Chapter 3: First Day of Work
Su Shixiao successfully passed the interview. Today was his first day of work. While he looked relaxed, he was actually quite nervous inside.
He bought breakfast downstairs at the company, and upon entering the company lobby, someone led him to the art department, assigned him a desk, and introduced him to an experienced employee who would guide him.
It wasn’t time to start work yet, so Su Shixiao sat at his desk and ate his breakfast.
In the CEO’s office, a man in a suit sat at his desk, leaning against it casually. His whole demeanor exuded an unrestrained, rakish vibe. He had an aggressively handsome look, with deep-set eyes that made him look fierce when he didn’t smile, radiating an invisible sense of oppression, even more so when his face was cold.
He listened to his assistant report on the day’s work schedule. Assistant Cheng pushed up his glasses and continued, “Mr. Nan, the Art Department has hired a new concept artist.”
He placed the resume he was holding on the table and pushed it toward his boss.
Nan Yanzhou saw the familiar young man on the resume and frowned slightly, “Did he come to the company to work today?”
Why is Su Shizhi’s brother working here instead of at his own family’s company?
Assistant Cheng’s heart sank when he saw his boss frown. “Yes, he did, Mr. Nan. Is something wrong?”
Did I say something wrong? The boss looks terrifying when he frowns.
“It’s nothing. You can go out now.” Nan Yanzhou didn’t dwell on why Su Shixiao came to work at his company. As long as he passed the interview, it didn’t matter who it was.
On his first day of work, Su Shixiao spent the whole day learning alongside the experienced employee, Sister Wu. He also familiarized himself with the new map, plot, and style of the game the company was currently developing.
He was assigned to the Character Design team, which included characters, animals, and other elements.
Although he was supposedly learning from Sister Wu for a day, she was actually just preoccupied with her own work. She dumped the game materials on him and told him to design a character named ‘Feng’ based on the plot and game style. She barely paid any attention to him.
When he encountered questions and tried to ask her, she was indifferent and spoke with a sharp tone.
He had no choice but to ask others nearby or figure things out on his own. After reading the game plot, he started developing some ideas for the character ‘Feng’ he was supposed to design, based on the character’s personality, appearance, and clothing style.
He spent the whole afternoon on the line draft design, constantly modifying and refining it. Before he knew it, it was time to leave work.
He wanted to draw the final button on the character’s clothes. By the time he finished, half an hour had passed, and the office was empty.
After tidying his desk, he took his phone and left the art department. Standing in front of the elevator, his fair, slender hand quickly pressed the button as the elevator continued to descend.
A minute later, the elevator doors opened. He saw the tall, long-legged man inside. A flicker of surprise crossed his otherwise emotionless eyes, and he froze where he stood.
Nan Yanzhou was also slightly surprised to see him. Noticing he hadn’t moved for a while, he frowned, “Aren’t you coming in? Why are you standing there?”
“Oh.” Su Shixiao quickly stepped into the elevator. The doors closed, and he stood beside Nan Yanzhou, his hands unconsciously clenching and unclenching.
Nan Yanzhou slightly lowered his head to look at the man who was nearly eye-level with him. He was standing quietly beside him, a person who outwardly seemed cool and detached, yet somehow Nan Yanzhou saw the word obedient in his demeanor. His family members were all quite lively and outgoing; he wondered how they raised someone with such an indifferent personality.
“Do you still remember me?”
He hadn’t been to the Su family’s house much since middle school. It seemed like a long time since he last saw Su Shizhi’s younger brother. He hadn’t seen him at his brother’s or younger brother’s birthday parties. He didn’t even know his name until he saw the resume, only then learning that the Su family’s second young master was named Su Shixiao. However, he often played with his younger brother, Su Shibei, with whom he had a good relationship since childhood.
Su Shixiao nodded and said seriously, “I remember.”
“Oh, really?” Nan Yanzhou looked at him with a half-smile, suddenly intrigued. “Then what should you call me?”
“Brother Yanzhou,” Su Shixiao touched his ear, paused, and then called out.
He curved his lips. Hearing him call him ge again, he looked at him meaningfully. When he was little and went to the Su family to see Su Shizhi, he rarely saw him, barely exchanged any words, and was never called by his name. He didn’t expect him to call him ge now.
“Why did you think of interning at my company?”
Su Shixiao rubbed his hand against his trousers and said lightly, “I want to do work related to my major.”
“Isn’t that simple?” Nan Yanzhou sneered. “Just ask your brother to open a studio for you.”
Su Shixiao: “I don’t want that. If I open one, I’ll do it myself.”
“Brother Yanzhou, we’ve reached the first floor. I’ll be going now.” He immediately slipped out after saying that, darting away quickly, much like a rabbit escaping a wolf.
Nan Yanzhou: “…”
Do I look that scary?
Su Shixiao sighed in relief once he was out of the company, raised his hand to cover his heart, and in a good mood, went to the parking lot to drive his luxury car home.
Upon arriving home, he walked into the living room and then the dining room, where he saw the entire family sitting at the dinner table eating dinner.
Su Shibei saw his second brother and smiled sweetly, “Second Brother, you’re back. We just started eating. Come quickly and eat with us.”
At this, everyone looked at him. Yan Jiaxin called out, “Xiao Xiao, are you hungry? Come quickly for dinner.”
“Okay, I’ll wash my hands and be right there.”
Su Shixiao went to the kitchen to wash his hands before sitting down at the dining table.
Grandma Su gave Su Shibei his favorite spare ribs. “Xiao Bei, eat more. You’ll be joining the crew in a few days, and Grandma will miss you.”
Su Shibei looked somewhat helpless, “Grandma, I’ll come back to see you whenever I have time. Besides, don’t you still have Eldest Brother and Second Brother at home?”
Grandma Su: “Xiao Bei is Grandma’s first precious grandson. Your eldest brother and the others have to stand in line.”
Yan Jiaxin looked at her youngest son with doting eyes, “Among our three children, you have the sweetest mouth.”
Su Shibei’s eyes sparkled with laughter, “Oh, it’s not a sweet mouth, it’s the truth, okay?”
“Xiao Bei, I’m uneasy about you going to the set alone, so I’ve found two bodyguards for you,” Su Shizhi said.
Su Shibei immediately made a face and refused, “Brother, no, please! An assistant is enough.”
With bodyguards, my brother will know everywhere I go.
Su Shizhi’s expression was serious and brooked no argument, “Refusal is invalid. Last time you were bullied by other celebrities because you didn’t have a bodyguard.”
He slumped and gave a dispirited “Oh.”
Su Ningge looked at his son, who looked like a deflated balloon, and couldn’t help but stroke his head. “Xiao Bei, your brother is just concerned about you. If you don’t bring a bodyguard, we won’t be at ease either.”
“That’s right, Xiao Bei,” Grandpa Su chimed in.
“Fine.”
“Don’t be unhappy. How about Mom buys you the latest sports car?” Yan Jiaxin felt distressed seeing him unhappy.
Upon hearing this, Su Shibei immediately grinned, “Okay, Mom, you can’t go back on your word!”
“I won’t. I’ll buy it for you when the new car is released. You can go pick it out yourself.”
“Hehehe, thank you, Mom, you’re the best.”
Yan Jiaxin turned to Su Shizhi, her expression affectionate and gentle with concern, “Shizhi, you too, take care of your health. Don’t spend all your time at the company.”
Su Shizhi put some food on her plate and smiled faintly, “Mom, I have control over it, don’t worry.”
Su Shixiao didn’t say a single word throughout, eating with his head down like an outsider, seemingly unconcerned with what they were talking about.
