I Heard I’m a Scummy Alpha? [Transmigration] - Chapter 13
When the butler returned from grocery shopping, Qi Yunwei took the chance to chat with him and learn a bit about Yan Zui’s daily life at home.
It turned out the butler had only started working for the Yan family during Yan Zui’s high school years. By then, she had already moved into a dormitory, only coming home once a month. Their interactions were mostly limited to mealtimes. Later, when Yan Zui went to university, those visits dwindled to once every six months. After earning her doctorate, she joined the Yan Corporation, starting from department manager and steadily working her way up through sheer capability to where she was today.
The butler sighed.
“Master has always placed great expectations on Miss. She works tirelessly so as not to disappoint him. Though the villa up on the hillside is more comfortable, it’s too far from the company, so she chose to move into this apartment instead.”
Then, with a small smile, he added to Qi Yunwei,
“And really, Miss Yunwei, we have to thank you. In the past two years, Miss rarely came home, perhaps once during the New Year. But ever since marrying you, she’s already returned to the villa several times. Master and Madam may not say much, but in their hearts, I’m sure they’re happy.”
Qi Yunwei followed his lead politely.
“If I have time, I’ll bring Yan Zui back to visit Father and Mother more often.”
The butler smiled.
“They’ll be very comforted to know that.”
But Qi Yunwei herself wasn’t convinced.
If Yan Zhao and He Ran truly cared about Yan Zui, they wouldn’t have forced such a hasty marriage upon her.
Yan Zui’s apartment was close to the Yan Corporation headquarters—just a ten-minute drive, or about half an hour on foot.
Near eleven o’clock, the butler finished cooking, carefully packed the dishes into a sleek insulated lunchbox, and handed it to Qi Yunwei. As she walked toward the apartment gates, she wondered how she would get to the company. Then she spotted a row of shared bicycles at the roadside. Without hesitation, she picked one.
The Yan Corporation tower was impossible to miss—the tallest building in the city center.
Cycling there, Qi Yunwei got her first glimpse of Guangnan’s bustling downtown. When she arrived, she parked the bike, grabbed the lunchbox, and headed inside.
She hadn’t bought new clothes yet, still wearing the original host’s favorite outfit: a plain white T-shirt and light blue jeans. Her cheeks, flushed pink from the ride, and her clear black eyes gave her the look of a university student—completely out of place among the polished professionals coming and going. The receptionist noticed her immediately as she walked through the doors.
Knowing how seriously Yan Zui took her work, Qi Yunwei didn’t dare disturb her ahead of time. She hadn’t even told her she was coming. Fortunately, the butler had given her a spare elevator pass, one that granted direct access to Yan Zui’s floor.
Around lunchtime, the front desk was always crowded with delivery orders stacked up.
The receptionist assumed she was just another student doing part-time delivery work. But instead of heading to the usual drop-off spot, Qi Yunwei looked around once and then made her way toward the executives-only elevator.
“Hey! Miss!” the receptionist called quickly.
Qi Yunwei turned instinctively, wondering who she was calling “miss”—only to meet the receptionist’s eyes.
“You mean me?”
The receptionist nodded.
“Miss, that elevator is reserved for executives. You can’t use it. You should call the person you’re delivering to and have them come down.”
Qi Yunwei imagined Yan Zui walking downstairs to fetch lunch in front of the entire company lobby at peak noon traffic. The glamorous CEO would cause a scene instantly.
She smiled lightly.
“Thanks, but it’s fine. I’ll take it up myself.”
And she continued toward the elevator.
The receptionist stared, baffled. Hadn’t she just explained the rules? Yet the next second left her gaping in shock—eyes wide, mouth open.
Qi Yunwei pulled out the elevator card the housekeeper had given her, tapped it against the reader—beep!—and the doors slid open.
She stepped in, pressed the button for the top floor, and the elevator began to rise.
When the doors opened, she carried the lunchbox down the hall, turned the corner, and arrived at the executive secretary’s office.
Just as the clock struck noon, a man and woman in black suits stepped out. Spotting Qi Yunwei, they both froze.
The woman, sharp-eyed, immediately noticed the elevator card in Qi Yunwei’s hand. Smiling politely, she asked,
“Hello, may I ask what brings you here?”
Whoever this young woman was, if she had an executive pass, she was certainly connected to someone important.
The man lingered a few paces away, choosing not to approach.
Qi Yunwei held up the lunchbox.
“Hello, I’m here to bring President Yan her lunch.”
If she had a pass, she clearly wasn’t just a delivery runner. The woman’s smile warmed.
“President Yan is in her office. I’ll take you there.”
“Thank you.” Qi Yunwei replied.
Following her lead, Qi Yunwei reached the CEO’s office door. The woman knocked politely.
From inside came Yan Zui’s cool voice.
“Enter.”
The woman pushed the door open, gesturing Qi Yunwei in while she stayed back.
“President Yan, this lady is here to deliver your lunch.”
Lunch? The butler hadn’t mentioned anything about that.
Yan Zui put down her pen and looked up. For a brief moment, surprise flickered across her face.
“Why are you here?”
Qi Yunwei smiled, lifting the lunchbox in her hand.
“I was worried you wouldn’t enjoy company food, so I brought you a homemade lunch.”
Yan Zui pressed her lips together. Then she turned to the woman still lingering at the door.
“Secretary Shen, you can go have your meal now.”
Homemade lunch.
Secretary Shen had never seen an Alpha address Yan Zui with such casual intimacy. Her heart buzzed with gossip, but she forced herself to remain composed, nodded, and said evenly,
“Understood, President Yan.”
She even closed the door for them on her way out.
Inside the office, Qi Yunwei set the lunchbox down on an empty corner of Yan Zui’s desk, shaking out her sore arms.
“Hungry? Do you want to eat now? Should we go to the cafeteria, or just eat here in the office?”
When no answer came, Qi Yunwei looked up, puzzled.
Yan Zui’s expression was icy.
“I never asked you to bring me food. And you didn’t inform me beforehand.”
Qi Yunwei widened her eyes innocently.
“I forgot—really forgot.”
There was already more than enough about this ABO world she hadn’t fully processed.
Yan Zui’s gaze clearly showed she didn’t believe her. Qi Yunwei decided not to dwell on it, quickly steering the subject elsewhere.
“Uncle Jiang was so delighted when I told him I’d deliver lunch to you. If Father and Mother hear from him that our relationship is close enough to share every meal, they’ll be reassured. Then the Shen can go home, and you won’t have to force yourself to share a bed with me anymore.”
At that, the tips of Yan Zui’s ears—hidden beneath her long hair—warmed slightly as she recalled the morning scene.
Qi Yunwei wasn’t wrong. She truly didn’t want to share a bed with her.
Even if the truth was that she had rolled into Qi Yunwei’s arms in her sleep, it was entirely possible Qi Yunwei had staged the whole scene before she woke.
Yan Zui’s eyes turned cold, with a trace of mockery.
“You’re right. But making my father believe it won’t work if we’re only putting on a show for Uncle Jiang.”
She glanced at the lunchbox on her desk.
“Bring it. We’re going to the cafeteria.”
If they were going to put on an act—better to let the whole company see.
