Chapter 35: Ignored Again
Su Shixiao had been talking to Chen Jiu for a few words when he heard someone calling him. He looked inside and saw his brother and Nan Yanzhou. After a few words of catching up, he left and went to his seat at their table, right next to his brother. Surrounding him were his brother’s childhood friends. There was an empty seat next to his brother, which must have been Xiaobei’s.
“Brother, why did you call me just now?”
“When did you and Jiu become so close?” Su Shizhi recalled everything he remembered from his childhood. He didn’t recall much contact between them, but judging by their reactions just now, it seemed like they were close. Had he really ignored Xiaoxiao?
“It’s always been good.” Su Shixiao didn’t elaborate further. He took the drink poured by Nan Yanzhou across from him. Looking up, he saw Nan Yanzhou looking at him with a half-smile, which puzzled him.
He couldn’t help but text him.
Yuanxiao: Why are you looking at me like that?
Nan Yanzhou was talking to the person next to him when his phone rang. He glanced at it and smiled when he saw the message.
Nanfeng: It’s nothing. I just didn’t expect you and Jiuge to be so close.
Nanfeng: After all, when you were little, you were always in your room, and I never saw you take the initiative to make friends with me.
Nanfeng: I’m a little sad.
Su Shixiao looked at him with confused eyes after seeing his message, and explained seriously.
Yuanxiao: It was when Jiuge came to my house as a kid, he always thought I was funny and teased me, and over time, we became familiar with each other.
Yuanxiao: So I didn’t take the initiative to make friends with him, he was the one who made friends with me.
Nan Yanzhou felt a little happy when he saw this. He raised an eyebrow at him and smiled.
Looking at Su Shixiao, his heart skipped a beat. A moment later, his phone vibrated, and he clicked on the chat history with him.
Nan Yanzhou: I want to be friends with you too, right?
Su Shixiao looked at his message and fell silent. His heart ached. In his heart, Nan Yanzhou couldn’t be a friend.
After waiting for a long time without receiving a reply, he saw the person across from him, looking down in a daze, and sent him another message.
Nanfeng: Aren’t we?
Nanfeng: [fiercely]jpg.
Su Shixiao came to his senses and subconsciously looked up at him. Nan Yanzhou was also staring at him, so he quickly looked down at his phone.
Yuanxiao: Yes.
No one at the table noticed their little gesture.
The wedding was over after more than two hours, and Su Shixiao and Su Shibei were taken back to the car by Su Shizhi, with his assistant driving.
“Tomorrow’s National Day holiday! I’m so happy!” The girl sitting across from Su Shixiao flashed her adorable dimples, clearly in a particularly good mood. “Xiaoxiao, have you thought about going somewhere?”
Su Shixiao smiled and replied, “No.”
He hadn’t really thought about going anywhere. He always had He Junsui dragging him out on vacation during his vacation.
At the mention of a vacation, everyone in the office was excited, a bit restless, and eager to get off work right away.
In the afternoon, their company distributed a box of fruit and a box of nuts to each employee, and every employee went home with a happy smile on their face.
Su Shixiao returned home carrying the two boxes, but saw no one. He put them down and looked around. Surprisingly, there was no one there today. Normally, at this time, his grandparents would be sitting on the sofa or somewhere else, but today, there was no one. He called out, “Grandpa and Grandma, are you home?”
He only heard an echo in response. He sat on the sofa, feeling very depressed.
Even his aunt wasn’t home, and he was starving. He went to order takeout, then got a call from his brother. “Hey, brother, why is no one home?”
His brother also asked, “Why didn’t you come to the airport?”
Both of them were startled. Su Shizhi’s face froze, and he asked, “Didn’t anyone tell you that our family was going on a trip to Qigebo Beach in Country E?”
He had always been ignored by his family, always the last to know. Even though he’d been used to it, it still hurt. “No one told me.”
“I’m sorry, I thought Mom and Dad had told you.” Su Shizhi felt guilty and sad, and also felt sorry for Su Shixiao. He suddenly realized that he seemed to have often ignored Xiaoxiao because of her maturity and well-behaved behavior.
“I’ll go pick you up. Can I take the next flight, Xiaoxiao?”
“No, brother, I don’t want to go. Have fun, you guys.” Su Shixiao’s voice was calm, without a smile, and even a hint of coldness could be heard. “My friend asked me to go out and play.”
With that, he hung up.
Yan Jiaxin saw the unhappy look on her eldest son’s face and felt a pang in her heart. “Shizhi, what’s wrong with Xiaoxiao? He hasn’t arrived yet, and we’re almost boarding.”
“None of us told Xiaoxiao about our trip.” Su Shizhi looked at her and said, “Mom, why didn’t you tell Xiaoxiao?”
“I didn’t expect it.” Yan Jiaxin felt upset, too. “I thought you’d tell him. We were negligent.”
“So what should we do now?” Yan Jiaxin added. “I didn’t mean to do that. Xiaoxiao won’t be angry, right?”
Su Shizhi shook his head. “I don’t know. I think he’s angry.”
Su Ningge: “Tell him to come now. We’ll change to a later flight.”
Su Shizhi sighed. “He said he can’t go.”
Grandma Su, Grandpa Su, and Su Shibei Upon returning from the restroom, I saw the three of them looking glum, so I asked, “Mom and Dad, why are you looking so grim?”
Yan Jiaxin quickly explained everything to them. Grandma Su smiled and said, “Don’t worry, Xiaoxiao is so sensible, she won’t be angry. Besides, we didn’t do it on purpose. We just forgot. This is the first time. We’ll just remember next time.”
“That’s right, my second brother isn’t that petty,” Su Shibei said, holding her mother’s hand. “When has he ever lost his temper with us? He must have made an appointment with a friend.”
Everyone unanimously agreed that Xiaoxiao was so sensible, and that they didn’t do it on purpose, so she definitely wouldn’t be angry. The gloomy mood gradually faded. Su Shizhi thought about it and realized that it was indeed true, but a slight discomfort still lingered.
Su Shixiao sat alone at the table, eating takeout. He’d ordered his favorite dishes, but it felt like chewing wax. He forced himself to finish the rice. Then he got a call from He Junsui, whose voice was cheerful. “Xiaoxiao, tomorrow’s the day off. Come out for a drink.”
“Okay,” Su Shixiao quickly agreed.
He Junsui noticed something was wrong. “No, why did you agree so quickly today? Usually, I’ve been begging you for half an hour or even an hour, but you still might not agree. Why are you acting so strangely today?”
“Send me the address,” Su Shixiao said. “If you keep talking nonsense, I won’t go.”
“No, no, shut up. I’ll send you the address right now.”
