Chapter 37: Night Market
“Thank you.” Su Shixiao took the data cable in his hand.
Nan Yanzhou looked away, his voice a little hoarse, “Yeah.”
Su Shixiao’s voice was soft, “Good night then.”
“Yeah, good night.”
Su Shixiao was awakened by the ringing of the phone. He tapped his head, which was aching from the alcohol, and grabbed the phone next to him. Without even noticing who was calling, he answered, “Hello.”
“Xiaoxiao, why didn’t you come home last night? You didn’t answer my call?”
His brother’s serious, worried voice came over the line, and he sobered up instantly. “Brother, didn’t you go on a trip yesterday? How did you know?”
“I didn’t get on the plane. I came back to pick you up.” Su Shizhi paused, then said, “Xiaoxiao, I’m sorry. I… shouldn’t have neglected you so often just because you’ve been so sensible and well-behaved since you were little. I’ll change. You and Xiaobei are both my brothers, and I love you very much.”
Su Shixiao froze. He hadn’t expected his brother to… know.
He lowered his eyes, feeling gloomy, his fingertips feeling a bit cold. He said nothing, and both sides were unusually silent.
Su Shizhi didn’t ask for his forgiveness. If he had done something wrong, it was wrong. “Xiaoxiao, when are you coming home? I’ll wait for you to come back and go to Country E together.”
“I’m not going.” Su Shixiao thought for a moment before declining. “Brother Yanzhou and I have plans to go out together today.”
“Okay.” Su Shizhi gritted his teeth as he said the word “Okay.” It was Nan Yanzhou again, so why was Xiaoxiao so close to him?
“Then why didn’t you come home yesterday? What happened? You worried me to death yesterday, and you didn’t even answer the phone.”
Su Shixiao rubbed his hair. “I went back to Brother Yanzhou’s house yesterday. I’m fine.”
After hanging up, Su Shixiao got up, washed up, and left the room to see an aunt busy in the kitchen.
Auntie glanced toward the kitchen door, spotted him, and said with a smile, “Is that Mr. Su? Mr. Nan told me about you yesterday and asked me to come over to make breakfast today. It’s ready, ready to eat.”
“Thank you.” Su Shixiao, not seeing Nan Yanzhou in the living room, asked, “Is Nan Yanzhou still up?”
“Mr. Nan hasn’t gotten up yet. He usually doesn’t get up until noon.”
“Doesn’t he eat breakfast?”
“I don’t think he eats when he’s not working.”
Su Shixiao’s eyebrows twitched, and he walked towards Nan Yanzhou’s room. “I’ll go wake him up.”
Knock, knock, knock.
“Nan Yanzhou, get up and have breakfast!” Su Shixiao called, knocking on the door.
Nan Yanzhou, who was in bed, was irritated after being woken up, his voice becoming fierce. “Don’t disturb my sleep! Get lost!”
Su Shixiao, unfazed, knocked on the door again. “Nan Yanzhou, skipping breakfast is bad for your stomach.”
Nan Yanzhou scrambled out of bed in anger, his face etched with rage. He wanted to see who had eaten. How dare you, a scoundrel, disturb his sleep?
“Who’s that? Are you looking for death?”
As soon as he opened the door, he saw Su Shixiao standing there. He was incredibly stunning without his glasses, especially since he was wearing his pajamas. They seemed a bit too big and baggy on him, revealing his delicate collarbone. Nan Yanzhou’s temper instantly melted away when he saw him. He swallowed, looking away from his collarbone, and asked awkwardly, “What did you call me for?”
Su Shixiao smiled softly. “I’m calling you to get up and have breakfast.”
“Oh, breakfast’s ready, so have it first. I’ll go get washed up.” Nan Yanzhou ruffled his hair irritably.
“Hmm.”
After washing up, Nan Yanzhou walked over to the dining table and sat down across from Su Shixiao. He picked up a steamed bun and ate it. Looking at Su Shixiao without his glasses, he asked, “You’re not nearsighted, are you?”
Su Shixiao hadn’t expected that question. After a pause, he replied, “Hmm.”
“Where do you want to travel?” Nan Yanzhou asked.
After a few seconds of thought, he said, “I want to go see the new art exhibition opening the day after tomorrow in Q City.”
“Okay, after breakfast, let’s check out the plane tickets and see what fun things to do in Q City.”
“Okay.” Su Shixiao looked at him with a gentle smile.
After breakfast, the two quickly bought tickets to Q City for 4:30 PM and sat on the sofa together, looking up travel guides.
After getting off the plane, they headed to their hotel. Su Shixiao followed him to Nan Yanzhou’s room. “Brother Yanzhou, do you want to go out for dinner or something?”
“Let’s go out and visit the nearby night market.” Nan Yanzhou put his suitcase away and slumped down on the sofa. “When it gets dark, I’ll take you out for something nice.”
“Okay.”
In a simply and warmly decorated restaurant, Su Shixiao was ordering food on his iPad. After he finished, he handed it to Nan Yanzhou. “I’ve got it.”
“Okay.” Nan Yanzhou finished his order in less than a minute.
Su Shixiao stared at him intently, saying, “Brother Yanzhou, thank you for taking me on this trip.”
“You’re welcome,” Nan Yanzhou said, his lips curled slightly. “As long as I’m happy.”
He nodded vigorously, expressing his feelings. “I’m very happy. I’ve never been happier.”
After dinner, they went to the popular night market in Q City. Su Shixiao rarely visited night markets, and the bustling crowds made him unaccustomed. He followed Nan Yanzhou closely, fearing they’d get lost in the crowds.
Nan Yanzhou glanced at Su Shixiao, who looked unaccustomed to being squeezed in. He reached out and took his wrist, whispering in his ear, “Don’t be afraid.”
Su Shixiao’s ears tinged red as he retorted, “I’m not scared, it’s just that there are so many people, I’m not used to it.”
“Okay.” Nan Yanzhou saw a fruit tea stall nearby and pulled him over. “Let’s go get some drinks. I’m a little thirsty.”
They each bought a glass of watermelon juice, and Nan Yanzhou dragged him to the souvenir shop. He picked up a deserted little fox pendant and said, “I bought this one. It looks a lot like yours.”
Su Shixiao didn’t think it looked like him. “How?”
“It looks deserted.” Nan Yanzhou waved the pendant in front of him. “Does it look like you?”
“No,” Su Shixiao firmly denied.
“Regardless of whether it looks like him or not, I’m buying this one.” Nan Yanzhou looked back at him. “See if you want to buy anything too. Let’s buy it together.”
After leaving the souvenir shop, they ate a lot of snacks and wandered around the night market. Finally, Nan Yanzhou dragged Su Shixiao to the movies. Nan Yanzhou stood at the entrance of the cinema, selecting a movie on his phone. “What kind of movie do you want to see? There’s an action and a thriller coming soon.”
“I’m fine with either. It’s up to you.” Su Shixiao leaned against the wall, watching him.
“Then I’ll buy whichever movie is on the horizon.” Nan Yanzhou was quick and decisive, buying the tickets in less than three minutes.
Nan Yanzhou got up from the wall and, as usual, pulled Su Shixiao along. “Let’s get the movie tickets first, then get something to eat.”
“Okay.” Su Shixiao didn’t resist at all, letting him lead the way. “I want something cold.”
