Chapter 8: You Guys are Annoying
The dishes they ordered hadn’t all arrived, but the liquor they ordered was served ahead of time.
The young man with the crew cut, Fang Nanshen, opened a bottle of wine, pouring it as he said, “Come on, come on, this is our first time drinking with Young Master He and the others. Let’s start with a toast.”
“Good, good! Come on, quickly pour the wine,” another cute-looking young man, Wu Kaidong, excitedly stood up from his seat and opened another bottle of wine.
“Of course we have to have a toast first,” He Junsui said, taking the wine handed to him by Fang Nanshen.
Su Shixiao also took the wine he was handed and placed it in front of him, only to hear Su Shizhi say to his younger brother next to him, “Xiao Bei, eat some food first to line your stomach before drinking.”
Su Shizhi said this while placing Su Shibei’s favorite pork ribs in front of him.
“Got it, Brother,” Su Shibei smiled at him.
Su Shixiao looked over and saw Su Shizhi helping his brother with food.
Wu Kaidong cheerfully placed the wine in front of them. “Xiao Bei, Brother Zhi, these are yours.”
Su Shibei: “Thanks, Brother Wu. You keep pouring the wine. My brother wants me to eat something to line my stomach.”
Wu Kaidong looked at him and Su Shizhi with envy. “Brother Zhi, you practically raise him like a son. My parents don’t worry about me as much as your brother worries about you.”
“Xiao Bei is my biological brother. Of course, I’d look out for him. If you were my brother, I’d look out for you too,” Su Shizhi said with a gentle smile.
Su Shixiao watched him say these words, realizing he hadn’t looked his way at all, and felt a slight bitterness in his heart.
His grip tightened on the wine glass.
“Come on, come on, let’s have a toast.”
After everyone had a glass of wine, Fang Nanshen stood up with his glass.
Everyone stood up, clinked glasses together, and drained the glass in one gulp.
Because of his identity as the Second Young Master Su, many people offered him toasts. Su Shixiao, who normally didn’t drink much, didn’t refuse, drinking as many glasses as he was offered.
He had a low tolerance for alcohol. In less than half an hour, his face was flushed, and his head felt dizzy.
Su Shizhi and Su Shibei were drinking with Nan Yanzhou and hadn’t paid attention to his situation.
“Xiao Bei, drink less.”
“Got it, Brother. Besides, if I get drunk, I still have you, right?”
The sound of his brother and younger brother talking reached Su Shixiao’s ears, and he found it particularly jarring.
He Junsui noticed that Su Shixiao was a little strange today. He usually didn’t drink; why was he drinking so much today?
He walked over and sat down next to Su Shixiao, asking, “Xiao Xiao, are you alright?”
“I’m fine,” Su Shixiao said, rubbing his forehead and looking up at him.
Wu Kaidong saw He Junsui talking to Su Shixiao and called out to him, “Young Master He, come quickly, we haven’t finished drinking yet.”
Su Shixiao looked at Wu Kaidong and the others, then looked back at He Junsui. “You go drink with them. I’m really fine.”
“Are you really fine?” He Junsui saw Su Shixiao nod and said before leaving, “Don’t drink anymore.”
Su Shixiao leaned back against the chair. “Mmm, I won’t drink anymore.”
Su Shixiao finished eating, pushed his chair back, and was about to get up when someone pressed down on his shoulder. His chair was suddenly turned halfway, and he met Nan Yanzhou’s smiling eyes, causing his heart to skip a beat.
Nan Yanzhou stared at him with a half-smile and handed him the other glass of wine he was holding. “We’ve never had a drink together before. Second Young Master Su, would you do me the honor of drinking one with me?”
Su Shixiao took the wine glass from his hand, accidentally touching his palm with his fingertips. His fingertips instantly heated up. “Mmm.”
Nan Yanzhou clinked glasses with him, then drank it all in one gulp. Looking at Su Shixiao’s flushed face, he couldn’t help but laugh. “You’ve had quite a bit to drink, haven’t you? Your face is so red.”
Su Shixiao reached out and touched his hot cheek. “Is it very red?”
Nan Yanzhou: “Mmm, as red as a monkey’s butt.”
As soon as this was said, Su Shixiao knew Nan Yanzhou was teasing him. He turned his head, not wanting to talk to him, feeling a slight sense of grievance. He muttered very softly, “You guys are annoying.”
Nan Yanzhou didn’t quite hear what he said. He looked at him and asked, “Are you cursing me?”
“No,” Su Shixiao stood up from his seat, looking him straight in the eyes. “Excuse me, I need to go to the restroom. Thank you.”
Nan Yanzhou stepped back. Su Shixiao instinctively rubbed his temples because of his dizziness and walked away.
Nan Yanzhou saw that he wasn’t walking steadily and knew he was genuinely drunk. He saw Su Shizhi taking care of the drunk Su Shibei in another corner, so he had no choice but to follow Su Shixiao. After all, he was his friend’s younger brother, and it would be troublesome if anything happened to him here.
Inside the restroom, Su Shixiao walked to the sink and splashed some water on his face. Seeing the person in the mirror, he turned around. “Mr. Nan, why are you here?”
Nan Yanzhou walked in from the doorway. “I saw you were tipsy, so I followed to see what you’d be like when drunk. But it seems you’re not that drunk right now. I’ll be going.”
He turned and left after speaking.
Su Shixiao looked at his retreating back. The grievances and disappointment he felt in the private room were swept away, replaced by a warmth as if sunshine had shone into a corner of his heart.
He used the restroom, then left and sent a message to He Junsui and his brother before heading home.
When he woke up the next morning, Su Shixiao had a headache for a while. He stayed in bed for about half an hour, then saw his younger brother’s iPad on the desk. He thought the iPad was quite good to use, so he went to the official website and bought one for himself.
After washing up, he went downstairs for breakfast. When he entered the kitchen, he only saw his grandparents; everyone else was still asleep.
Su Shixiao pulled out a chair. “Grandpa, Grandma, morning.”
“Morning,” Grandfather Su looked toward the staircase. “Are Xiao Bei and Shizhi not up for breakfast yet?”
Su Shixiao sat down and served himself a bowl of seafood congee. “I don’t know. I just woke up and haven’t seen them.”
“How can they not eat breakfast?” Grandmother Su said. “Xiao Xiao, go wake them up for breakfast. Especially Xiao Bei, he’s still young, he can’t skip breakfast.”
“Grandma, Xiao Bei is 21, he’s not small anymore,” Su Shixiao put the spoon into the bowl. “He’ll get up himself when he’s hungry.”
Grandmother Su was instantly silenced. She only then remembered that Xiao Xiao was only one year older than Xiao Bei. She had always thought Xiao Xiao was much older than Xiao Bei and didn’t know what to say for a moment.
When he went to work on Monday, as soon as he reached his desk, he heard colleagues say that Sister Wu’s game character design had received praise from the leadership. The character design was very eye-catching and attractive, and with minor modifications, it could be used directly in the game. She was specifically asked to design important villain characters in the game.
He only heard the general idea and went to eat breakfast, not joining their gossip.
In the afternoon, Sister Wu walked up to him with her head held high, placing a folder of documents in front of him. She said haughtily, “Considering that I’m the one training you, I’ll let you take charge of this character. Don’t say I didn’t look out for you. Doing things yourself leaves the deepest impression. Remember to send it to me when you’re done.”
“Oh.” Su Shixiao was confused, but he agreed without thinking too much.
