I Have been Reincarnated As a Lazy, Arrogant Noble, but When I Destroyed The Scenario Through Effort, I Became The Most Powerful With Extraordinary Magical Power - 39
039 – Duke Billian
I decided to enroll at Noblesse Academy because I was bored.
I don’t mean to brag, but I consider myself reasonably talented.
I don’t mind training my body, and studying comes easily to me.
But… it was all just dull.
The Billian family received their title thanks to the achievements of our ancestors as knights.
As the eldest son, I had to fulfill my responsibilities and attend various bothersome noble gatherings.
I dislike dancing, but I’m not bad at it.
And… meeting my childhood friend, Shari, was enjoyable.
Love and all that, I haven’t really thought about it.
Being with her is fun, and although she’s a noble, she seems to have an easygoing personality. I don’t quite understand it myself.
“Duke, what do you want to do in the future?”
“…I don’t know.”
I’m good with socializing. I like talking to people, and I know I’m pretty good at communication.
But I just didn’t have anything I wanted to do.
It might sound annoying to say I can do anything, but if I have to put it into words, that’s how it is.
However, when I’m training my body, I don’t have to think about unnecessary things, and during fist-fighting matches, I might feel the most excited. But to do that alone in the future? It’s not really my thing.
Still, I was passing the time happily. Then one day, Shari became friends with a commoner named Alan.
I didn’t feel jealous or anything. I was curious about what kind of person he was, so I went to meet him, and he turned out to be quite an interesting guy.
I don’t mean to make fun of him, but he shamelessly talked about grand dreams.
Even if people talk about abolishing nobility, I’m not particularly bothered. I just thought ideals were important.
In fact, I know that this world is corrupt.
Before I knew it, the three of us often hung out together. I didn’t decide to enroll at the academy just because of them, but I thought it would be nice to find something interesting as well.
I overslept on the day of the entrance ceremony, but thanks to being from the Billian family, Noblesse Academy managed to accommodate me for the exams. I had heard it was tough, but they seemed to be flexible.
Maybe it’s because I’m from the Billian family? I don’t know.
“I lost…”
After the exams, Alan was feeling down.
I had never seen him so dejected before.
He’s always been lively and bright. Well, not as much as me, though.
“Who was your opponent?”
“Weiss Fancent. Duke, you’ve heard of him, right?”
“Weiss, huh?”
Shari told me his name, and I was honestly quite surprised.
The eldest son of the Fancent family, Weiss Fancent.
He’s infamous, and everyone knows him. Well, I don’t believe rumors, as I’m the type to see things with my own eyes, but it’s probably not entirely wrong if it’s spreading that much.
But what surprised me more was that Alan lost.
He’s a commoner, so to speak, but he’s grown so strong at an astonishing speed, even without receiving special education.
His growth rate since deciding to enroll has been honestly laughable.
We’ve fought many times and fainted together, and we’ve become best friends.
And yet, Alan lost?… I didn’t like that.
It was the first time I felt such strong emotions.
Of course, there were times when I felt frustrated losing to Alan, but I always felt that he was a genius and didn’t feel that upset about it. Well, maybe a little? No, quite a bit?
But Weiss is different.
He… works harder than me.
I think that’s why it made me even more frustrated.
Humans are born with talents.
Of course, Weiss has his own talents too.
But he goes beyond that, sweating and bleeding, always looking ahead.
I became convinced of that one night in the training room.
I was thinking of doing my daily muscle training, but he was swinging his sword alone.
It’s not a rare sight in this academy.
What caught my attention was how he pushed himself.
He was desperately fighting against something or someone.
He has goals that I don’t know about.
I strongly felt that.
From then on, I secretly considered Weiss as my rival. He probably doesn’t think of me that way, but well, that’s fine.
When we were together in survival training, I honestly didn’t like it.
It was nice to see him up close, but I wanted to surpass him.
But he’s just amazing. He’s smart, and above all, he’s straightforward.
Shari says he’s the opposite of Allen, but I don’t see it that way.
They are alike. They may seem like polar opposites, but at their core, they are the same.
Oh, I… I want to defeat them.
Before I knew it, I had set my goal.
The future? What’s to come? I don’t care about that.
I can do anything; I’m even better at socializing than them.
But that’s all trivial.
I want to win. Before I graduate from this academy, I want to defeat them.
I know it’s difficult, and when I see them, I feel like I’m just a supporting character.
But I’m always watching them in my own way.
I’ll surpass them. Definitely.
I am Duke, the eldest son of the Billian family.
I have muscles, I’m smart, and I’m good at talking.
But those things don’t mean a thing.
I will definitely surpass those two.
And I’ll make them acknowledge it.
That I’m the best.
