I Heard You Liked Me First

When Gu Nan received the call, the voice on the other end was calm and clear a woman’s voice.

Your father has passed away. He left you company shares and a large inheritance. Where are you now? I’ll come pick you up.

Gu Nan recognized that voice. It was the same woman who had quietly arranged everything for her the day she ran away all those years ago.

She didn’t let the woman come for her. Instead, she returned to the place that had destroyed her childhood.

As the car door opened, the sound of rain filled the air. A black umbrella appeared before her, shielding her from the downpour. Gu Nan looked up and met a pair of eyes that were cool yet impossibly gentle.

Ten years had passed, and she hadn’t changed at all.

“Welcome back.”

Her voice was wrapped in the rhythm of the falling rain, cracking open the wall that had long sealed Gu Nan’s heart.

Much later, Gu Nan would look at her and say softly.

“I heard… you were the one who fell for me first.”
