I Hoard Supplies and Raise a Child in the Wasteland World by Drawing Cards (GL) - Chapter 12
“You brought this upon yourselves,” Lin Ran said, lightly tapping the wall with the hilt of her sword. The zombies at the hallway entrance immediately noticed the sound. However, because the smell of zombie bl00d on Lin Ran was so strong, the zombies were a little hesitant about whether to attack her or not.
Seeing that the six zombies weren’t coming after her, Lin Ran tapped the wall again. This time, the six zombies were convinced that there was a noise and rushed toward Lin Ran, competing to get there first.
But the fire escape was narrow, and the more they crowded together, the more it benefited Lin Ran. She kicked the first zombie that rushed at her. The zombies behind it also lost their footing, and the two at the back almost fell over.
Lin Ran knew that this kind of attack wouldn’t hurt the zombies, but it could at least slow them down. At that moment, Lin Ran aimed a fierce slash at the head of the zombie in front of her. The male zombie’s head was immediately cut off by the Tang Dao. Of the five zombies behind it, two were tripped by the male zombie’s body, and the other three continued to rush at Lin Ran.
Lin Ran was prepared. She had already moved to the second-floor stairwell and was waiting. She threw a ceramic jar, which was used for pickling vegetables, at the zombies. The one in front was hit squarely by the jar and fell backward, taking the two zombies behind it with him.
Lin Ran was waiting for this moment. She stepped on the zombie on her left and delivered a slash to its head. The zombie in the middle was about to get up. Lin Ran pulled out her sword and, with a quick turn of the blade, slashed the middle zombie as well. Her swinging motion was extremely fast. She also kicked the middle zombie in the chest and then swung the Tang Dao horizontally, slashing at the zombie on her left.
After dealing with the zombie on the left, the zombie on her right had already gotten back on its feet and was lunging at Lin Ran. Lin Ran kneed the female zombie in the abdomen and held the long blade horizontally at the zombie’s neck. With a powerful slash, foul-smelling bl00d splattered all over Lin Ran’s face. She kicked the zombie hard, sending it tumbling down the stairs, taking the middle zombie, which had just gotten up, with it.
The middle zombie looked to be in its sixties or seventies. Its hair was white, and when Lin Ran delivered the first slash, she could feel that its bones were brittle. The zombie on the right was probably a young woman, seemingly less than 1.6 meters tall.
Lin Ran took advantage of them trying to get up and quickly moved in, killing the old zombie with one slash. Then, with a turn of the blade, she killed the young female zombie with hardly a pause.
The two male zombies who had fallen first had also gotten back up. But because the smell on Lin Ran was so strong, they judged her to be 60% like them based on their senses, so they didn’t actively lunge at her.
At this point, not only were Lin Ran’s clothes covered in bl00d, but her face, hands, and the Tang Dao were all soaked in zombie bl00d. If she hadn’t had a strong will, Lin Ran would have thrown up by now. It was no exaggeration to say that in her current state, she could scare a person to death.
But just because the zombies weren’t attacking Lin Ran didn’t mean Lin Ran wasn’t attacking the zombies. In her eyes, these monsters were all cores. Thinking this, Lin Ran put away her Tang Dao and took out the compound crossbow from her back. She wanted to see if it was necessary to behead them or if a heavy blow to the head with a blunt object would also work.
She immediately loaded a bolt and shot it at the zombie that was lunging at her first. The compound crossbow had a strong penetrating ability, and the distance was only three or four meters, so Lin Ran’s shot was very accurate. The bolt went directly into the zombie’s forehead, and the zombie fell to the ground, motionless.
Lin Ran didn’t hesitate and loaded the next bolt, shooting it at the zombie’s head. This bolt went directly through the zombie’s temple. With that, all six zombies who had been blocking the entrance were taken care of by Lin Ran.
Lin Ran looked at the compound crossbow in her hand. It was effective, but loading the bolts took time. This was fine when there were only a few zombies, but it would be too slow if there were a lot. The best solution was to get a gun.
“Congratulations, darling. You have successfully killed six more zombies. You have now collected a total of 13 Grade 1 zombie cores. Keep up the good work,” the system’s mechanical voice sounded again.
There was still some time until 4 p.m., so Lin Ran didn’t plan on risking going to a crowded area. From the looks of it, she could probably collect most of the cores she needed just by killing zombies in the complex.
