I Heard I’m a Scummy Alpha? [Transmigration] - Chapter 16
The news that Qi Yunwei and Yan Zui had been eating together intimately in the cafeteria spread fast. Employees who hadn’t eaten there were immediately filled in. Unsurprisingly, whenever anyone mentioned Qi Yunwei they called her “that woman,” and everyone wondered what Yan Zui saw in her — how could Yan, who had sworn off marriage, change her mind for this person? The tone, between the lines, was full of disapproval toward Qi Yunwei.
The receptionist had timed a date with her boyfriend and had just returned, oblivious to what was happening at the company.
A colleague from another department who was close to her bumped her shoulder while picking up a package and said, “You don’t know what you missed.”
The receptionist, smelling gossip, grabbed her colleague’s hand. “What did I miss? Tell me, tell me!”
Just from the colleague’s face she knew it was big gossip — she wished she hadn’t gone on that date.
Her colleague said, “I can’t say here — our manager watches everything. I’ll message you when I have time.”
The colleague hurried off, leaving the receptionist frustrated.
A juicy rumor was in front of her and she knew nothing about it.
She grew more irritated with each passing second and kept opening her colleague’s chat, waiting for the gossip to arrive.
“Hello.”
A voice overhead made the receptionist jump; she hurriedly put her phone away and forced on a professional smile. “Hello.”
When she looked up and got a clear view of the person in front of her, she recognized the woman who’d used the executive elevator with the access card earlier. Her expression warmed. “May I help you?”
Qi Yunwei remembered, after coming down, that she hadn’t seen Qin Lifeng near Yan Zui. Normally he should be by Yan’s side during work hours — she’d worked at the company long enough never to have run into him.
Could Yan have fired him? Qi Yunwei thought, which would make many things simpler. But that was unlikely.
Going upstairs to ask Yan or messaging to ask about the bodyguard felt too deliberate, so Qi Yunwei decided to try her luck at the front desk.
She smiled. “I wanted to ask — why wasn’t Yan’s bodyguard with her today?”
The receptionist blinked. “Sorry, I don’t really know anything about Yan’s bodyguard.”
“No problem,” Qi Yunwei said. “I just felt awkward asking the bodyguard directly. You know how it is — if the person you like has a handsome guy by her side, it’s natural to worry. Anyway, thank you.”
Her words left the receptionist stunned. By the time she recovered, Qi Yunwei had already walked out the company gate.
Receptionist: “!!!” What had she just heard?
The “her” in that woman’s question — it was Yan Zui!
She’d come to ask because she was worried a handsome bodyguard might steal Yan’s heart. The receptionist’s cheeks warmed and her pulse quickened; she needed to share this huge piece of gossip immediately.
Instinctively she opened her colleague’s WeChat and fired off a long message.
A “ding” and a reply popped up almost instantly.
Receptionist: I have the biggest gossip for you!!! Our President Yan seems to have a girlfriend — she looks really young, like a college student, talks super gently, and she’s absolutely, completely in love with Yan!
Colleague: You missed it at lunch! We saw President Yan and her girlfriend in the company cafeteria!!! They were so sweet, kissing and cuddling while they ate. Yan even stroked the girl’s hair! Our office Yan fangirls are absolutely dying of envy.
They both read each other’s messages and started typing at the same time.
Receptionist: !!! I regret going out so much! I really want to see what Yan and that sister are like as a couple!
Colleague: You saw her? You talked to her? How do you know she likes Yan so much?
Receptionist: Didn’t you say Yan was the more proactive one? Yan is so cold; she wouldn’t be the clingy type. I think this gentle Alpha sister likes Yan more. I only told you — don’t tell anyone else.
Colleague: Hurry! My manager will be back soon and I’ll have to stop slacking.
Receptionist: The sister asked me about Yan’s bodyguard because she thought he was too handsome and worried Yan might fall for him. But I didn’t tell her anything about Yan — I swear.
Colleague: Hmm, sounds scheming. Maybe she chased Yan relentlessly until she won her over, and now she’s already trying to manage who’s around Yan. Yan’s the decisive type — she wouldn’t like being controlled. Ha! I bet this girl won’t last a week.
Receptionist: You’re not going to complain to Yan, are you? You promised you wouldn’t tell anyone!
Colleague: I’ll only say a little; it’s for Yan’s good. Our company has thousands of employees and ninety-nine percent of them think that woman isn’t good enough for Yan. If almost everyone thinks something’s off, the problem must be that woman.
Colleague: Thanks for the scoop — I’m on it!
Reading the messages, the receptionist felt she’d dug a deep hole for herself.
Meanwhile, Qi Yunwei — who had unintentionally become the company’s public enemy by simply getting lunch delivered — didn’t go straight home. She stopped by the nearby mall, bought several outfits in her style with her own card, and then picked up a laptop — the kind every early-stage entrepreneur needs.
Back in Yan Zui’s office she and Xiaoman had been talking about how to quickly help Yan out of the trouble that seemed to be coming.
If Yan — a top-tier CEO — could be targeted by scheming people so easily, and if she’d never thought to ask her parents for help after the incident, then Yan obviously didn’t trust Yan Zhao or He Ran.
Their casual agreement to let Yan marry Qi Yunwei as a solution showed how little Yan trusted her family.
Yan had a close friend, Huang Momo, but she was a spoiled rich kid and couldn’t help. Telling her wouldn’t do anything.
After their discussion, it came down to one conclusion: the only person who could really help Yan was Qi Yunwei.
And Qi Yunwei, for now, was only a worthless, shameless live-in daughter-in-law.
Luckily her code was restored. If she could use it successfully, she could start a company anytime, anywhere.
She was confident about the code. Her biggest problem was that she only had a hundred thousand in startup funds — and she’d just spent ten thousand on clothes and a laptop, leaving ninety thousand.
Ninety thousand still had to cover chips and components; Qi Yunwei felt the pinch.
If only someone would invest.
[Master, why not ask Yan for investment? Yan is super rich.]
[Xiaoman, you’re overestimating my current status.]
A shameless live-in daughter-in-law trying to sponge off her lover — ridiculous.
[Sleeping in the same bed with her is punishment enough; don’t take advantage of her softness. If we rely on her, how are we different from the body we borrowed? Don’t worry — we’ll earn our own money. I have other ways to get funds.]
