Chapter 39: Didn’t you just secretly film me?
Over an hour and a half passed before they left the art exhibition. Nan Yanzhou then took Su Shixiao to visit Q City’s most famous aquarium.
Upon arrival, they saw quite a line. Su Shixiao followed Nan Yanzhou in line and glanced around. He spotted a milk tea shop not far away. “Brother Yanzhou, I’m going to get some milk tea. What would you like?”
“Iced watermelon juice.” Nan Yanzhou had also spotted the milk tea shop.
He smiled at Su Shixiao, who immediately ran to get the milk tea after getting the answer, a hint of affection in his eyes that he hadn’t even realized existed.
It was the first time he’d seen him so lively and adorable.
At the milk tea shop, Su Shixiao waited in line for several minutes before it was his turn to order. He ordered large glasses of grape juice and watermelon juice for himself and Nan Yanzhou.
He waited for almost ten minutes before it was finally his turn. Milk fruit tea in hand, he couldn’t help but feel happy. He hurried back to the aquarium entrance and saw that they were only a few people away.
The first thing he saw when he arrived at the aquarium entrance was a man queuing, his head down, playing with his phone. This scene was completely out of place for Nan Yanzhou. His thin lips curled slightly, his brows curved, and he quickly walked over to Nan Yanzhou, saying cheerfully, “Brother Yanzhou, this is yours.”
Nan Yanzhou, who had been playing a game, raised his eyelids to look at him. He saw Su Shixiao smiling, his eyes shining behind his black glasses. He handed him a glass of watermelon juice. He took it and subconsciously touched the back of his head, “Thank you.”
Su Shixiao: “Well, Brother Yanzhou, try it and see if it tastes good.”
“Okay.” Nan Yanzhou took out a straw, dipped it into the watermelon juice, and took a sip, instantly feeling much cooler. “It’s quite delicious. You should try yours too.”
As they walked into the aquarium, it felt like they were in the ocean. All around them was blue, with fish swimming around on both sides. Occasionally, large whales or other marine creatures would swim by. It was truly beautiful. They walked around, took some photos, and discovered a marine restaurant.
Nan Yanzhou walked over and asked the waiter for a menu. “Su Shixiao, come over and see what you want to eat.”
“Oh.” Su Shixiao walked over to sit across from him, took the menu from his hand, and scanned it for a few moments. “The dishes here are more expensive than those at a high-end restaurant.”
Nan Yanzhou lazily rested his head on his hand, his lips curled slightly. “It’s okay, I can afford it.”
He felt an inexplicable sense of pleasure watching Su Shixiao diligently flipping through the menu. He took out his phone and took a picture of him.
Su Shixiao paused, looking up at him and asking, “Why are you secretly taking pictures of me?”
“If you want to, take pictures.” Nan Yanzhou put his phone down and stared at him intently. “Didn’t you just take pictures of me?”
Hearing his words, Su Shixiao nervously gripped the menu. “I’m just taking a picture.”
“Okay.” Nan Yanzhou saw that the menu had been wrinkled by him. He suppressed a smile and took the menu from his hand. “Don’t be nervous. I won’t scold you. Take pictures if you want.”
Su Shixiao’s face turned pale after being caught by him. His face flushed slightly, his heartbeat quickening. He quickly changed the subject, “I want the Qinglong and the BBQ rice.”
“Yes.” Seeing Su Shixiao’s blush brightened his mood, and he smiled and said, “Can I get you a cup of cherry and strawberry black tea to help with the greasiness?”
Su Shixiao: “Sure.”
While waiting for his meal, Su Shixiao pulled his tablet from his bag. He had brought it from Nan Yanzhou’s house. He sketched for about ten minutes, and a line drawing of the restaurant and the two of them appeared on their tablet.
Nan Yanzhou, bored, leaned over to watch him sketch for a few minutes. It felt like his hands were magical, and in a moment, everything in the drawing suddenly became three-dimensional. “Have you been learning to draw since you were a child?”
“Yes, I started drawing in elementary school.” Su Shixiao lowered his head, not looking at him.
“You look really good at drawing,” Nan Yanzhou said. “Sell it to me when you’re done. I’ll post it on WeChat Moments. Your brother was envious of you drawing for me last time.”
The tip of his pen paused, and he deleted and redrawn a few areas, making the drawing much more refined. “Okay.”
Never mind, he’ll go back and refine the line drawing and make some adjustments elsewhere.
They spent another day exploring two scenic spots in the city, flying home at noon on the first day.
After getting off the plane, Nan Yanzhou called his assistant to pick them up. He’d first take Su Shixiao home before going out for drinks with his friends.
When he got home, he saw his brother sitting alone on the sofa in the living room. He stopped and said, “Brother, I’m home.”
“Xiaoxiao, come sit with me for a while.” Su Shizhi smiled for the first time that day upon seeing him back.
“Yeah.” He set his backpack aside and sat down on the sofa. “Brother, what do you want to say?”
Su Shizhi asked, “Did you and Yan Zhou have fun outing?”
Su Shixiao nodded. “Yes.”
“What did you do?” Su Shizhi asked again.
Su Shixiao looked at him strangely. His brother rarely asked him about these things before, so what was wrong today? It was strange, but he still answered his brother’s question obediently.
Su Shizhi realized he and Xiaoxiao rarely chatted like this. He looked at her seriously and said, “Xiaoxiao, I’m so sorry about the trip. I neglected you. I won’t do it again next time. Are you still angry?”
Su Shixiao found it strange. They hadn’t taken this matter seriously before, but now they were taking it so seriously. His brother and mother even apologized to him. He felt a little panicked. “It’s okay. Brother Yanzhou and I had a great time eating and playing.”
Su Shizhi didn’t know what else to say to him. He wasn’t a talkative person to begin with, and Xiaoxiao was even less talkative. When he was with Xiaobei, Xiaobei was the one who talked the most, so he would just follow Xiaobei’s lead and chat with him. Xiaoxiao seemed quite lively and talkative as a child, but he didn’t know when he became so quiet and quiet.
It seemed like he was becoming more and more sensible in elementary school. Xiaobei would cry and make a fuss all day, refusing to let him go out to play. Xiaobei had always loved clinging to him, his parents, and his grandparents. Xiaoxiao, on the other hand, didn’t cry or make a fuss, but rather watched or played by herself, never bothering them.
Thinking of this, he sighed and said seriously, “Xiaoxiao, we all love you very much. Remember to come to us if anything happens. If I’ve neglected you, just tell us and I’ll change.”
Su Shixiao’s eyes trembled, and he looked at him in surprise and disbelief. How did he realize this?
Su Shizhi saw him in a daze and stroked his hair. “Xiaoxiao, did you hear that?”
“I understand,” Su Shixiao replied, but he didn’t take his words to heart.
