I Have been Reincarnated As a Lazy, Arrogant Noble, but When I Destroyed The Scenario Through Effort, I Became The Most Powerful With Extraordinary Magical Power - 105
Chapter 105: Defiant Ones
First, we visited the town of Tortoise, the closest one to Duran. We needed to take the almost straight road through the North Gate to reach Duran, following the route that the Aria Magic Academy had planned.
Upon arrival, Milch Sensei immediately headed to the Adventurer’s Guild to gather the latest information. She believed that too large a group might be a hindrance, so the rest of us waited outside.
The town itself hadn’t changed much, and it appeared quite ordinary and reasonably large.
“Regarding the demon-like creatures, do you understand that they gain strong abilities from the Deviants?” I explained to Tula.
“That’s the correct understanding. But, in exchange, there are drawbacks. They lose their sense of self and become vulnerable to what is known as mental combat,” she replied.
Eva, with a meaningful smile, added, “The demon-like creatures in the east that I encountered were quite interesting. It’s been a while since I had a challenge.”
Her words took us by surprise, as Eva found it interesting? If such beings had attacked the Aria Magic Academy…
“What was this person like? Do you know his name or anything?” I inquired.
“His name was Grizz. He was incredibly fast,” she replied.
Grizz was a name I had never heard before. It was undeniable; changes were taking place.
“Eva, Tula, please understand that I don’t want you to overexert yourselves. This is a senior’s order,” Sierra emphasized, her tone not as casual as usual.
I nodded silently, acknowledging her concern. Tula also seemed to notice Sierra’s unease and assured her that she understood.
At that moment, Milch Sensei returned.
“How did it go?” I inquired.
“It seems there’s no contact from the advance team. The soldiers from the nearest country are set to assemble here in about 30 minutes,” she reported.
“What about the Aria Magic Academy?” I asked.
“No contact from there either. So, what’s our next move?” Milch Sensei wondered.
I knew why the fiery Milch Sensei was troubled.
“Let’s go. We’ll be fine,” I replied.
As a disciple, I could quickly notice when something was amiss.
“Alright. I’ll lead the way. Sierra, Weiss, and Tula, follow me. Eva, you’ll cover our rear,” Milch Sensei instructed.
We responded with a unanimous “Understood.”
We dashed out from the North Gate, as if leaping into action. This area consisted of a single road with rock walls on both sides, making it prone to landslides.
As I looked up at the sky, the setting sun became visible. According to the plan, the students would have finished their joint training and been having a meal together. However, the demon-like creatures had disrupted these arrangements.
Lost in these thoughts, we continued forward as a united front. Suddenly, we sensed disturbances in magical energy ahead.
Almost simultaneously, all of us noticed it.
Milch Sensei warned us, “Stay alert.”
At the bend in the road, near the center, we saw an overturned carriage, with people lying around. Some were bleeding and had torn clothes, indicating they were severely injured or deceased.
However, there were no uniforms from the Aria Magic Academy, so these were likely members of the advance team of adventurers.
We released our magical energy, but there seemed to be nothing suspicious around.
“Wait here,” Milch Sensei said as she approached the carriage alone, then returned shaking her head. “There’s no one inside.”
All the students at the Aria Magic Academy were among the top in their year, and the accompanying teachers were skilled as well. While the academy itself was not exceptionally impressive, they weren’t weak.
Had they escaped, or had they been abducted?
However, the mere fact that the advance team was wiped out suggested that there were powerful demon-like creatures among them.
We remained vigilant, creating a timeline of events in our minds.
It had been around half a year, or perhaps even a year, since the story’s pace had quickened. So, the possibility of the demon-like creatures showing up around this time was high.
But even without considering such things, we were faced with an enemy.
“Hehe, this is great. What a time it is… Prey comes right to me,” a man, unshaven and appearing to be in his forties, emerged from somewhere.
He was standing further down the road than the overturned carriage. His scruffy brown attire may have looked shabby, but there was no vulnerability in his demeanor.
