I Heard I’m a Scummy Alpha? [Transmigration] - Chapter 15
“Look, she just handed President Yan a pair of chopsticks. I told you, she must be her assistant.”
“Then why are President Yan and an assistant staring at each other for so long?”
“She even picked up food for President Yan!”
“They’re eating together???”
“Who on earth is she???”
The more intimate Yan Zui and Qi Yunwei’s interactions appeared, the more sour the whispers became. The adoring gazes once directed at Yan Zui instantly turned into icy blades stabbing straight at Qi Yunwei.
So many piercing stares fell on her at once that it was impossible for Qi Yunwei not to notice.
She finished her last bite of food, set down her chopsticks, and leaned toward Yan Zui, who was still savoring her sweet-and-sour ribs.
“Yan Zui,” she murmured, “I think they’ve figured it out. If you lift your head and smile at me right now, by this afternoon the whole company will be buzzing about how we showed off our love in the cafeteria.”
Yan Zui glanced up at her. “No. That would be too deliberate.”
Qi Yunwei pressed on. “Come on, we’re already here. I stole their goddess—of course they hate me. Since they hate me anyway, why not let them hate me thoroughly?”
Yan Zui finished her last rib, put down her chopsticks, and said calmly, “I can’t just smile at you out of nowhere. It doesn’t make sense.”
“Love doesn’t follow logic,” Qi Yunwei replied with the confidence of someone who had been single since birth. “Besides, you’re the one who suggested eating here. Don’t tell me you want to leave empty-handed?”
Yan Zui had always kept a frosty face toward Qi Yunwei. Since the day they met, she had never once smiled at her. To suddenly force a smile now felt impossible.
Still, Qi Yunwei had a point—coming here without making a statement would be a wasted opportunity.
“Your hair is a little messy,” Yan Zui said suddenly.
“My hair?” Qi Yunwei repeated—and immediately realized what Yan Zui meant.
Using the excuse of “messy hair” as a pretext to touch her, even if Yan Zui kept her expression cold, the impact would be explosive.
Without giving Qi Yunwei time to react, Yan Zui lifted her hand. Her slender fingers, pale with a faint pink glow, brushed against the strands beside Qi Yunwei’s cheek, smoothing them gently.
A tingling sensation crawled across Qi Yunwei’s scalp. Before she had the chance to feel shy, Xiaoman’s excited voice rang in her mind:
【Master! Energy detected! I need ten more seconds of contact. Grab Yan Zui’s hand—don’t let go!】
Almost reflexively, Qi Yunwei lifted her own hand, covering Yan Zui’s cool, delicate fingers with her warm palm. Guiding her, she slid Yan Zui’s hand from her hair down to her cheek.
The warmth in Yan Zui’s gaze instantly froze into ice. She tried twice to pull her hand back, but Qi Yunwei didn’t release her. Anger flushed Yan Zui’s fair cheeks.
“Qi Yunwei. Let go.”
【7, 6, 5】
“Just a little longer,” Qi Yunwei coaxed softly. “The longer the better. Look at their faces—they all look like they want to kill me already.”
【4, 3, 2, 1. Done!】
The moment the countdown ended, Qi Yunwei released her.
From around them came a flurry of whispers:
“She doesn’t seem like anything special. Why would President Yan be interested in her?”
“She must’ve clung to President Yan shamelessly. But wait—President Yan touched her hair first!”
“Ahhhh, she’s holding President Yan’s hand now—smiling, too! Let go already!”
“President Yan is blushing! No, no, this can’t be happening. My goddess would never like someone like that. I must’ve seen wrong!”
The hostile glares were so sharp, Qi Yunwei felt as though she might not make it out of the building alive.
Yan Zui, too, had noticed the waves of ill will surrounding them. “This time, I was the one who moved first, so I’ll let it go. But from now on, without my permission, don’t ever touch me again. Qi Yunwei, you do not want to know the consequences of breaking that rule.”
Qi Yunwei, buoyed by having secured the code, wasn’t fazed at all. “I promise. Next time, I’ll only touch you with your consent.”
Yan Zui didn’t understand what she had to be so pleased about. Those dark eyes glittered dangerously as she warned, “My patience with you is limited. Don’t count on luck.”
“You can relax. Just this once. I only acted impulsively because I was too eager.” Qi Yunwei’s resolve was firm—if she wanted to help Yan Zui, she couldn’t afford carelessness. Her rivals were abnormal enough that one misstep could ruin her. She had to tread carefully.
“If looks could kill, I’d have died hundreds of times already,” Qi Yunwei muttered. Then, hopefully, she asked, “Yan Zui, could you maybe walk me out later?”
Yan Zui’s temper hadn’t cooled. Her voice was cold. “No.”
“I thought so.” Qi Yunwei gave a resigned smile. “Then I’ll wait until everyone’s back at work before I leave.”
At least when people were busy, they wouldn’t have time to glare daggers at her.
She stood, tidied up the lunchbox, and said, “There’s still more than an hour before two o’clock. I’ll wait in your office for a bit.”
Yan Zui’s eyes narrowed, sharp with distrust.
“I’ll just sit on the sofa and zone out,” Qi Yunwei assured her quickly. “I swear I won’t cause trouble.”
Only then did Yan Zui reluctantly agree.
Under countless watching eyes, Qi Yunwei beamed as she stepped to Yan Zui’s side, and the two of them left the cafeteria together.
The glass doors swung shut behind them, and the employees erupted in an uproar, voicing their indignation.
“It has to be a business marriage! In reality, that woman is nowhere near President Yan’s level. She must’ve used tricks to get this close.”
“President Yan always eats in private rooms. Today she suddenly came to the main hall—it must’ve been that woman’s idea, just to flaunt it in front of us. So scheming! President Yan is too good for someone like her.”
“President Yan’s never been in a relationship before. She must’ve been tricked!”
“I secretly took her photo just now. Anyone here know how to dig up her background?”
“Send it to me! I can check!”
Back in the CEO’s office, Yan Zui settled behind her desk, her gaze locked firmly on Qi Yunwei’s every move.
True to her word, Qi Yunwei went straight to the sofa. She leaned back, spaced out, and began daydreaming—obviously not up to any mischief.
Just as promised.
【Master, it seems my guess was right. The energy source really is Yan Zui. As long as she touches you, I can recharge. From now on, my energy is in your hands.】
Qi Yunwei: [How long does a full charge last?]
She had just promised Yan Zui not to push her boundaries again so soon.
【In active mode, I can run for a week. In standby, I can last three months—but each time you wake me, I’ll consume ten percent.】
【But really, Master, you don’t have to worry. When you and Yan Zui sleep together at night, just a little contact will do. Nothing like this morning—you don’t need to wrap around her that much.】
Qi Yunwei : [“…”]
Thinking back to waking up with her arms around Yan Zui that morning, Qi Yunwei suddenly felt guilty.
Thank goodness Yan Zui hadn’t held it against her—otherwise, she truly wouldn’t have known how to explain.
