Chapter 6: Car Race
When he woke up and looked at his phone, it was already past noon. He finished washing up in the bathroom, changed clothes, left the house, grabbed a quick bite at a random restaurant, and then headed straight to the racetrack.
Upon entering the racetrack, he called He Junsui and asked him to come pick him up.
“Xiao Xiao, you’re finally here.” He Junsui ran out to meet him and found him halfway. “We’re currently competing against your brother’s group.”
“Competing?” Su Shixiao frowned subconsciously. “Are there many of them?”
“About seven or eight people, quite a lot.” He Junsui said while putting an arm around his shoulder. “So, you have to race later, or we won’t have enough people. We’re still short by three or four people.”
Su Shixiao nudged He Junsui’s side with his elbow, escaping his clutches. “Is that why you asked me to come over?”
“Who told you that you’re so good at racing?” He Junsui said with a smile.
Su Shixiao rubbed his forehead. His brother and the others always thought of him as a good, well-behaved person and didn’t know he engaged in such thrilling activities as racing. However, it didn’t really matter if they found out. He hadn’t deliberately concealed these things; it was just that they hadn’t paid enough attention to him, so they never noticed.
Su Shixiao changed into a racing suit and walked out, following his friend into the racetrack. From a distance, he saw Nan Yanzhou, his brother, and his younger brother discussing something.
He stopped and watched for a few seconds. He had seen this sight almost every day when he was a child. He used to long to join them, anticipating chatting with them like that, but his brother always took Xiao Bei to play with them and never included him. Although sometimes Xiao Bei would shamelessly insist on going, perhaps because of his own quiet personality, he couldn’t cry and make a fuss to follow his brother, or maybe his brother simply preferred playing with Xiao Bei. He had been sad about it for a while when he was little.
He Junsui noticed him stop. “Xiao Xiao, what’s wrong?”
Su Shixiao shook his head. “Let’s go.”
He held his helmet and followed He Junsui to their team. Wang Xiaohui saw them and excitedly shouted, “Brother He, Xiao Xiao, you’re finally here! We just lost the last race again. Hurry up and go!”
“Exactly! Seeing how arrogant they look makes me so annoyed,” Wu Ning’nan gritted his teeth. “Especially the way they act so superior.”
Su Shixiao chuckled slightly, seeing him stomp his foot in anger. “It’s alright. I’ll race them in the next round.”
Among all of them, Su Shixiao was the best racer, truly exceptionally good. When they heard his words, they were instantly excited.
“With Xiao Xiao competing, we’re guaranteed to win.”
“We’ll kill their arrogance! Let’s see if they dare look down on us again.”
“Exactly! Exactly! Their attitude is so infuriating. When Xiao Xiao wins later, I’m definitely going to rub it in their faces.”
“Alright, the next round is about to start, no more idle talk.” He Junsui pulled Su Shixiao aside and instructed him, “Be careful, just do your best, don’t push yourself too hard. We don’t absolutely have to win.”
“Don’t worry,” Su Shixiao patted his shoulder, put on his helmet, and walked onto the track.
He saw that his opponent was his own brother. He paused for a second before shaking hands with his brother.
Su Shizhi looked down at the hand with clearly defined knuckles. He thought he saw a small black mole on the pad of the middle finger, and the hand felt oddly familiar. “Please go easy on me.”
“I wouldn’t dare instruct you. Elder Young Master Su is too polite,” Su Shixiao didn’t want to say more. “Let’s start.”
Su Shizhi heard his voice, which sounded particularly familiar. He looked up, only seeing the helmet the other person was wearing.
It’s impossible for Xiao Xiao to be involved in such a dangerous activity. He’s always so distant, quiet, and stays obediently at home.
“Alright.”
Su Shixiao got into the race car and fastened his seatbelt, focusing his attention on the racing girls. The two girls held up the black and white flags, signaling the imminent start of the race.
This was Su Shixiao’s first time competing against his brother, and he felt a little nervous.
A roar sounded, and a minute later, the green light flashed, and the race began.
The two racers sped forward like lightning, moving like a gust of wind, so fast only afterimages could be seen.
At first, the two were equally matched, but when they reached the turns, which Su Shixiao was best at, the distance between them gradually widened. The process was arguably incredibly thrilling and exciting.
The race consisted of two laps. By the final lap, Su Shizhi was following closely behind Su Shixiao. Su Shixiao focused intently, sweat beading on his forehead, his eyes fixed on the track ahead.
Su Shibei watched the person in the white car driving even more smoothly than his brother. Crucially, his cornering was flawless, with virtually no mistakes. He reacted quickly to the curves, drove fast, and had a desperate, reckless drive. They had met their match.
“Brother Yanzhou, the White Team’s racer is quite good this time.”
Nan Yanzhou stood with his hands in his pockets, watching the white race car, his eyes showing anticipation. He slowly curved his lips. “This is what makes it exciting. It wouldn’t be as stimulating if they were all newbies.”
“Next round, I’ll compete with him.”
He was completely fired up by Su Shixiao, his hands itching. He really wanted to compete against him.
The final result of the race was Su Shixiao’s victory.
After the race, Nan Yanzhou walked over and said directly, “What’s your name? I’ll race you in the next round.”
“Okay,” Su Shixiao replied.
Maybe it was just a feeling, as he hadn’t seen his face, but Nan Yanzhou felt he looked very familiar. His aura and figure were very similar to his new employee, Su Shixiao.
He scrutinized him from head to toe and said uncertainly, “Su Shixiao?”
Su Shixiao paused, then chuckled lightly. He hadn’t expected Nan Yanzhou to recognize him. He nodded slightly. “Mmm, Brother Yanzhou.”
Nan Yanzhou was surprised. “You sly dog! I didn’t see that coming. You’ve been keeping a low profile.”
“Not really, Brother Yanzhou. I’ll rest for a bit, and then I’ll race you.” Su Shixiao smiled.
“Mmm.” Nan Yanzhou glanced at Su Shizhi across the way, then turned back to Su Shixiao and asked, “I guess your brother and younger brother don’t know you’re so good at racing, do they?”
Su Shixiao: “Mmm, but I haven’t deliberately hidden it. They just didn’t notice on their own.”
Nan Yanzhou: “Then go rest. And don’t go easy on me just because I’m your boss later. I’m really looking forward to competing with you.”
Su Shixiao laughed, “Don’t worry, I won’t.”
They left the track, and the others began a new round of races.
Su Shixiao returned to the resting area. Wang Xiaohui looked at him with admiration. “Xiao Xiao, you’re amazing! You actually beat the Elder Young Master Su.”
He Junsui chuckled and threw his arm around his shoulder. “Exactly, exactly! Let’s see if they dare look down on us again.”
“Right, right! Xiao Xiao really won one for us.”
…
Su Shixiao was speechless. “You guys are exaggerating.”
“We’re just too excited! Xiao Xiao’s cornering is still incredible,” a young man with a crew cut gave him a thumbs-up.
