- Chapter 6 - The Heroine Arrives! Meeting the Commoner Saintess, Angelica
“I’m Angelica! You can call me Angie♡”
“No way… she actually showed up…”
◇◇◇
And just like that, two more weeks passed, and I had somehow become one of the most talked-about students in the academy.
Worse still, among a certain faction of noble ladies, I was now regarded as “the obstacle standing between the dream pairing.”
Some of them looked at me as if they were contemplating assassination.
No, you’ve got it all wrong!
I’m not between them—look carefully!
I’m just a powerless noble barely clinging on for dear life as I get pressed from both sides.
…Wait.
Does that mean I actually am caught in the middle?!
“Oh my! It’s Lord Raymond and Lord Maxwell!”
“They’re both so breathtakingly handsome…”
“They’ve been spending a lot of time together lately. Could it be that they share a special bond?!”
Apparently, when I stand between two towering high-ranking nobles, my entire existence physically disappears from certain angles.
The noble ladies, who had been brimming with excitement over the sight of Lord Raymond and Lord Maxwell together, suddenly deflated the moment they noticed me standing between them.
“Tch! That guy’s in the way!”
…Excuse me?!
For a moment, I genuinely thought I had developed mind-reading abilities.
Did they really just say that out loud?!
Did a noble lady just click her tongue at me?!
At least pretend to keep your thoughts to yourselves!
I might actually cry.
◇◇◇
Later, I found out something shocking—Lord Maxwell had apparently kept his status as a reincarnator a secret from those around him.
Considering how openly he had spilled everything to me, I had assumed it was common knowledge.
But according to him, since “the original Maxwell wasn’t written as a reincarnator,” he worried that revealing the truth would disrupt the scenario.
His dedication to preserving the source material is borderline obsessive.
As a result, the rare opportunity to discuss the game with someone must have been exhilarating for him, because ever since that day, Lord Maxwell had taken quite a liking to me.
Now that I was someone who “knew his secret,” he felt comfortable talking freely.
“Maintaining Maxwell’s in-game character persona all the time is exhausting! You’re just what I needed—be my emotional support friend!”
He said it with such a bright smile that I almost cried.
◇◇◇
I had been hoping—desperately—that all of Lord Raymond and Lord Maxwell’s claims were just delusions.
It would have been easier if their theories about reincarnation and time loops were nothing more than their personal fantasies.
But then—
Just as they predicted—the transfer student actually arrived.
“I’m Angelica! You can call me Angie♡”
“No way… she actually showed up…”
Standing at the front of the classroom beside the teacher, Angelica looked like something straight out of a sugar-coated fantasy.
Her large, round pink eyes had a gentle, slightly droopy shape. Her hair—matching her eye color—was arranged in a soft, intricate half-up braid, adorned with a red ribbon that suited her perfectly.
“Let’s see… There should be an empty seat near the back. Angelica, you may sit there. Patrick, please show her around and help her adjust.”
My seat was in the very last row, at the farthest end of the classroom.
I had assumed the seating arrangement reflected noble status, so I never questioned it—but I never expected it to be a trap.
Without a hint of nervousness, Angelica gracefully walked from the front of the classroom to the very back, completely unfazed by the stares of the entire class.
Wow…
She’s adorable.
Is she really a commoner?
Her hair is so silky and shiny, her skin is flawless, and she even smells nice.
After taking the seat beside me, Angelica tilted her head slightly, smiling sweetly as she gazed up at me.
“I don’t know anything about noble society… I’m so glad my seat is next to someone who seems kind! Please teach me all about it, Lord Patrick.”
——This is how people fall in love…
“…OWWWWWWW?!”
Just as I was getting dangerously drawn in by Angelica’s charm, a sharp pain shot through my backside.
W-what the—?!
It felt like an **electric shock—**why does it hurt so much?!
With a sharp snap of my head, I looked forward—only to see Lord Maxwell’s shoulders trembling as he struggled to hold back his laughter.
…It was him! He’s the culprit!!
◇◇◇
“Seriously, Lord Maxwell! What was that for?! I thought my backside was going to split in four!”
“Let me take a look.”
“You pervert!!”
—Lunchtime.
Tearfully, I marched over to Lord Maxwell to lodge a formal complaint, but before I could properly voice my grievances, Lord Raymond arrived to invite us to lunch—only to drag both of us to the courtyard with him.
“…Lately, Patrick has been spending all his time with Maxwell…”
Pouting, Lord Raymond was now plucking out random weeds.
Please stop.
That is not in character for you, Lord Raymond!!
◇◇◇
The academy’s courtyard featured several pavilions designed for students to enjoy lunch or afternoon tea. However, we were currently seated in one of the most luxurious gazebos, exclusively reserved for high-ranking nobles.
“Equality within the academy, regardless of noble status,” huh?
They sure love saying that—despite the obvious class distinctions everywhere.
“Apologies for the wait. Here is today’s ‘Chef’s Whimsical Sandwich.’”
A familiar, ever-smiling waiter—the same one who served us in the private dining room—arrived, gracefully setting down the dish before us.
So, apparently, today’s whimsy involved randomly shoving ingredients between slices of bread.
I see.
◇◇◇
“By the way, I heard your class got a new transfer student. What’s she like?”
Perhaps feeling better now, Lord Raymond had returned to his usual demeanor, prompted by the arrival of food.
Oh, right!
Today was the day—the commoner saintess, Angelica, had finally appeared.
…Wait.
“Are you two really fine just sitting here with me?”
Lord Raymond was supposed to be working to save Lady Violetta from a tragic fate.
Lord Maxwell was desperately trying to preserve the integrity of his beloved game’s scenario.
Their goals were completely different, but Angelica, the commoner saintess, was supposed to be an extremely important figure.
Yet, here they were, casually having lunch instead of rushing to investigate.
Was this really okay?