I observed him with my Analytical Vision and Time-Lapse Flashes, and I was shocked.
Because…
“Everyone, this is one of the demon-like creatures,” I announced.
My words put everyone on high alert. I had a keen eye for observing magical energy. Furthermore, I could use all attributes of magic.
Like when I examined the ring on Andet Island.
The demon-like creature was of the darkness attribute, constructed through complex magical arts.
However, this one clearly possessed self-awareness.
And he spoke fluently, recognizing us.
This is unbelievable…
In the original story, demon-like creatures were treated as enhanced subordinates of the demons. They were stronger than regular monsters but lacked self-awareness.
However…
“Weiss, calm down. There might be more of them,” Milch Sensei said, perhaps sensing my agitation.
She was right. I needed to focus on the current situation.
Sierra and Eva were the first to notice it. They were on high alert, radiating magical energy in all directions.
“Now, let the match begin, showtime!” the man shouted, and in an instant, Milch Sensei and Tula instantly drew their swords.
Their techniques were quite similar. Sierra and I leaped to positions where we wouldn’t obstruct them.
In the next moment, Tula swung her sword horizontally, and Milch Sensei did the same vertically.
“Air Slash—”
“Haaaa!”
Their invisible slashes struck at the man.
They were fast and carried a sharp, unhesitating magical force. However…
“Jump Leap—”
Another woman, who appeared right in front of us, lightly lifted the man into the air, then swung her vertical slash while in mid-air to evade their attacks.
She had red hair and seemed to be in her twenties. She wasn’t very tall and wore the same brown attire as the man.
What’s more, she effortlessly lifted the man with one hand.
“That was close… Thanks, Mika.”
“Really… Captain Blurr, if you’d taken that, you’d be dead now.”
Their magical energy was intense, but their sudden appearance was baffling.
At that moment, a voice came from behind. It was another man.
We turned our gazes, and Eva was evading his attacks. He had blond hair and held something akin to a spear. He, too, wore the same brown attire.
I felt like I’d seen them somewhere before… Yes…
“These are the Disobeys, the Defiant Ones!” I shouted on the spot.
My words seemed to make Milch Sensei, who was the most surprised, realize something.
Likely, Sierra, Eva, and Tula were already aware.
Because they had studied it in history class.
In the world of Noblesse Oblige, travel between countries and the existence of adventurers were possible now thanks to the accumulated history.
In the past, wars between nations were intense, and conflicts were always ongoing.
Of course, magic had existed since those times.
Among those who constantly honed their skills in battles, there were some particularly ruthless soldiers.
They were the Defiant Ones, Disobeys.
They had repeatedly violated orders, slaughtered civilians, and were eventually imprisoned and sentenced to death.
But these people had definitely died around 100 years ago. I also remembered it from the historical section of the original work. It was unrelated to the main story, just a fact from the past.
However, they were here now, and they had self-awareness.
“What? Are we being called the Defiant Ones, Disobeys? Is that how they refer to us? Well then, all of you, let’s go!”
The next moment, after Captain Blurr shouted, magical energy burst from the ground, and many people appeared.
Their magical abilities were exploding, sparking like electricity. They rushed towards us.
The unique feature of the demon-like creatures was that their inherent abilities evolved explosively.
Historical wars involved conflicts between countries, and likely, there were many assassinations and covert operations.
So, the concealment magic of one of these individuals had evolved exponentially.
I readied my sword.
But there were more than ten Defiant Ones.
Each of them had magical power similar to the legendary Tucker and, further, unknown abilities.
But we would win.
I had trained for this very purpose, developing an unwavering spirit.
And beyond my strong determination, someone acted even faster than I did.
Eva Avery.
She radiated an astonishing amount of magical power.
In the next moment, the Defiant Ones surrounding us were thrown against the wall with incredible force.
I didn’t know what she had done, but I knew.
I had realized it when I faced her before.
Eva had an invisible hand… that could do things.
“Hehe, this is getting interesting. Now, let’s see if you can entertain me,” the woman said.
