had to go to work. He sat up in bed and picked up his phone. It was already 8:30 AM.
He immediately got up and went to the bathroom to wash up. Just as he was about to change, he realized he was at Nan Yanzhou’s house. He left the room, but when he didn’t see Nan Yanzhou in the living room, he went to knock on his door.
“Brother Yanzhou, get up! We’re going to be late for work.”
Nan Yanzhou covered his ears at the noise and said irritably, “I’m not going to the company. Go by yourself.”
“No, Brother Yanzhou, hurry up and get up! If you don’t go to the company, what if they need you for something important?”
Nan Yanzhou was so annoyed by the knocking on the door that he ran barefoot to open it. “Su Shixiao, if you knock again, I’ll throw you out.”
Su Shixiao knew he was truly angry and immediately lowered his raised hand. “Brother Yanzhou, I need you for something.”
Nan Yanzhou leaned against the door, folding his arms, and asked in a sullen tone, “What is it?”
“Can you lend me some clothes?” Su Shixiao asked.
“Okay, wait a minute.”
He returned to the room, found Su Shixiao a pair of clothes that fitted her well, and tossed them to her. “Go change.”
Su Shixiao held the clothes and said, “Brother Yanzhou, hurry up and wash up and change. We’ll go to the company later.”
“Why are you so worried? My company doesn’t even care that much,” Nan Yanzhou complained, then added with disdain, “Okay, go change quickly. I’ll go wash up now.”
When they arrived at the company, they were already half an hour late. Su Shixiao asked Nan Yanzhou to park the car in front of a breakfast shop. “Mr. Nan, please go park first. I’ll go get some food.”
With that, he turned and went into the breakfast shop. Nan Yanzhou gave him a helpless look and parked the car in the parking lot.
Su Shixiao walked into the company building carrying breakfast. When he met Nan Yanzhou at the elevator door, he pressed his breakfast into his hand. “Your breakfast.”
Nan Yanzhou’s lip curled slightly. “Yes, thank you for remembering to buy me breakfast.”
Su Shixiao: “Yes.”
The elevator door opened, and Nan Yanzhou said as he walked in, “Let’s go to my office and have breakfast before going back to work.”
“Ah, why?” Su Shixiao asked, shocked and puzzled.
“Don’t you hate people staring at you? If you were eating breakfast at your desk, there would probably be a lot of people staring at you, and you’re so late.” Nan Yanzhou continued, “I’ll tell President Jin later that if I forced you to do hard labor in the office this morning, he won’t come to see you.”
Su Shixiao smiled softly. “Okay, thank you for your help.”
