- Chapter 14 - The Remaining Three Targets (Though, I Don't Want to Meet Them)
“First, the most recent event to talk about is today’s ‘Ghost Prince.’ Rick, what did he say?”
“Well, he asked if I could see him. I told him that I could, and then he said he wanted to talk slowly, so he invited me to his room tonight.”
As I answered, both Ray and Max froze, their bodies going rigid.
“Pa… Pat? Isn’t that a bit too trusting? I’ve been thinking this for a while now, but Pat, you’re a little too weak against pressure, aren’t you?”
“Eh, are you the one to say that, Ray?”
I mean, the one who’s been pushing things from the start is definitely Ray, right?
“That’s clearly an event meant for the heroine, right? Rick, are you actually the heroine?”
“Of course not! I’m a guy!”
I respond, somewhat irritated, while Max looks at me skeptically, eyeing me up and down.
“…No, wait. Like in ‘Ikemen Paradise,’ maybe you’re secretly a girl in disguise…”
“That’s not it! And what’s this ‘Ikemen Paradise’? You’re making fun of me again, aren’t you?”
“No, no, ‘Ikemen Paradise’ is a classic!”
Max answers with a completely serious face.
I’ve been wondering about the naming sense in other worlds, but seriously, what’s going on with that?
While Max and I continue our pointless arguing, Ray, who has somehow moved to the sofa, lets out an exasperated voice.
“Excuse me, could we hurry up and get to the point?”
Pfft, look at that pout.
It’s almost unfair how someone with good looks like him can still make such an expression and still look great.
“Stop sulking, ‘Academy Prince.'”
“Wha—What’s with this ‘Academy Prince’ thing?”
“It’s your nickname, Raymond. You know, like how game characters get nicknames.”
Though, to be fair, a world without ‘games’ like ours probably doesn’t have such a culture. It’s more like a title or nickname, I guess?
And calling him ‘Academy Prince’… well, that’s actually pretty fitting.
But still, the image I first had of ‘Raymond-sama’ as the ‘perfect nobleman’ has changed quite a bit.
I think I actually find him easier to get along with now. But, of course, thinking that about a future Duke is rather disrespectful, isn’t it…
“Ugh! Enough of this, just get on with the story! The sun is setting!”
Ray says in an annoyed tone.
Sure enough, if we keep this up, we’ll never get anywhere.
“Ah, sorry, sorry. Anyway, this event just happened, and it’s important. Meeting all the targets is a requirement for the Eternal True End, after all.”
Max says, looking at a screen filled with a lot of information.
“He said he’d come over, right? Can’t we also introduce him to Angelica?”
“They’re both in the same dorm, so it’s probably possible. Do you want me to invite Angel to my room too?”
As I say this, once again, Ray and Max freeze, their bodies stiffening.
Is this déjà vu?
“Sigh… Rick, aren’t you supposed to be from a noble family? You must be smart, but you don’t understand basic common sense, do you?”
“Oh, right. Prince Crissford is a spirit, so if it’s just the two of us in my room with Angel, the situation might look bad. I guess that could be awkward.”
Max says, looking a bit exasperated. I immediately feel a bit embarrassed. This was my mistake.
“It’s not just about appearances! I told you, that woman is dangerous! What if something happens?”
What does ‘something’ mean, exactly?
I can’t blame Ray; his perception of Angelica is still pretty harsh.
Wait… isn’t Ray also one of the targets?
That means Ray and Angel need to get along too, right? Otherwise, we won’t meet the conditions for the Eternal True End…
Uh oh, here comes a new challenge.
While I’m pondering this, Max seems to have made up his mind.
“Alright. I’ll be there with you.”
“Then… I’ll go too!”
Max says this, then raises his hand to stop Ray, who spoke up afterward.
“It would seem unnatural.”
“Ugh…”
“Angelica, Rick, and I are classmates. We can easily say I came to check on them as class representative or that we were planning to study together.”
That’s a reasonable argument.
Ray, who’s slumped with his shoulders drooping, does look a bit pitiful, but there’s nothing that can be done about it.
“Well then, I’ll submit the notice to the dorm supervisor!”
“Yeah, please. So, Raymond, today I’ll be the one to escort Rick to the dorm.”
Ray, who had been looking down, suddenly lifts his face.
“Th-Then at least let me do it!”
“No, it would be odd if Raymond took Rick in the carriage and I followed behind in mine.”
…Yeah.
Both the Duke’s and the Marquis’s carriages stand out. Two fabulous and marvelous carriages driving side by side would just attract unwanted attention.
For now, I’ll avoid looking at Ray, who has that abandoned puppy look in his eyes. It’s dangerous to get attached to him.
I quickly avert my gaze from Ray and my eyes land on a white screen.
“Hey, who are the other targets? There are three more, right?”
“The main target is just one more. It’s the young Count, an aspiring knight, who the heroine meets at her part-time job. If things are going well, Angelica may have already met him.”
Max says this, and I recall the conversation I had with Angelica about a week ago.
Since Angelica sits next to me, we talk a lot and get along just fine.
“Now that you mention it, Angelica did say she started a part-time job recently!”
“Is that so? Well then, we should gather some information about that today.”
I see. It’s entirely possible that the romance is progressing on Angelica’s side…
After all, Angelica is the heroine of this game.
“The other two are hidden and bonus characters, so it’s unlikely we’ll meet them right away, but they’re essential for reaching the Eternal True End…”
From Max’s muttering about them being ‘colorful characters,’ all I can feel is an ominous atmosphere.
…Oh, maybe I don’t want to meet them.
