I Heard I’m a Scummy Alpha? [Transmigration] - Chapter 7
It was finally the day to register. Qi Jiusi personally walked Qi Yunwei to the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau.
It wasn’t a holiday and they had come early, so there were only two or three couples in line at the door.
Qi Yunwei turned to Qi Jiusi. “Auntie, thanks for bringing me. You can go ahead — you don’t need to wait.”
Qi Jiusi smiled. “I won’t be a third wheel. I’ll head off now.”
Watching Qi Jiusi’s car drive away, Qi Yunwei let out a sigh. Qi Jiusi was far too good to her — she’d even helped drug Yan Zui that time. Qi Jiusi’s kindness had no limits, and Qi Yunwei found herself uneasy about being on the receiving end of so much goodwill.
She turned and scanned for Yan Zui but didn’t see her, so she pulled out her phone and sent a WeChat message.
Qi Yunwei: Where are you? [cute tilted-head sticker]
She’d taught herself how to use stickers.
Yan Zui: By the curb, in the car.
Qi Yunwei looked up and saw a low-key sedan parked by the curb. The driver’s door was pushed open from the inside and Yan Zui stepped out.
“Good morning,” Qi Yunwei said with a smile as she walked over. “We’re about to get the certificate. Did you sleep well last night? Are you nervous?”
Yan Zui couldn’t understand Qi Yunwei’s chutzpah — she not only had the nerve to ask Yan Zui for help, she was breezily chatting like nothing had happened.
Yan Zui hadn’t forgotten about being drugged; she ignored Qi Yunwei and walked past her to the end of the line.
Undeterred, Qi Yunwei followed and planted herself beside her, continuing the conversation. “I was so nervous I hardly slept. Look at these dark circles under my eyes.”
She blinked theatrically at Yan Zui.
Yan Zui glanced impatiently and met Yunwei’s stark, contrasting eyes. She paused slightly; her lashes drooped. “Yeah, they are pretty dark.”
She thought to herself, such bright, striking eyes are rare — and somehow they’d ended up on Qi Yunwei.
Once the bureau opened, it didn’t take long for their turn.
They went through the formalities — photos, fees — and came out as legally recognized partners holding their marriage certificate.
Holding the certificate, Qi Yunwei said, “Yan Zui, have you had breakfast? Let me buy you breakfast.”
Yan Zui said, “I’m going to the office.”
“All right then, I’ll head home. We’ll have plenty of chances later — I’ll treat you next time.” Work was important; she didn’t want to keep Yan Zui from it.
Qi Yunwei planned to take the bus back to the Qi family home; the bus stop was right on the same side of the road. She waited in place.
Yan Zui walked a few steps toward her car, then stopped, turned, and looked at Qi Yunwei with a faint frown.
Qi Yunwei thought she had something to say and walked over. “What’s up?”
“Nothing.” Yan Zui seemed to have lost the impulse to talk and turned away.
Qi Yunwei didn’t know what Yan Zui was struggling with. She watched the car pull away until it disappeared, then went to the bus stop to head back to the Qi household.
When Yan Zui reached the company, her phone buzzed twice just as she stepped into the office.
She sat in her chair and opened the message — a 30-second voice note from her friend Huang Momo.
Huang Momo (voice): Yan Zui, how did it go? Did you register? Has that Qi Yunwei said anything unreliable to you again? A useless Alpha is rare — what are the odds you’d meet one? That’s fate. You’ve got to get a handle on her, okay?
Make her obey you — you’d be a legend among Omegas!
Yan Zui: ‘…’
Huang Momo (voice): Don’t be shy. You said Qi Yunwei apologized twice, right? Catch her while she still has a conscience. Control her, use her — she can help with the family and act as a marking tool during heat periods. Super
convenient.
Admittedly, Huang Momo had a point. Yan Zui hadn’t deliberately delayed today; she’d come early and waited outside the bureau.
Since Yan Zui’s differentiation, her parents had been pressuring her to marry and have children — to give them grandchildren they could raise into the people they wanted. Because Yan Zui resisted, her parents’ dissatisfaction had been building for years; they’d bring up marriage at any time, in any place, disrupting her life and work.
The matchmaking banquet a few days before had been arranged by Yan Zhao and He Ran, who’d handpicked a batch of high-quality Alphas. Somehow Qi Yunwei had slipped in, drugged Yan Zui, forcibly triggered her heat, and marked her.
The memory chilled Yan Zui’s face.
Yan Zui (text): We registered. She tried to take me to breakfast.
Huang Momo: Did you go? [starry-eyed sticker]
Yan Zui: No.
Huang Momo: Exactly — keep her wanting! Make her fall for you and she’ll be helpless!
Yan Zui: You’re overthinking. I just don’t want to see her.
Huang Momo: Same result, different road. Honestly, Yan Zui, you have a knack for baiting people. If you let me teach you, you’d have Alphas falling over themselves for you — imagine it!
Yan Zui: I’m at work. Keep dreaming.
At noon she took the elevator down to the company cafeteria. The doors opened and, unsurprisingly, Yan Zhao was inside.
She hesitated, then stepped in. “Dad.”
This elevator was reserved for Yan Zhao and her, and of course she ran into him when she least wanted to.
“Mm.” He responded coolly. “Registered?”
Yan Zui, back to him, said: “Yes.”
“The downtown apartment has been cleaned. Tell Qi Yunwei to come for dinner tonight and you two can move in.” Yan Zhao’s tone was even.
Yan Zui’s eyes darkened slightly. “I’ll tell her.”
After lunch in the private dining room, Yan Zui made up her mind.
Although she didn’t like the idea of living with Qi Yunwei, an apartment was still preferable to being under Yan Zhao and He Ran’s constant pressure at home about having children.
Back at the office she messaged Qi Yunwei with Yan Zhao’s instructions.
Yan Zui: Pack your things. Come to our house for dinner tonight.
At that moment Qi Yunwei was lying on her bed, bored. She saw Yan Zui’s message and immediately sat bolt upright and typed back.
Qi Yunwei: I’ll pack right away!
Finally, she could leave the Qi household!
Yunwei immediately thought of another problem.
Qi Yunwei: If we live at your place, do we have to share a room? I’m so thin now — sleeping on the floor my bones get sore.
Yan Zui frowned at that message; was Qi Yunwei trying to renege?
Then another message popped up.
Qi Yunwei: Can I sneak a mattress in? [careful sticker]