However, it was physically exhausting. Lin Ran walked out of the building. Because the zombie bl00d on her face and body masked the scent of a living person, she ran into two zombies right away. The two zombies were wearing property management uniforms and were probably the staff responsible for watering the trees and grass in the complex.
The two zombies scanned Lin Ran and, finding that she didn’t smell like a human, turned to walk away.
The corners of Lin Ran’s lips curled up. The zombies were ignoring her? That didn’t mean she was going to let them go.
Thinking this, Lin Ran rushed at the two male zombies. She swung her Tang Dao at the crew-cut male zombie on her left. Then, Lin Ran pushed her right leg onto the zombie’s back, forcing him to the ground. At the same time, she pulled the Tang Dao out of the male zombie’s spine.
The other zombie was just staring at Lin Ran in a daze. He was already a bit slow-looking, with a pair of black-rimmed glasses on his rotting face. He just stood there frozen, as if he didn’t understand why Lin Ran was fighting with the other zombie when they were both zombies.
Lin Ran saw that he wasn’t attacking her, so she didn’t move. She quickly walked over to the crew-cut zombie, stepped on his back, and neatly severed his spine with a single chop. Lin Ran was once again splattered with foul-smelling bl00d, some of which even dripped onto her face.
Just as Lin Ran was fighting, someone upstairs heard the commotion, and many people were peeking out of their windows.
Zhang Ming from the 20th floor was one of them. He was a rich second-generation kid, and the Guanghua complex was just one of his many homes. He had been staying here with his girlfriend these past few days and never imagined that the entire city of Jiangbei would turn into this.
He was standing by the window, his hand shaking as he pointed downstairs. “Wait, aren’t they all zombies? Why are they fighting each other?”
Xu Xiaoying was already crying in fear. She had just seen the zombie with the sword kill the other two zombies, with bl00d splattering everywhere.
“Zhang Ming, what do we do? Can you reach your dad on the phone? Can you get the bodyguards to come protect us? I’m so scared, I’m so scared. The whole world has gone crazy. Everyone’s crazy,” Xu Xiaoying said, crying and shaking Zhang Ming’s arm.
“I know, I’ve already called several times, but no one is answering. What do you think I want? What the hell are these monsters? Why isn’t the police doing anything about it? They should get rid of all these horrible things,” Zhang Ming said furiously.
He hugged Xu Xiaoying tightly and shivered. “Don’t worry. This building should be safe. As long as we don’t go out, those zombies won’t come looking for us. We’re on the 20th floor. The people on the lower floors will die first. Don’t be scared, don’t be scared.”
Meanwhile, Lin Ran, who others thought was a zombie, had bl00d running down her face, making her look like a demon that had climbed out of hell. She smiled at the dazed zombie with glasses and rushed at him, holding her long blade with both hands. With another clean slash, Lin Ran pressed her leg against the zombie’s chest, pulled out the Tang Dao, and then plunged it back into the zombie’s spine. As foul-smelling bl00d splattered out, the two zombies lay still on the ground, lifeless.
Lin Ran wanted to wipe the foul-smelling bl00d from her face, but she decided against it when she saw her hands were also covered in bl00d.
She thought about going to the convenience store downstairs. The store must have a bathroom, and after killing the zombies, she could go there to clean up the foul bloodstains on her body.
Thinking this, Lin Ran started wandering around the complex with the foul bl00d still on her. Aside from the smell that made her want to vomit, the zombies’ interest in her was almost nonexistent. They had started to see the foul-smelling Lin Ran as one of their own.
In this way, Lin Ran, with the advantage of being covered in zombie bl00d, wandered around the complex, killing zombies. By the time she reached the small supermarket, she had successfully killed 45 zombies. But the price was that the smell on Lin Ran was so strong that she felt she would throw up if she didn’t wash up soon.
She managed to get a tissue and wipe her face before going into the small supermarket.
However, Lin Ran wasn’t so lucky. Inside the supermarket, she immediately spotted five zombies. But for the same reason, the five zombies were clearly not interested in Lin Ran.
The five zombies were all different, but the one thing they had in common was their foul, rotting smell.
Lin Ran sighed and, raising her Tang Dao, rushed to the nearest shelf, where a short male zombie was wandering. Hearing the commotion behind him, the male zombie got excited. But when he moved toward Lin Ran, he quickly smelled the foul stench on her, which was even stronger than his own. The male zombie immediately lost interest in Lin Ran.
